3 If you re a high school student interested in the business of fashion, why wait until college to begin exploring your passion? The Saturday Fashion Lab at LIM College is a perfect opportunity to get an up-close, hands-on iew of the fashion industry in New York City the fashion capital of the world. We offer two Saturday Fashion Lab sessions yearly: one in the fall and one in the spring. You can choose one of eight aailable courses per session. Each session consists of fie classes held on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Our Saturday Fashion Lab gies you a chance to explore fashionrelated careers and begin acquiring the knowledge and skills you need to succeed in this fast-paced industry. 5 Celebrity Styling Learn how to prepare celebrities for fashion eents and the red carpet. Topics include borrowing samples, doing fittings, and collaborating with the hair and makeup teams. Photography session fee: $35 Eent Planning Discoer the world of eent planning and how it relates to fashion. You ll learn all the steps inoled in planning a fashion-industry happening and get hands-on experience by helping to plan and execute an actual industry eent. Materials fee: $15 Eolution Fashion This course introduces you to some of the hottest designers, past and present, and the impact they e had on the world of fashion. Marc Jacobs, Zac Posen, and Stella McCartney are among the contemporary designers whose work you ll examine. Fashion Analysis: Field Research Hae an eye for what to wear and what not to wear? This class takes you to a ariety of New York City neighborhoods to see what s hot and what s not. Learn how to spot trends and predict what styles and colors will become popular. You ll compile a photo-journal scrapbook of your discoeries. Must own digital camera. Materials fee: $35 (includes transportation, and digital image processing) Fashion Buying Buyers trael the world in search of the latest fashions for retailers and wholesalers. This course teaches you the ins and outs of being a professional buyer, including how to analyze fashion trends and understanding why people buy the clothes they do. Fashion Magazines Taught by industry professionals, this course gies you the inside scoop on the operation of leading fashion magazines, including highprofile publications such as Harper s Bazaar, Vogue, Elle, and Essence. Materials fee: $25 course Fashion Photography This hands-on course teaches you the fundamentals of fashion photography, including composition, lighting, model casting, location scouting, and editing. (You don t need your own camera for this course.) Materials fee: $10 Fashion Show Production Learn from the pros how to plan, promote, and produce an actual fashion show. Topics to be coered include concept, music selection, styling, model selection, and public relations. Materials fee: $25 Fashion Styling This course lets you explore the many opportunities in the wild world of fashion styling, from publications to lie eents. Learn about the stylist s responsibilities and get some inside tricks of the trade. Materials fee: $35 Marketing Communications This course introduces you to the fundamentals of adertising, public relations, direct marketing, and promotion management. You ll learn how to create an integrated marketing campaign that effectiely promotes your product or serice. The far east fashion world This course is designed to proide students with an introduction to an important and growing segment of the international fashion scene. You will learn about the young generation growing now in China, what fashion trends they are interested in, and how to market to them. The learning and knowledge gained will prepare you for your college-leel study in international business, fashion, and across many other disciplines. Visual Display and Merchandising This course gies you hands-on practice working with mannequins, props, and display cases. You ll learn basic design principles and how to apply them to present merchandise that makes a powerful fashion statement. Materials fee: $25

6 You can register for the Saturday Fashion Lab until the first day of classes. The best way to register is online: The LIM College Saturday Fashion Lab is open only to high school students who will be entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year, or who hae just graduated. Refer to the course descriptions to see the materials fees associated with each class. Stay tuned for Summer fashion lab Registration begins in March The Summer Fashion Lab runs for 4 weeks in July. Housing is aailable for students and their parents/guardians in our state-of-the-art residence hall. LIM College is located in four buildings in midtown Manhattan. We offer students an urban campus enironment in the heart of the world s most exciting city.
