1 Continuous Professional Development Plan for Social Workers working within Children s Social Care The training and development opportunities set out below have been identified as those that the Division would expect social work employees to have undertaken at each level of the Professional Capabilities Framework (PCF). This list is not exhaustive and employees may wish to carry out other external recognised training to complement their own continuous professional development. There is no automatic right once you have completed these training and development activities to move up to the next social work level; you will need to apply for posts at the next level. 3 Year 2 onwards - Continued PCF Level: Social Worker (SW) Bromley Equivalent Post Grade Social Worker BR11 (level 2 SW)/BR12 (level 3 SW) Holding a consistent caseload of child protection work and demonstrating and evidencing effective partnership working with other professionals and those families Undertaking direct work with children who have suffered abuse or who may be being maltreated and evidencing good communication skills with those children and young people; able to effectively hear their views, wishes and feelings and the child s journey through the child protection process Coordinating network meetings and liaison with key professionals in a way that evidences effective partnership working Evidencing collaborative working with families to reduce risk and address welfare needs Receiving (in addition to own supervision) or providing coaching and supporting junior staff and presenting key case work and research to the team, to support own and others development and learning Evidencing learning through reflective practice & critical thinking & participation in key multi agency meetings Meeting the minimum requirements of the reflective practice framework in LBB LBB is currently in the process of creating a Senior Practitioner Progression Pathway programme which will give Social Workers the opportunity to undertake a structured developmental programme in order to develop the capabilities required to be a Senior Practitioner (more details to follow in early 2015) Year 3 PCF Level: Experienced Social Worker Bromley Equivalent Post Grade: SW (BR12 level 3 SW)/Senior Practitioner Can take 1 st Year social work student Practice Educator Professional Standards Stage 1 Enabling Others (PEPS1) (module within Grad Dip) Family Systemic Therapy 1 year long course The Developing World of the Child ( specialist module within Grad Dip) Legal, Theoretical and Policy Frameworks (specialist module within Grad Dip) Promoting Positive Outcomes for Children with Additional and Complex Needs (specialist module within Grad Dip) Induction: Welcome To Bromley/ Induction to Children s Social Care ABE- optional Assessing Disorganised Attachment & Child Development Training (ADAM) Signs of Safety *Safeguarding training Group 4/5 Chairing Meetings Around Children Chronology Training: Using A Child History to Analyse Risk Common Assessment Framework: Developing Confidence in Chairing Team Around the Child Meeting Developing Confidence in Working with Diversity Domestic Abuse & Violence Against Women & Girls A Child Protection Issue Early Help: Understanding & Using Common Assessment Framework (CAF) (refresher) Effective Supervisory Skills: Facilitating Reflective Practice & Critical Thinking Engaging Hard to Reach Families Parental Mental ILL Health: Working Better Together to Safeguard the Child & The Adult Parental Substance Misuse: Tackling the Impact on Children & Young People s Safety Safeguarding Children: A Multi Agency Approach(plus refresher) Safeguarding Disabled Children Protecting Our Most Vulnerable Children Safeguarding Young Carers The Challenge of Safeguarding Neglected Children in Families with Complex Needs Working Together to Prevent Child Sexual Exploitation Working with Perpetrators of Domestic Abuse Working with Young People Experiencing or at Risk of Domestic Abuse *Must undertake these courses for progression Undertaking higher level complex case work, more complex and challenging care proceedings and child protection work. This includes complex neglect and child sexual abuse cases. Supervision of first year student and taking greater responsibility for supporting the development of another and directing their work and overseeing those tasks are completed to outcome. Given increasing responsibility to support and coach others in the team and present case work and research in team and multi-agency discussions.
