2 Our mission Developing professionals and professions Zuyd University of Applied Sciences develops and transfers highquality and practically oriented knowledge. Our main goal is to prepare students for their future professional careers. We highly value the principle of lifelong learning and the personal development of professionals in the Meuse-Rhine Euregion. We believe that we can contribute to the full development of every individual s unique talents. In our working methods we link education and research to the needs and developments in our local environment. We therefore focus on themes that our region excels in, such as Technology in Care, New Materials and New Energy, Chemistry and European Artistic Skills and pursue excellence in these fields. Our Faculties and Centres of Expertise connect education, research and lifelong learning. After only two and a half months here I have met people from all over the world and I am really enjoying myself. We fully believe in the benefits of partnership, international liaisons and in innovation through research. Facts and Figures Zuyd has over 15,000 students and more than 1,700 employees. Nearly 2,000 of our students come from abroad. Studying at Zuyd means being part of an international learning community. Our students, lecturers and staff come from 55 different countries. Zuyd has campuses in three cities: Maastricht, Heerlen, and Sittard-Geleen. Zuyd is located at the centre of Europe, close to Belgium, France, Germany and Luxembourg. Zuyd is one of the ten largest universities of applied sciences in the Netherlands and has been awarded top positions in national reviews for many years now. Each faculty of Zuyd comprises three pillars of activity: Zuyd University of Applied Sciences Zuyd offers a wide range of study programmes for degree-seeking students as well as opportunities for international exchange students. Our study programmes closely match our students needs and interests and the requirements and expectations of the regional, national and international job markets. Zuyd Research Zuyd Research stimulates the innovation of knowledge and expertise in the Meuse-Rhine Euregion and is actively involved in applied research that is relevant to our region. Our research is primarily aimed at the development and transfer of prac tically based knowledge. Most activities are carried out for authorities, businesses and institutions in our region. Zuyd Training Besides research and full-time education, Zuyd offers specific training programmes for professionals who would like to develop their professional careers. In addition to this, we provide tailor-made services for organisations. Through research and in close cooperation with companies and institutions, Zuyd Training contributes to the lifelong learning process in our region.

3 Strong international ambition Inspired by the strategic location in the heart of Europe, we train our students for international careers and actively support and facilitate international work placements and study abroad programmes. Our international courses, foreign language training and intercultural awareness prepare students for the globalising job market. Many of our research activities are carried out in cooperation with international partners. Study programmes Nearly 2,000 of our students come from abroad. Most of them follow courses that are taught in English, which are therefore suitable for international students. See those highlighted in the list on the next page. However, most of our study programmes are taught in Dutch. Exchange programmes Zuyd offers interesting exchange opportunities for international students and teaching or research staff. We closely cooperate with many international partners through the Erasmus programme of the EU and the international Magellan Exchange. We also have bilateral agreements of cooperation with partner universities all over the world. The European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) guarantees a smooth academic recognition and transfer of credits. Young Professionals Overseas Young Professionals Overseas (YPO) is a unique, multidisciplinary programme that facilitates work placements and graduation projects in India, South Africa and Zambia. The main focus of YPO is to encourage students to broaden their perspectives abroad. Summer schools In the months of July and August we offer a joint summer school with Maastricht University and the Maastricht School of Management, covering a wide range of courses. Practical matters Accommodation In close cooperation with regional housing corporations and Maastricht University, rooms and studios can be booked online at www. maastrichthousing.com. Zuyd also offers furnished short-stay accommodation for international exchange students and international teaching or research staff. Application and admission International students are subject to a number of admission requirements. These include a valid and recognised diploma, specific language skills - in Dutch or English - and possibly additional requirements related to immigration issues, e.g. a visa and/or residence permit. Admission requirements may vary per study programme. For full information, please consult our website at international.zuyd.nl Tuition fees Generally speaking, students from member states of the European Union who live in our region are charged the same tuition fees as Dutch students. Non-EU citizens will be charged a higher amount. Up to date information about tuition fees and payment plans can be found on our website at international.zuyd.nl. Zuyd Excellence Scholarships A limited number of scholarships is available for talented and highly motivated international students. The Zuyd International Office can provide further details on these scholarships as well as application forms.

We offer our students the best of both worlds. On the one hand we have all the advantages of a large institution: a wide range of courses, excellent facilities and modern buildings. On the other hand we also feature relatively small faculty communities in three cities. The interactive learning environments for group work guarantee a personal approach. Our students and staff are individuals with names, faces, personal histories and characters. The Maastricht Region is situated at the centre of the international Meuse-Rhine Euregion, one of the most dynamic regions in Europe. More than 3.9 million inhabitants live in this multicultural region. Although the region is densely populated, the area is also known for its beautiful natural surroundings and hilly landscape. The Treaty on the European Union was signed here in More than 10% of its residents are students, many of whom come from abroad. Its international ambience is very much in line with the character and location of Maastricht in the heart of the Meuse-Rhine Euregion. Heerlen The up and coming city of Heerlen has invested in new business parks, an excellent infrastructure and a wide variety of cultural activities. This has attracted a large number of high-tech companies to the area and has jumpstarted many interesting business partnerships. An example is the Avantis European Science and Business Park, the first cross-border German-Dutch business park. Sittard-Geleen Sittard-Geleen is a dynamic and entrepreneurial city with an attractive historic town centre. It has developed into a regional centre for education, sport and business. It is also home to the globally renowned chemical innovations community on the Chemelot Campus (e.g. DSM, Sabic and Lanxess). ¹ Language of instruction is English
