TEACHING MEANS THE WORLD TO ME The Knowledge Society Internationalisation is changing the educational landscape, and the number of students crossing borders to get the best available education continues to rise. National schools and education systems are met with equivalent demands for quality and relevance, and internationalisation is therefore also taking place in more traditional, national schools. International Schools and Teachers Many changes have taken place since the first modern international schools opened in the early 1920s. Most noticeably, the number of international schools has been growing rapidly, and in 2010 that number had reached more than 5,500 schools. This has created a high demand for teachers for international schools and for national schools offering international programmes and subjects. If you are interested in an international career and in the world of international education, you can kick-start your career by obtaining a Bachelor Degree in International Teacher Education ITEPS (International Teacher Education for Primary Schools). The four-year programme is the only tailor-made international teacher education in the world. It gives you the unique opportunity to study in Denmark, Holland and Norway, since three different higher education institutions from these countries have cooperated for more than six years to develop this world-class teaching opportunity. The partners are University College Zealand (Denmark), Stenden University (Holland) and HBV University (Norway). 2 International Teacher Education International Teacher Education 3

WHAT THEY SAY Anthony - French student I worked for many years within the hotel business, and wanted to change career and become a teacher. So I found the degree here in Vordingborg to become a teacher at international schools. And I have no regrets about it. The subjects are really interesting, the teachers are competent, our fellow students come from around the world, so I am learning a lot from their experiences. At the end of my degree, I will have a diploma that will give me an opportunity to teach around the world. A Bright Future with Great Opportunities Teaching in an international school entails working with children of different nationalities and often different cultural backgrounds. The programme prepares you to recognize the differences and make use of them in your job as a teacher. With an International Teacher Education background, you will not only be attractive as a teacher in international schools; you will also be qualified to teach in your respective national context. You will also be able to further educate yourself on diploma or master level. Owen - Scottish student I love ITEPS, because it allows me to do two things I love; I get to travel and teach! This course has given me the opportunity to develop both professionally and personally, especially considering that I have grown up in an international environment and understand the additional challenges of dealing with multiculturalism that most of the children at international schools face. Laura - German student I transferred from another university college in Denmark this summer, because I really liked the idea that the whole International Teacher Education Programme is in English. The classes are quite small, and you have a close relationship with your teachers. Furthermore, the activities during the lessons are very social, so you work in groups a lot of times. Everyone at University College Zealand is very helpful and open-minded. This international programme gives you a great opportunity to be able to teach in the whole wide world, and I am looking forward to work at an international school in the future.
