Introduction The following guide will provide instructions on how to map a network drive on your laptop/desktop computer. Prerequisites You will need to know your ADS username (and password if you re connecting on a non ECU computer). If you re connecting off-campus you will need to be connected to the ECU VPN. Instructions on how to download and connect can be found on the ECU web-page. You will need to know the location of the network drive you wish to map. i.e. \\staffshare\itssshared\itss Please Note: If you re off-campus you will need to enter the full domain name of the network drive. i.e. \\staffshare.ads.ecu.edu.au\itssshared\itss Ensure you have permissions to access network drive. If you don t have permission, please contact your line manager to approval. To check which Windows operating system you re running? Check for operating system information in Windows 7 Vista Click the Start button, type winver in the search box, and then press Enter. Check for operating system information in Windows XP Click the Start button, Click Run, type winver, and then press Enter. Instructions Microsoft Windows XP Microsoft Windows Vista Microsoft Windows 7 Mac OS X

Windows XP 1. Click on Start, and then My Computer. 2. Click on Tools, and then Map Network Drive. 3. Select/Enter the following, and then click Finish. Select the Drive: letter you would like your network drive mapped too. Enter the location of the network drive. Example: \\staffshare\itssshared\itss Tick Reconnect at login. TIP: Drive letter selection. While the drive letter you choose does not make any difference to the process, most Faculties and Centres have agreed on particular letters for their shared drives to simplify communication. As you are replacing an old drive mapping, the letter your area uses will probably already have the old file path listed against it, as in the example on the right. TIP: Mapping your network drive. If the file path is particularly long, you may want to type in the first section and then click on the Browse button to navigate to the subfolder. Be sure to use the correct slash key. The \ key is usually located above the Enter key. TIP: Working off-campus. If you re working off-campus, you will need to include.ads.ecu.edu.au when mapping the network drive. i.e. \\staffshare.ads.ecu.edu.au\itssshared
