Presentation In an era when ideas are conveyed through images, the art director becomes the main crafter of messages. The language of typography, video, illustration, art, photography and music merge together, expanding current graphic design practices and boosting visual creation with the efficiency needed to communicate in the current market. In the very near future every company will require an art director responsible for its aesthetic strategy, to unify its messages and help it connect with the customer as sensitively and directly as possible. The Master s Degree in Design and Art Direction is divided into two postgraduate courses, the Postgraduate Diploma in Design and Communication Strategies and the Postgraduate Diploma in Art Direction. Its primary aim is to train professionals to have a strategic and global vision of communication, gaining a mastery of the art director s skills and roles to create and manage projects in the field of visual messages currently expressed through so many disciplines. Course aims This programme s main objectives are to: Highlight the central role of strategic communication as a factor of analysis, differentiation and positioning, for organisations in both the private and public sector. Train new professionals with strategic views and thoughts on communication and design to achieve real and efficient solutions to the problems raised. Harness students skills and provide them with tools so they can design a global and multichannel strategic action. Inform about the latest practices and trends in communication and design. Train professionals, theoretically and practically so they can create and manage projects in the field of visual messages to master the skills and roles of art directors. Promote immersion in audiovisual culture, provide multidisciplinary skills and the interrelationship between languages and creative platforms (music, theatre, film, installation, Internet, etc.). Establish various lines of theoretical and practical work for the analysis and control of the effectiveness of the persuasive audiovisual message. Schedule: Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 5 pm to 9.15 pm Syllabus The structure of the Postgraduate Diploma in Design and Communication Strategies is based on the following four subject areas: 1. Communication and context Theoretical framework which establishes the main concepts, the context for the analysis, and possible creative solutions. Communication theory. Semiotics and communication - Fundamental principles of human communication - The strategic dimension of communication - The persuasive dimension of communication An ethnographic look at communication Companies communication requirements Strategic communication in public administration Strategy in personal presentations 2. The multiples language of design. Languages, supports and channels Theoretical framework and creative praxis of graphic communication from the point of view of its ability to produce and convey messages that add value to organisations on the basis of a planned strategy. Design and communication Languages, supports and channels Aesthetics and style in graphic communication Resources of visual communication Transmedia communication Social Media Storytelling 3. Analysis and strategy In this context, the various media available to perform an action are studied: traditional media and new digital supports. Students are provided with tools to analyse and plan campaigns, such as comprehensive marketing and strategic planning.
