1 Alcide De Gasperi University of Euroregional Economy in Jozefow BALTIC SEA SUMMER UNIVERSITY THE BALTIC COUNTRIES IN EUROPE REPORT OF THE SESSION WARSAW (Poland) July 13 th to 19 th, 2016

2 The Baltic sea summer university took place in Warsaw from July 13 th to 19 th with the collaboration of Alcide De Gasperi University of Euroregional Economy in Josefow. This new partner was very involved in the organisation of the session and took a large part in the success of this summer school. Even if this university was out of Warsaw, at about 35 km from the city center of Warsaw, the location was very nice because of a quiet environment in the middle of nature. However, the foreign students were accommodated in an hotel, in the city centre of Warsaw, close to the old town but also very close to the train station that we have to use each morning to join the University. The academic program was structured around some issues of The Baltic countries in Europe. Even if the partner didn t propose any polish candidate, the group represented 8 different countries, with a lot of Indian candidates of Jozefow University. The Academic sessions contained approximately 30 hours of lectures, seminar, institutional visits and discussions in groups. They were conducted in English by international experts from European Union and Poland. All the participants enjoyed a rich program of additional activities that allowed them to appreciate the culture of this country. A full day excursion was offered in another very famous historic place of Poland, the city of Lodz. All the candidates completed the program successfully and received a certificate of participation. Additionally, those students who presented some more work after the session acquired ECTS Credits. We also asked our students at the end of the session to fill out the evaluation questionnaire and comment upon our programme. Their observations, which can be found further on in this report have been of a great value for us. Thanks to the very friendly involvment of our Polish partner Michal who immediately formed that special bond which made the group friendly for many and many years. We hope that this session in Poland will be a very nice memory for each one 1

13 EVALUATION This programme, organised in Warsaw for the first time was very appreciated. The examination of the evaluation forms have proved a large satisfaction with an average level of satisfaction of 90 % given by the candidates The candidates were, for the majority, very surprised to be accommodate in such an hotel, located very close from the old city and very comfortable even if, from outside, the aspect a little bit soviet could surprise. Nevertheless, this structure, with more than 300 rooms, was very comfortable with a huge breakfast buffet each morning. The students, but also visiting teachers, were delighted. The location, close to both the railway station and all the touristic sites of the city, was really ideal and a very short walk each morning was necessary to reach the train for Jozefow in less than 10 minutes. Regarding the lectures and the speakers, the candidates gave a rating of about 8/10 for each lecturer of the programme, which can be considered as a very good average. Except a few candidates with an academic level a little bit superior to the others, all the students were very satisfied. They all noticed a very large satisfaction about - relations with the staff, - administrative assistance offered before and during the program - cultural and tourist activities offered outside the program - conduction of the educational program, etc. The choice of topics was appreciated and for the majority of the group, specially the candidates from Jozevow University, all the topics were relevant and presented in a very interesting and proper way. The majority of the students made many positive comments about the team of lecturers, and judged the programme interesting. The academic programme was not too overbooked and a good balance was proposed between courses and visits (a power station and the very popular Warsaw Rising Museum). They also took time to visit for themselves a lot of other famous places and museums in Warsaw. Although the candidates, with the help of their local friends, have appreciated the opportunity to explore the city openly and widely during the evening and the excursion, organised in the middle of the week, was considered as a cultural, but very funny time, of this session. The students also appreciated relationship with the director of the programme and the partner. The general opinion was that the opportunity of an academic program and experience of living together with so many representatives of other nationalities will benefit each and everybody in the future. In conclusion, the candidates have been satisfied with the program and expressed the wish to follow another summer session of CIFE in the future. The polish partner also extend its gratitude for the organization of this educational programme giving such opportunities for students. A "lunch party" organised at the end of the programme, gave the opportunity for every student to receive a certificate proving his participation in the programme. CIFE warmly thanks Alcide de Gasperi University of Euroregional Economy in Jozefow and specially the Rector or this University Dr Tadeuzs Graca, Michal Lęski for his very friendly involvement in the organization of the programme and Prof. Ryszard Piasecki who was the promoter of this initiative and enabled a successfully session. 12
