1 Taitaja2015 in Turku, FINLAND 5-7 May 2015 Taitaja, the largest annual vocational education event in Finland, will be held at the Turku Fair and Congress Centre and HK Areena on 5 7 May The event will comprise the National Skills Competition for VET students, in addition to the Taitaja9 and TaitajaPLUS competitions. Admission to this three day event will be free of charge, and approximately 50,000 visitors are expected at the event. Taitaja International The Taitaja finals will also include several international competitors from around the world. The aim is to invite representatives from 30 occupations to put their vocational skills to the test and to compare their skills with those of the best Finns. The event will function as an international dress rehearsal to the 2015 WorldSkills competition that will be held in Brazil during the autumn. The first gathering happens at the Competition Halls and continues with a joint meeting in Hostel Borea before leaving for the Grand Opening in the City of Turku in Logomo Premises. The first competition day starts on Tuesday morning at In the evening of the first competition day there will be a tour around Turku City guided by students of Tourism. After the second competition day there will be evening events organized both for guest competitors and their trainers. On the last day of the competition the final ceremony will be held inside competition area at the Fair Centre.

3 Other costs/ Visa There is NO participation fee in the competition. Also daily lunches will be given free of charge for competitors. On request, we supply tailored official invitations and the needed registration material which can be used with possible international contacts, to everyone separately. Transfer busses are taking people from hotels and to the competition area and back daily. 6 Taitaja2015 The Skills in Action FINNISH NATIONAL SKILLS COMPETITION The Finnish National Skills Competition for VET students forms the core of Taitaja. Over 450 people under the age of 20 from various vocational fields compete for the Finnish Championship in the Taitaja finals every year. The finalists are selected through semifinals, organised around Finland. TAITAJA9 AND TAITAJAPLUS The Taitaja9 and TaitajaPLUS competitions are organised in connection with Taitaja. The finalists for these competitions are also selected through semi-finals, organised around Finland. Taitaja9 is a non-serious team competition in craftsmanship for students of Comprehensive school in Year 9. The aim of the competition is to increase the interest of comprehensive school students in occupations that require craftsmanship, and to increase people s awareness and appreciation of vocational education. TaitajaPLUS is a skills competition for students with special needs, who have an Individual Education Plan (IEP). The skills competition features 45 different skill categories. The competition is open to vocational students who are aged 20 or under in the year of the competition. The competition design and construction replicate a genuine work environment. The competition tasks are in line with curricula grade Excellent (5). Each category is judged by a trilateral jury with representatives from educational, employer and employee organisations. Finnish finalists for the Taitaja 2015 competition are determined in semifinals organised in early 2015 across the country. The semifinals are attended by nearly 2,000 young students each year. Taitaja2015 will feature two demonstration skill categories. Demonstration categories are not competition events. Skill categories are featured as demonstration categories in two consecutive years before they are included in the competition. In addition, Taitaja2015 will feature a showcase presentation of three skill category.

Technology skills are needed in the world of work also in the future, but does the education take enough account of other skills needed in the future's world of work? How does vocational education meet the reforms? The speech will present the special characteristics that have affected the development of Finnish education and picture the future from the viewpoint of educational research.

How do they take account of different types of know-how while recruiting? What is the role of hidden know-how, e.g. an international internship? How can the schools and the employers co-operate and measure up to expectations even better? The speech will present the skills needs that an international employer has and also present, how these targets can be achieved from an enterprise's viewpoint Did we get in the right train? How do the changes the EU membership has brought about show in vocational education? How has it developed? What has been achieved in the light of research? What kind of influence does the European change have in global relations represented in the last speech? The Next Chance/ Pathways to International Education Visiting introductory speakers The contribution of developing societies outlines at least two global development stages; educational plans and projects in the Asia and the developing path of an emerging nation in South America from the viewpoint of education export by educational institutions and project work The Panel After the introductory speeches, a panel-like discussion will be organised with representatives from three countries that joined the European Union in 1995; Austria Susanne Klimmer, Finland Olli-Pekka Juhantila and Sweden Tommy Hellström.
