3 I. Purpose of the HVAC Calculator The HVAC Calculator was created for Santee Cooper s Reduce the Use for Business rebate program with two goals in mind. The first goal was to create a tool that would assist trade allies in estimating energy savings potential associated with HVAC equipment replacement options whether considering retrofit applications or new buildings under design or construction. Additionally, the calculator tool provides a simple payback estimate and other economic factors. The workbook highlights, in graphical form, the potential energy savings (and payback if all parameters are entered) associated with equipment installed that meets or exceeds energy code. It was designed to assist trade allies with selling the project to the customer. The second goal was to provide a tool to facilitate the rebate application process a rebate will not be considered without submission of this workbook to Santee Cooper. This manual is intended to guide you through the process of entering a project in the HVAC calculator, ultimately facilitating a rebate to the customer. II. Before You Begin Step 1 Download HVAC Calculator Download the HVAC Calculator from the Trade Ally portal. You will need your log-in and password to do this. Go to: Step 2 Enable macros Enable macros (if you do not have them enabled). For newer versions of Excel, simply click the enable macros button and follow the instructions provided. 4 III. Customer Information Section Providing a document that you can leave with a customer is one of the many benefits of using this tool. The calculator includes fields that mirror information required on the customer rebate program application. These fields are checked in an effort to verify completeness of the accompanying application. As you are aware, sharing a proposal with the customer s information illustrated lends credibility to the proposal. Step 1 Business Name, Address, Contact Information Fields (cells) have been provided that allow for capture of the Business name, Address (street, city, state, zip), and Contact information. A cell has been provided to capture a telephone number for the contact. This is useful to Santee Cooper in the event follow-up phone calls are required such as for inspection scheduling or verification of any information contained on the forms. Question: Why has a field been provided for Project Name? Answer: Identifying a rebate by a Project name simplifies the rebate review / tracking process and is extremely helpful when there are multiple retrofit projects underway with a single client. 5 Step 2 Account Number, Meter Number, Rate Schedule These fields are important for determining the customer s eligibility, estimating potential energy savings, and computing the rebate. You can find the information on the customer s monthly electric bill. ``````````````````````````````````````` When entering the customer s rate schedule, select the correct rate schedule from the selection list that appears. If the customer s rate schedule does not appear in the selection list, they are most likely not eligible for Santee Cooper s rebate program. Step 3 Building Type, Annual Schedule, and Operating Hours This information is required to compute HVAC energy (kw / kwh) consumption. A. Building Type To view available building choices, single-click the Building cell, and then click the dropdown arrow that appears at the right of the cell (As illustrated in the image to the left). Annual Schedule To view available schedule choices, single-click the Schedule cell, and then click the dropdown arrow that appears at the right of the cell (As illustrated in the image to the left). Occupied Year-round Closed Summer Extended Summer Hours Summer Only The annual schedule type has a significant impact on the annual cooling hours that the equipment runs, especially for restaurants, schools, and retail spaces. 6 C. Operating Hours Enter the number of hours that a facility is open for each day of the week under Op. Hours. IV. Existing and Proposed Equipment The newest version of the HVAC calculator allows you to enter the existing equipment and a standardefficiency option in addition to the required high-efficiency option providing a comparison to help the customer in making their upgrade decision. The instructions that follow are nearly identical for entering equipment information for existing, standardefficiency, or highefficiency equipment. It is important that these instructions be followed as the information needed in later steps will be determined by the information in the preliminary steps. Note: Entering Existing Equipment Taking the additional step of collecting information on the existing systems and entering it into the HVAC calculator creates a comparison of the energy use of the existing equipment to that of the proposed (new) high-efficiency equipment. This comparison highlights the savings that can be achieved over the current equipment and demonstrates your expertise and eagerness to help the customer save money! If Owner s Manual is not available, most equipment (regardless of age) can be looked up on the internet using the manufacturer/model number or even the serial number located on the compressor name plate. 7 Step 1 Quantity of equipment Enter the number of proposed highefficiency units. Step 2 HVAC System Type Select the proposed unit type. There are eighteen possible options to choose from for the HVAC System Type: 1 Phase Heat Pump Single Package VRF/Mini-Split AC VRF/Mini-Split HP W/ Heat Recovery 1 Phase Heat Pump Split System VRF/Mini-Split HP Air Cooled Chiller w/ Condenser 3 Phase Heat Pump Single Package PTAC (New Construction) Air Cooled Chiller w/o Condenser 3 Phase Heat Pump Split System PTAC (Retrofit) Water Cooled Chiller Non-Centrifugal 3 Phase Unitary AC Single Package PTHP (New Construction) Water Cooled Chiller Reciprocating 3 Phase Unitary AC Split System PTHP (Retrofit) Water Cooled Chiller Centrifugal Question: What if I have a piece of equipment that does not fall into one of these categories? Answer: A different approach than the HVAC calculator is required to determine energy savings. Contact your Santee Cooper Reduce the Use 4 Business trade ally representative for assistance. Step 3 Rated Cooling Capacity The units for cooling capacity (whether BTUh or tons) are determined by the HVAC Type of equipment selected. Pay close attention to the units that appear on the right of the Cooling Capacity column to ensure you enter an appropriate value in the cell. Page 7 of 9

8 Step 4 Efficiency Values Full & Part Load Cooling, Full Load Heating Efficiency ratings vary depending upon the type, size, and even phase of equipment installed. As a result, equipment selection options under this step are numerous. Depending on the selected HVAC Type performed in Step 2, as many as (3) three efficiency values may be required to determine whether equipment is eligible for a rebate and also to calculate energy savings. By hovering the cursor over efficiency-value input cells, a pop-up window containing the minimum code and eligibility values for each efficiency type will appear. The pop-up lists the various equipment efficiency levels required for rebate eligibility. Enter the specific value based on the manufacturer s published product literature for a specific model number. Note: Efficiency values cannot be entered until the HVAC Type and Cooling Capacity cells are filled in.. Note: There are no pop-ups for efficiency values in the existing equipment section as you only entering the existing values. Step 5 Project Costs Take advantage of the calculating power built into this tool. Entering the equipment costs for the equipment will enable the computation of energy use and payback scenarios for the customers. Page 8 of 9

9 V. Graphical Results The following image shows a completed HVAC calculator tool for an example project. The left half shows the sections for inputting customer and equipment information. The right half shows the results of the entered data. Notice the annual usage/energy consumption comparisons and payback analysis are for (3) three pieces of equipment! The energy consumption and/or operating costs of the original (i.e. old) equipment are compared to a new code-compliant system as well as a new high-efficiency system. Page 9 of 9
