New Construction/Major Renovation Whole Building Path
How to Apply? NC/Major Renovation Send pre-application during design phase of project Lighting schedule Mechanical schedule Energy model if applicable (whole building) Specification sheets (prescriptive) LEED report (whole building) Final Application Payment schedule or invoicing Certificate of occupancy Final agreement signature page Updated model -if applicable (whole building)
How Do I Apply? Fill out customer information page and prescriptive worksheet Gather scope of project, spec sheets on proposed measures Have customer sign the customer information page and send the gathered information to aepohio incentives@dnvkema.com or use the online application
What is a Custom Measure? Energy Savings Measure NOT found on Prescriptive list Pre-approval application required Existing equipment should be operational Pre-measurements may be required Submit savings estimate Provide the methods used to determine estimate Project must meet utility cost effectiveness test which typically meets a 1-7 year payback Please submit applications even if you re calculations don t meet the 7 year payback, the program team will re-look at it
Custom Application $100 per kw removed Fill out small description of project
Some Common Custom Projects Process improvements New technology applications Energy Management Systems over 50,000 sq ft. Large Air Compressors Compressed Air System Optimization Injection Molding Machines Cooling tower optimization Building Envelope Measures Free cooling- water side economizers
Acceptable Calculation Methods Engineering calculations Simplest method to document savings Staff will assist with engineering calculations, please ask for help May be well-established engineering procedures, such as the binmethod Whole building modeling methods Measures with building-wide impacts or impacts across a number of systems Use generally accepted public domain energy modeling software Provide both the actual billing calibrated base case and post-case input files and annotate the files Equipment or process sub-metering Whole building metering/billing analysis
Injection Molding Machines VFD on hydraulic Machines Nameplate information of the machine(mfg, model, power data and tonnage) Project scope 1 week time series pre kw metered data in 5 minutes interval Machine production throughput (lbs/hr). Annual production in lbs of the molding machine 1 week time series post kw metered data in 5 minutes interval Itemized invoices
Injection Molding Machine Initiative Upgrading Hydraulic or Hybrid to all electric 10 applications from 10 facilities until 4/30/2013 Pre-applications will be reserved at $0.05 per kwh estimated energy savings Final incentive will be paid at $0.07 per kwh of actual monitored energy savings
Energy Management System Example Install new DDC system replacing the old pneumatic control system Add instrumentations and advanced features to existing EMS system to achieve energy savings 1. Centralized control scheduling, settings of building HVAC and Lighting 2. Control time of use 3. Staging/sequencing of chillers, pumps and AHUs 4. Demand side ventilation AEP Ohio Incentive -$0.20 per sq. ft of conditioned space < 50,000 sq ft. Or >= 50,000 sq. ft = custom calculation $0.08 per kwh
Custom Example: Large VFD >200hp Assume that this is an early replacement project-adding a VFD to a device that is currently operating Pre-application is required for custom incentives VFDs generally must have automatic feedback speed control (If motor is 600V or less) AEP Ohio Business team inspector will likely install data-logging kw meters for a period of 1 week, compared against production, flow, or other metric that makes sense to normalize AEP Ohio will then, if possible, estimate the energy savings based on the future control strategy as we understand it If we are unable to predict energy savings, we can reserve projects based on customer/contractor supplied predictions
Project is now Complete Custom Example: Large VFD >200hp After we receive the Final Application we will likely postmeter the equipment for at least 1 week This will be normalized against production, flow, or other metric as recorded on the pre-application review Savings will then be extrapolated for a full year s value Final incentives are $0.08 per first year kwh up to 50% of project costs (not counting internal labor costs) FINAL INCENTIVES ARE BASED ON ACTUAL ENERGY SAVINGS FOUND IN FINAL APPLICTION THIS MAY DIFFER SUSTANTIALLY FROM RESERVED VALUE!
