Each day, they support tens of thousands of patients, healthcare professionals and public and private sector clients with the efficient collection and transportation of specimens, accurate testing in their state-of-the-art laboratories and prompt reporting of results. Headquartered in Brampton, Ontario, the client operates five laboratories in Ontario (Brampton, Bowmanville, London, Ottawa and Thunder Bay), two in Quebec (Saint-Laurent and Laval), Manitoba (Winnipeg) and Alberta (Edmonton). In addition, they operate 200 Patient Services Centres in Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. Their Patient Services Centres provide many services, including blood collection, urinalysis, ECG, Department of Transportation and allergy testing. Through a nation-wide mobile collection and transportation network, the client offers coast-to-coast services to clients and the healthcare industry. 2

3 Abstract Document sharing is the lifeblood of many organizations. Medical laboratories, health sciences, financial advisors, accountants, physicians, attorneys and more depend on the speedy delivery and receipt of documents. Of course, the documents generated by such businesses are often extremely sensitive. Thus, they must be shared securely, quickly and most important, easily. 3

4 Business Problems Faced Struggled finding a solution to efficiently and securely get infectious care reports distributed in a timely manner to the over 300 nursing homes Had tried numerous times with other technology: FTP: was too difficult to manage, and technically complex for the type of worker/manager at the nursing home to receive. Secure too complex for the nursing homes to adopt Organizing and arranging the infectious care reports was no easy task. Information was processed in the AS/400 and then merged into reports with hundreds of pages of charts and graphs. These reports ended up being printed and mailed. End Result: Hard copy print and mail. 6 Significant Impact on Environment by eliminating Print-Pack-Send of Monthly Report It takes more than 1.5 cups of water to make one sheet of paper. (Picture a typical soda can). A tree can only produce, on average, 17 reams of paper, but it takes 100 years for that tree to grow. In perspective 12 cases of paper/month is about 120 reams of paper, or about seven 100-year-old trees.
