2 The Techiya Program at Behavioral Health of the Palm Beaches is designed to meet the specific needs of members of the Jewish Community who elect to be included. The program, which is supervised by an Orthodox Rabbi, offers clients the opportunity to consult with a rabbi who will serve as the client s spiritual counselor as well as meet with other rabbis from the community of all denominations, classes on Jewish spirituality and special Shabbat and Holiday observances. Participation in the Techiya Program is optional for all clients in the treatment community. A second aspect of the Techiya Program is designed to meet the special requirements of those individuals who are religiously observant. Provisions included in the program are Glatt Kosher meals, the observance of Shabbat and Yom Tov, and the development of a spiritually based recovery program firmly committed to Torah and Mitzvot. During the initial phase of the program, the client will be housed at the intake center and will be provided with pre-prepared Glatt Kosher meals. Upon moving into the treatment phase of the program, the client will be housed in apartments that have been designated to be Kosher and Shabbat ready. A religious/spiritual counselor will be assigned to each participant in the program, who will work with the client so that the highest standards of need may be addressed.

3 Phases of Treatment BHOP has created a program providing medically supervised detoxification, rehabilitation, and extended care services in a time frame that meets individual needs. The phases are broken down as follows: Detox/Stabilization/Assessment/Education Medically certified detoxification professionals prescribe a variety of medications depending upon the drug(s) a patient is withdrawing from and on the severity of withdrawal. Patients are going through thorough assessment processes during this phase of treatment. Assessments include: Intake, Nursing, History and Physical, Psychiatric, Psycho-social (Addiction Severity Index), and battery of Psychological measurements. A complete Treatment Plan is based on all of these assessments. Patients are also exposed to education regarding addiction, mental health, and medications during this phase of the treatment process. Most patients complete this phase in approximately seven days. Treatment Phase It is during this phase of treatment that the treatment plan is worked on through group and individual therapy. Patients are assigned to Services based on need. The length of stay in this phase can be up to sixty days. Available programs/services that may be included, based on individual needs, will be recommended during this phase. Each adult client participates in a full curriculum of therapeutic counseling, seminars, lectures and small groups. 4 A New Lifestyle Residences Clients reside in apartment-style residences within the BHOP complex. It has been previously stated that our patients are treated with dignity and respect. Patients coming to us for treatment often arrive with their self-esteem shattered. We have created residences that our patients can be proud to reside in and take pride in maintaining. The initial phase of treatment is located in a tropical setting in Lake Worth, Florida. The Treatment Phase occurs in Lake Park, Florida. Men reside in apartments located on the Intracoastal Waterway. Women reside in our residence across from the beach on Singer Island. Men and women both spend the treatment day at our professional setting in Lake Park. Facilities are supervised 24 hours a day by a full-time staff. Clients activities, include wake-up, meals, attendance at groups, lectures and twelve-step recovery meetings. Completion of chores, curfew hours and return from off-site trips are monitored on a 24-hour basis. The shared community experience is an important part of treatment and contributes to patients learning the basics of living a responsible lifestyle. Residences receive a food allowance, and under supervision, select and prepare their own meals. Residents are also involved as a group with the planning of some of their recreational activities. Family Participation Behavioral Health of the Palm Beaches realizes the importance of a family s involvement in the treatment process. The primary therapist keeps in touch with each patient s family to update them of progress or concerns. Conference calls frequently occur involving the patient, therapist, and family members. We believe that addiction is a family disease, which is why we offer Family Week. It is a program dedicated to guiding, assisting and supporting a family member through the journey of recovery. The patient s family is requested to attend the week long program at the facility and benefit from the supervised educational and therapeutic process we have to offer. Through lectures and groups a participant will have the opportunity to learn about such topics as the biological features of the disease and the different roles each member plays in the addiction and road to recovery. All patients are strongly encouraged to have the very important people in their lives attend Family Week.

5 Jewish Track at Behavioral Health of the Palm Beaches Behavioral Health of the Palm Beaches (BHOP), is a residential substance abuse treatment program located in Palm Beach County, Florida. The program is based upon the principles of twelve-step recovery. Our mission is to meet the holistic needs of each individual and to treat each person with dignity and respect. In order to do so we must meet each person s spiritual needs as well. With that in mind we offer the Techiya program which is carefully supervised by an Orthodox rabbi. Techiya, the Hebrew word for resurrection or rebirth, is symbolic of the addiction recovery process. In Jewish tradition, certain chronic physical and societal situations are considered forms of death. Those who have lived a life of addiction and have found sustained recovery often consider themselves resurrected from death. The Techiya Program extends the hope of recovery to all Jews suffering from the devastating disease of alcoholism and addiction.

6 Techiya Aftercare We continue to care about our patients after they leave treatment by providing follow-up services. Minimally, patients are contacted by us quarterly after they complete treatment. More intensive follow-up services are available. Local or relocating patients are encouraged to attend aftercare groups at Behavioral Health of the Palm Beaches. Out-of-town patients are referred back to the referring agency, EAP or other professional resource. Behavioral Health provides extended therapeutic living in South Florida for patients who are vulnerable to relapse due to toxic living and social environments.
