1 Welcome Address by Mr Loh Yew Seng, CEO of SPH Magazines, at Her World s 55 th Anniversary Gala Dinner and the Her World Woman Of The Year 2015 Awards Night, on Friday, 21 August 2015, 7pm, at Shangri-La Hotel, Island Ballroom Mdm Halimah Yacob, Speaker of Parliament, Mr Alan Chan, Chairman, SPH Magazines and CEO, Singapore Press Holdings, Distinguished guests, Ladies and gentlemen, good evening. Welcome to Her World s 55 th anniversary gala dinner and the Her World Woman of the Year and Young Woman Achiever 2015 awards ceremony. Her World has reached yet another big milestone this year. It is our 55th birthday! Since the first issue of Her World in July 1960, the magazine has always prided itself on knowing women. We continue to be the definitive guide on issues that matter to women today. For 55 years, Her World has been the best-read women's magazine in Singapore, with a readership of 169,000, based on

2 the Nielsen Media Index 2014, with many accolades to its name. Her World also has a strong presence in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam, and an aggregate readership of more than 900,000 in the region. Her World is a trendsetter that empowers women and has pioneered many events and awards for them. Her World's readers often multi-task. They read magazines on tablet, scroll through Instagram posts on their smartphones, and Whatsapp their families and friends. In spite of their fragmented attention spans, Her World continues to capture its readers' imaginations through quality content that's covered with depth, breadth and sophistication. Our deep understanding of our readers has ensured our continued relevance and popularity. Her World engages readers with interactive content, capturing an audience beyond print on our digital platforms. Her World was the first to establish prestigious awards that

3 celebrate outstanding women in Singapore, whose achievements have a broad impact on society. Winners of the Her World Woman of the Year and Young Woman Achiever awards include women from a diverse range of professions from businesswomen, lawyers and diplomats to advocates in social and community work. Each tells a different story, but all are highly talented and inspiring. Madam Halimah, our Guest of Honour tonight, who was the recipient of this award in 2003, is a good example. Being the leading beauty and fashion title, Her World also created its signature event, the Her World Beauty Awards, in Every year, the Her World beauty team, along with a panel of industry experts such as dermatologists, hairstylists, makeup artists and beauty bloggers, put to the test a slew of new products that span skincare, makeup, haircare, body care, perfumes and gadgets. Avid support from readers and advertisers has established the Her World Beauty Awards as the most important beauty event in Singapore. Her World was also the first women's magazine, along with its online portal HerWorldPlus.com, to organise a forum where young,

4 successful women can share the secrets of their success with other women. The Her World Young Woman Achiever Forum, inaugurated on March 8, 2014, features a panel of these successful women and allows them to inspire other young women to pursue what they are truly passionate about. Tonight, we are pleased to honour two women who represent and project the best of Singapore, at home or abroad, and are inspirations and role models to society. You will learn more about them in a while. I would like to thank Ms Jennie Chua, the Chairperson of the judging committee, and the judges, Ms Elaine Lim, Mr Douglas Benjamin, Mr Ken Lim, Mr Wong Kim Hoh, Mr Jackie Lee, Ms Melissa Kwee, Ms Ginney Lim and Ms Caroline Ngui for their valuable input. I would also like to thank the Her World team, who has been working tirelessly behind the scenes to make this event, and the year-long 55th anniversary celebration, a success. Last but not least, I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to all our winners both past and present who are here tonight.
