1 Curriculum 1 (6) GENERAL INFORMATION DEGREE PROGRAMME PERIOD OF EXECUTION SCOPE DESCRIPTION LANGUAGE OF STUDY CODE DEGREE Degree Programme in Logistics Engineering 240 ECTS The Degree Programme in Logistics Engineering is a four-year programme fully conducted in English. Students come both from Finland and from abroad. During the studies, students acquire professional skills in the fields of Logistics as well as skills from the selected fields of engineering, natural sciences, languages and communication. After graduation, students can work as experts or managers, for example, in the areas of purchasing, transportation, materials management and information logistics. English TEL14S1 Bachelor of Engineering DEGREE LEVEL National Qualifications Framework level 6 THE TARGET GROUP AND THE ADMISSION CRITERIA STUDIES Eligibility is obtained by matriculating from upper secondary school, or gaining a vocational qualification, the international baccalaureate, a vocational college diploma or foreign degree/gualification, which gives eligibility for higher education in the awarding country. The entrance examination for the Degree Programme in Logistics Engineering is arranged in Finland and in several countries abroad. The entrance examinations in countries outside Finland are organised in cooperation with the Finnish Network for International Programmes (FINNIPS). Non-EU/EAA citizens must provide an English language proficiency certificate. KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES The aim of the programme is to educate future engineers to develop and manage the logistics operations of organisations. Students also acquire valuable background for future professional development. The key learning outcomes of the programme are based on the common learning outcomes of all graduates at JAMK University of Applied Sciences and the learning outcomes of the logistics engineering programme. Common learning outcomes are described in the document Principles of the Curriculum. The key learning outcomes of the Logistics Engineering programme are: Natural sciences and engineering skills 1 Natural sciences skills The student understands and can use mathematics and mathematical tools to solve professional problems. The student is able to use mathematics and physics to describe and solve phenomena in a technical environment. The student knows important theories in physics and chemistry from a logistics point of view.

The student understands different production technologies and the use of machines. The student understands the basic principles of electrical and automation sciences. Logistics professional skills 1 Purchasing and warehousing skills The student is able to engineer and manage purchasing processes and functions. The student is able to engineer and manage materials management and warehousing processes and systems. The student knows and is capable of working according to the requirements of international law and contracts 2 Transportation skills The student understand the principles and use of different transportation modes. The student is capable of working with and managing the economics of transportation and understands the importance of sustainability. The student knows and is capable of working according to the requirements of international law and contracts. 3 Production logistics The student understands the strategic position of production. The student understands the principles of different production systems. The student is capable of managing production processes and quality. 4 Information logistics The student understands the role of information systems in logistics management. The student is capable of utilising identification- and positioning technologies in logistics management. 5 Life cycle support The student understands the meaning of life cycle support. The student is capable of managing maintenance operations and spare-part logistics. Logistics management skills PROFILE 1 Logistics management skills The student understands the economical and functional principles of successful business. The student understands the meaning of networks and the principles of network management. The student is able to work as a manager and expert in international multicultural organisations. The student understands the meaning of sustainability in logistics. The programme supports JAMK s aim of offering entrepreneurial skills and knowledge for students. The programme offers students the principle skills and knowledge of entrepreneurship in general and also possibilities for entrepreneurship as a future career. The student has the chance to deeper his/her studies in the field of entrepreneurship as shown in JAMK s Principles of the curriculum

3 Curriculum 3 (6) The programme is closely connected to business life. The development work of the programme is done continuously in cooperation with representatives of the business community. The advisory board of the programme includes representatives from local and global industrial companies, logistics service providers and authorities. COURSE STRUCTURE The programme is international in a natural way. The whole programme is conducted in English. Students are from all over the world. This gives the programme its own unique multicultural atmosphere. The programme also includes visiting lectures from international specialists in the field of logistics. COURSE CONTENT AND PERFORMANCE Studies include basic and professional studies, elective studies, practical training and the final thesis. Courses are described in detail in the ASIO student management system. The course must be completed in two semesters from its start. Exceptions to this are the thesis and practice as well as the extensive courses completed over a number of semesters. If a course is not completed, the student must repeat it. LEARNING ASSESSMENT In the first contact lesson of a course, the learning outcomes and the content of the course, the different procedures and evaluation criteria are reviewed; also, the possible examination date is agreed upon (immediate performance time) and the course completion date is announced, after which attempts to complete are no longer accepted. Students may attempt to complete a course a total of three times: during the immediate performance time of the course or at two specially determined re-examination times. Learning outcomes are assessed in relation to the learning objectives of the course. Assessment decisions are based on the assessment criteria provided in the course descriptions. Courses are assessed on the assessment scale specified in the course description, which is as follows: 5 (excellent), 4 (very good), 3 (good), 2 (satisfactory) and 1

