APPLICATION NOTE & CobraNet and PC Call Station Introduction This application note (AN) describes an example of the PC Call Station (PC CST) in combination with and CobraNet. General In this example we have a PC CST and 3 systems connected via Cobranet. The 3 systems are connected via an Ethernet switch. Audio and control data are both on the same network. Basic knowledge of the configuration and system set-up is necessary to be able to configure the system. The CobraNet, PC CST and some settings are explained in this AN. For more information on the configuration of, CobraNet and PC CST check the IUI. PC Call Station The PC CST is a sw package provided by Bosch Security Systems and is free of charge. The PC CST can route calls and Back Ground Music (BGM) to loudspeaker zones in a system but also to remote systems, connected via analog audio lines or CobraNet. A TCP/IP connection between the main system and the remote systems is always required. The PC CST can also handle chimes, alarm signals, messages priorities etc. Keep in mind that the PC CST sw package is a demo version with limited functionality. It is not possible to add icons, bitmaps, pictures, logo s etc. There is a limitation in, the number of systems, the number of zones and the number of messages it can handle. However, the PC CST program is written in Visual Basic and the source code is free available, so a software engineer can modify and expand the PC CST, if required AN CobraNet & PC CST 1-20
CobraNet Developed by Peak Audio, CobraNet is the industry's leading technology for distributing uncompressed real-time digital audio over a Fast Ethernet network. CobraNet basics CobraNet spec s 48 KHz or 16, 20, 24 bits Audio routed in bundles. Up to 8 audio channels per bundle Up to 4 transmitter bundles per CobraNet unit Up to 4 receiver bundles per CobraNet unit 32 channels full duplex capacity per CobraNet interface Low latency, 5-1/3, 2-2/3 and 1-1/3ms spec s 16 bits 4 audio inputs per CobraNet interface (Node) 4 audio outputs per CobraNet interface (Node) and CobraNet In the CobraNet interface, 4 input- and 4 output channels are available. These 4 input and 4 output channels are fixed routed to CobraNet channels 1 to 4. With the CNConfig configuration program these 4 CobraNet channels can be routed to channels in the available CobraNet bundles. The 1 st channel is used for BGM, the 2 nd channel for calls. (If more BGM channels are requires more audio channels are needed) In CobraNet this means that 2 channels have to be routed from the main system to the remote systems. These 2 channels can be in the same multicast bundle. Using a multicast bundle, multiple, remote, systems can be connected AN CobraNet & PC CST 4-20
Multicast bundles can have multiple receivers assigned to 1 transmitter. Basically there is no limit to the number of remote systems, the receivers. In this example calls and BGM are send from the main system 1 to the remote systems 2 and 3. Routing diagram for CobraNet PC CST routing in CobraNet AN CobraNet & PC CST 5-20
system1: the transmitter Call Station configuration The Call Station (CST) only requires the basic settings. Most of the settings are in the PC CST. Priority, chimes, alarm tones, messages, zone selection etc. are determined by the PC CST. Though the CST is used by the PC CST it can still operate as an stand-alone CST with it s own functionality and without the use of the PC CST Using the PC CST, the Press to Talk key (PTT key) is not used. The PTT key for the PC CST is part of the PC CST screen. System definition: Enable Name : Mark to enable the CST : Enter the name of the CST. This name is also used in the PC CST configuration Call station type : Select type of CST: Basic or Kit. Extensions : If connected, enter the number of extensions (Not used by the PC CST) Serial number : Enter the serial number Equipment configuration: Class Partial Call Sensitivity Supervision : Select Normal or Emergency (Not used by the PC CST) : Select Yes or No (Not used by the PC CST) : Select the required sensitivity : Select On or Off AN CobraNet & PC CST 6-20

The names of the zones are used in the configuration of the PC CST. These names appear on the PC CST screen. Zone and Amplifier: Assign amplifier output(s) to the loudspeaker zones AN CobraNet & PC CST 7-20
For the connection to CobraNet, 2 zones have to be configured. The zone names will be used in the PC CST configuration as well. CobraNet output CIN1_AO1 bgm is assigned to zone BGMOut. CobraNet output CIN1_AO2 is assigned to zone CallOut. BGM channel Input NCO1 CN_AI1 bgm is the input for BGM and is assigned to BGM channel BGM The name of the BGM channel will appear on the PC CST screen. The name BGM is also used in system 2 and 3 Do not assign loudspeaker zones for default music routing. The setting will be overruled by the PC CST and will not be restored until a restart of the NCO AN CobraNet & PC CST 8-20
CobraNet configuration CIN1_AO1 bgm is, internally, connected to AO1 of the CobraNet interface. AO1 is assigned to bundle 200 (=multicast bundle), channel 1 The selected format is 16 bit. CIN1_AO2 is, internally, connected to AO2 of the CobraNet interface. AO2 is assigned to bundle 200 (=multicast bundle), channel 2 The selected format is 16 bit. The result of these settings: BGM, routed on the PC CST in system 1, is now available on bundle number 200, channel 1. PC CST calls from system 1 is now available on bundle number 200, channel 2. Each CobraNet unit connected to the network can receive the BGM and call signals AN CobraNet & PC CST 9-20
