The Morris & Essex Kennel Club Art Show CALL FOR ENTRIES October 1, 2015 The Morris & Essex Kennel Club Art Show is a Juried Fine Arts Competition Celebrating the Purebred Dog and the Spirit of the Morris & Essex Kennel Club Dog Show About the Show: Offering a cash prize of $1,000 for Best in Show Every five years, the Morris & Essex Kennel Club brings back the legacy of Geraldine Rockefeller Dodge's grand and elegant dog show held from 1927 through 1957. This year, the show is held on October 1, 2015, in Colonial Park, Somerset, NJ. The Morris & Essex Kennel Club Art Show invites artists whose works depict purebred dogs to exhibit their work at this exciting show. Art Show proceeds benefit a number of canine charities. Each award winner will receive a Morris & Essex rosette and single invitation to the exclusive Morris & Essex Kennel Club Judges Dinner, held September 30, 2015. One Best in Show winner will be selected and presented at the Judges Dinner with a $1,000 prize. All winning artworks will be displayed at both the Judges Dinner and in a tented place of honor on the outdoor show grounds on October 1, 2015.
All entries will also be displayed in a virtual gallery on the Morris & Essex Kennel Club website, www.morrisandessexkennelclub.com, following the October 1, 2015, show through December 1, 2015. All artwork appearing at the Morris & Essex Kennel Club Judges Dinner and Dog Show, as well as on the Morris & Essex Kennel Club website, will be available for sale with a 30% commission donated to Morris & Essex Kennel Club. Juror: Mr. William Secord of the William Secord Gallery, NYC William Secord is the world authority on nineteenth-century dog painting. He is the first author to explore the representation of the dog from its origins to the remarkable paintings of the eighteenth /nineteenth century and up to modern times. Secord was the founding director of The Dog Museum of America and is the author of four books on nineteenth century dog painting, most recently "Dog Painting, a History of the Dog in Art." His latest book is entitled The American Dog at Home: The Dog Portraits of Christine Merrill. Eligibility: All artwork must depict a purebred dog or dogs and the spirit of the Morris & Essex Kennel Club Dog Show. Artists must be 18 years of age or older. All works must be original, completed within the past two years (2013-2015), and must have been executed solely by the person in whose name they have been submitted. HOW TO ENTER Entries: Digital Photo Entries Only 1. Entries must be high-resolution.jpeg format digital photos with a minimum file size of 1 MB 2. Each artist may enter up to 3 entries. CD must be accompanied by completed entry and full payment 7. Submissions made via email.jpeg will not be considered until entry form and payment are received 8. Any accepted artwork differing greatly from the entry photo will not be exhibited 9. Entry CDs become the property of the Morris & Essex Kennel Club and will not be returned 10. Preliminary judging is done from the digital images on the CDs and.jpegs Artwork may be in any medium 2D and 3D including photography however, 2D works may not exceed 24 X 30 and 3D may not exceed 10 X 20 and/or 30 Pounds. A Non-Refundable Entry Fee of $40.00 (in US Funds) per artist for up to 3 entries must accompany the entry form. The entry form must indicate, clearly, the referenced artwork. Any questions, please call (609) 303-0282 or email MorrisEssexArtShow@gmail.com Specifications for all Accepted Works: A total of 7 works will be selected for exhibition at the Morris & Essex Kennel Club Dog Show Judges Dinner and Dog Show One work will be selected from each of the dog show Groups: Sporting, Terrier, Herding, Non-Sporting, Toy, Working, and Hound. From these 7 pieces, one will be selected for Best in Show and awarded a $1,000 cash prize. All entered artwork must be priced and for sale. All 2D works must be framed, matted, and suitable for display on easels. We recommend that Plexiglas be used on shipped works that require glazing. All shipped artwork must have an identification card on the upper right hand corner on the rear of the piece. Please ship via UPS or FED EX with paid return delivery paperwork and postage included in shipment packaging. No COD s will be accepted. Please provide packing instructions if necessary. Do not include foam peanuts in packing. Works shipped by carrier must be adequately packed in crates or packages suitable for return. Any artwork not conforming to the accepted images, not fulfilling the above requirements, or not being adequately presented may be eliminated from the show. Unsold winning artwork will be returned within 2 weeks following the dog show with pre-paid postage and materials. Publicity: Signature on the entry form grants the Morris & Essex Kennel Club the right to photograph and display online or in print exhibited works for publicity, educational, and publications purposes. All winning artwork will appear in the Morris & Essex Kennel Club Dog Show catalogue distributed at the dog show on October 1, 2015.