4 Curriculum 4 (6) (adequate) or a pass (P)/fail (0). The course is failed (fail (0)) if the student does not achieve the minimum outcomes set for completion of the course. ACCREDITATION AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL) MODE OF STUDY The student has the right to know how the criteria apply to him or her. Course performance is recorded in the transcript of records no later than one month after the declared time of completion of the course and always before the end of the school year. The procedures for accreditation are described in the Degree Regulations and in the Study Guide. Studying in the Logistics Engineering programme is full-time. The programme is divided into courses. Each course may include contact lessons, individual and project assignments, cases or project assignments and exams or other measurements of learning. In study tours, project work and courses, students get to know about business life. Some courses include project work in which students solve the practical challenges of companies. Some courses also have study tours to companies. Practical training is also done in companies. Practical training is done in three periods. Students are responsible for finding training placements for themselves. Most such training is done in a normal employment relationship during the summer. The Bachelor s thesis in the final part of the studies is also normally done in a business environment. These modes of studying include close cooperation with business life during studies. This makes it easier for students to find professional jobs after graduation. There is an international study tour during the third year of studies. During this tour, students attend lectures to get to know to the logistics business and educational environment of a selected area. For Finnish students of the programme, there is an exchange period abroad during the fourth year of studies. PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND KNOW-HOW QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS AND REGULATIONS ADDITIONAL INFORMATION GRADUATION Most of the courses use a virtual learning environment to support the learning process of students. Studies are structured into learning areas, courses and JAMK s common and programmespecific learning objectives. The contents of the courses, planned schedules and learning outcomes are described in the study guide. There are no degree-specific qualification requirements and regulations. The students may be charged separately for the cost of materials corresponding to the real acquisition or production costs of study materials, tools, equipment or supplies that remain in the student's possession after the education is completed. If a student obtains similar material from other sources, he or she is not charged the material costs (Government Decree 1230/2009 2). Bachelor's degree programmes are free for students. The prerequisite for receiving the certificate of a Bachelor's degree is for students to complete the studies of their degree programme during the study period in accordance with their personal learning plan (PLP).

5 Curriculum 5 (6) EMPLOYMENT AND FURTHER STUDIES EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES OPPORTUNITIES FOR POST-GRADUATE STUDIES JAMK University of Applied Sciences provides students with a certificate of completion of the Bachelor's degree (240 ECTS credits). The academic transcripts are attached to the certificate. The programme closely cooperates with business life to ensure that its content fully fits with the present and future requirements of the international logistics business. Students may work in various fields where professionals of logistics are needed: industry, business, services, banks and education. After graduation and after about three years of working life, students of a Bachelor s degree programme can continue their studies in a Master's degree programme. A Master's degree from a University of Applied Sciences is equivalent to a Master's degree from a University. Students can also continue their studies by applying, for example, for the Master's degree programmes of universities or for equivalent training. After Bachelor's studies it is, of course, also possible to continue at foreign institutions of higher education in Master s-level degree programmes. The University of Applied Sciences also offers continuing education opportunities for specialisation studies, learning agreement-based in-service training and working life-based continuing education. If a student graduates from the Master's degree programme, he or she can continue his/her studies in the scientific or artistic studies of universities ( 37/558/2009). All further studies must be applied for separately. OTHER INFORMATION HEAD OF THE DEGREE PROGRAMME PROGRAMME PLANNING PROCESS Students may continue their studies at Master s level at universities of applied sciences and universities and then all the way to a PhD at universities if they meet the entrance requirements. JAMK Management creates the planning framework (including the process descriptions in the JAMK process manual, see also figure 4). The JAMK Academic Board approves the basis of the curricula (internal board) and the Vice Rector approves the curricula for the degree programmes. Educational Development Services prepare curriculum guidelines, comment on draft curricula and publish finalised curricula including all courses and other requirements for the degree programme in the study guide on JAMK's website. The curricula of the programmes are completely open and public. All degree programmes update their curricula each year. A more thorough update of the curricula is carried out every five years or whenever necessary. The future competence needs of working life are always examined when the contents of the curricula are updated. External stakeholders comment on the draft curricula on the advisory board and contribute to the development of the curricula by providing feedback. Graduates give information about their placement in the labour market and the match between the education and competences needed in the industry through a follow-up survey carried out one year after graduation placement.

6 Curriculum 6 (6) SCHOOL QUALITY MANAGEMENT JAMK University of Applied Sciences School of Technology, Degree Programme in Logistics Engineering Rajakatu 35, Jyväskylä JAMK University of Applied Sciences uses the quality management system audited by the Finnish Higher Education Evaluation Council (FINHEEC). The education is developed on the basis of feedback gathered from students. The programme was audited by an international audit group in Autumn On every course, interim feedback is collected. With this feedback, the lecturer can already improve the course during the ongoing semester. Final feedback is collected from a selected range of courses. The principles of the curriculum are approved by the JAMK University of Applied Sciences Board of Education and the Vice Rector of the degree programme-specific curriculum. PEDAGOGICAL PRINCIPLES The degree programme is implemented in accordance with the pedagogical principles established by the University of Applied Sciences Academic Board.
