Going handson with professional gear, I built confidence and learned the essential skills I needed to land my first V jobs. tephen was hired after college by NEP, the biggest provider of mobile television units in the United tates. As an engineer, tephen runs units doing NFL games, the Big East tournament, the X games, NBA Finals, the U Open and many other large events. He is currently helping run the EPN 3D truck, one of the most powerful mobile units in the country. tephen says his career is great travel and very exciting work! Broadcast engineers set-up, operate, and maintain equipment that regulates the signal strength, clarity, and the ranges of sounds and colors of television broadcasts. hese professionals also operate control panels to select the source of the material. Broadcast engineers need skills in information technology and electronics since most recording, editing, and broadcasting are done on computers. Mobile Unit Engineers in particular should enjoy travel and a have a strong capacity to work in high stress situations as they are oftentimes producing live events. Johns University, Major: Public Relations, Fast Forward to a Career in Fashion Industry Certifications Offered: Fashion, extiles, and Apparel Examination Alexis Foreman started her studies in fashion while in high school and has now holds the title of freelance fashion stylist/published fashion writer! aking fashion design I&II, really prepared me for the fashion industry. he course was handson and we covered all aspects of the industry from design and textile to event planning and marketing. As I continue on my career path, I remember the things I learned in my fashion design courses and continue to expand my knowledge and experience every day. Fashion Journalism Fashion journalism involves all aspects of published fashion media, including fashion writers, fashion critics, and fashion reporters. he most obvious examples of fashion journalism are the fashion features in magazines and newspapers, may also includes books about fashion, fashion related reports on television and online fashion magazines, websites, and blogs. A fashion journalist typically spends a lot of time researching and/or conducting interviews and it is essential that he or she has good contacts with people in the fashion industry, including photographers, designers, and public relations specialists. As the producer and host of the national teen career show, treaming Futures, Joel encourages teens to take advantage of career opportunities in high school just like he s done himself. he courses that helped me the most in high school were in the marketing program, Joel says. hey were terrific. What I really liked was that the teachers came from business backgrounds themselves, so they really knew about the material. [Also,] the speech and presentation skills I learned in marketing helped me build the confidence necessary to contact and solicit guests for treaming Futures. Joel is still working on his own future, too; in addition to his hosting duties, he is earning a business degree at Babson College. Attending the Academy gave me the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of fashion design, from textiles to patternmaking to design and constructing garments. hat experience helped develop my skill as a fashion designer and lead me to attend my dream design school, Fashion Institute of echnology in New York City! Fashion Designer he fashion industry is a billion dollar industry that includes clothing, footwear, and accessories. he role of the fashion designer can vary depending on the size of the firm and the experience of the designer. he vision and creativity of the fashion designer is what drives the trends and style of our society. Designers need skills in art and design, communication, computers, garment construction, and business to be competitive and successful in the field. Most fashion designers have a bachelor s degree in a related field, such as fashion design or fashion merchandising. My high school experience was informative and fun. I thought I knew a lot about television production until I took my academy class at the Fairfax Academy. here was a lot more equipment available to explore at the academy and I was thrilled to constantly video live and taped productions. It was also great working with students from throughout the county who had the same career interest as me. Drew is now pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Media tudies from Radford University. Film and Video Editors and Camera Operators Film and video editors and camera operators record images that entertain or inform an audience. Camera operators capture a wide range of material for V shows, motion pictures, music videos, documentaries, or news and sporting events. Editors construct the final productions from the many different images camera operators capture. hey collaborate with producers and directors to create the final production. Careers in this field are competitive and come with a lot of pressures, especially with live productions. After obtaining a postsecondary degree, most individuals will find success in the field through years of work and experience.
