1 Westview High School Clubs Anime Club-20 This club is about discovering the Japanese culture, as well as the history of anime, and the different popular anime shows. Anthropology Club-30 The purpose of the club is to promote interest in the study of Anthropology. Students who participate in the Anthropology Club fundraise in order to pay for educational trips to ancient Native American archaeological sites. Asian Studies Club - 25 The purpose of this organization shall be to foster unity and support for Westview students and celebrate Asian Culture. It shall provide awareness of the Asian cultures to Westview High School faculty, administrators, students, and community, provide a means by which Asian- American students can become more visible to the Westview High School community, and create an atmosphere that not only supports Asian cultures but also enlightens them. Band-52 Band is a music-oriented performing ensemble of students that display their talents at concerts, competitions, and even football games. Choir-142 The choral music program WHS offers courses in which to develop each student s musical abilities to the fullest, and to encourage each student to contribute to performances of which we can all be proud. The courses concentrate on healthy vocal development, music performance skills, and historical/theoretical application of choral music with a very strong emphasis on sight singing. Close Up-18 students Goal of Close up is to provide all students, regardless of economic or academic background, the opportunity to study American government in Washington, DC and New York. Court Jester s Theatre Company-45 The club meets in order for students with like interests to foster their passion for theatre, participate in theatre related activities, and become part of a larger community of students Culinary Arts-24 Our focus is to prepare foods for anyone at WHS who needs it. We are catering the football dinners now, have teacher luncheons at least 2 times a month and will be offering special food items for sale such as pumpkin pies, pumpkin rolls, cookies, and hopefully in the near future take- out dinners. We do just about any catering that is asked of us but try to limit the number of people to no more than 100 if a whole meal is required due to time and storage space. We meet during class time and use the money we earn to buy more kitchen equipment and other items we need in our new kitchen. Students who participate can also

2 earn a Chef s jacket with their name on it and if we have enough money we have an end of the year banquet. FIDM Fashion Club-45 This is a club that is sponsored in part by the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, California. We are hoping to take a trip to their fashion camp 3 days of fashion this summer. They have divided themselves into groups: Beauty, Modeling, Fashion Design, Marketing, Photography, and Graphic Design. We cover some business and general announcements at each meeting and then the groups work on whatever they have planned for the day. For example, beauty learns techniques for hairstyling or make-up, modeling practices different walks, poses, etc. Photography take pictures for the modeling group. In fashion design they are making scrapbooks with their own designs, the graphic design group helps design flyers and printed our t-shirts, and the market group makes posters and helps organize fund-raisers. The club is planning a fashion show in April. FCCLA- 20 FCCLA is a national Family and Consumer Science Organization. Is a co-curricular organization for students in classes such as culinary arts, fashion, living with children. FCCLA often competes in district wide culinary challenges and raises awareness for all of the skills required in these courses. French Club 15. We were hoping to take a trip to take a trip to France this year and that has been cancelled. We are still doing fund-raisers to go to a French restaurant later in the year. At our meetings we explore francophone culture. For example we look at French pop culture on YouTube, look at French architecture/art on the internet, try different French foods. We also plan and execute fund-raisers. HOSA- 17 Arizona Health Occupations Students of America (AzHOSA) is a student organization whose mission is to promote career opportunities in health care and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. JAG-50 Job s for Arizona s Graduates. JAG's mission is to help young people stay in school and to acquire the academic, personal, leadership and vocational skills they will need to be successful upon graduation. JAG provides college and career success programming for students who have a desire to better themselves. Knightly News 22

3 The Knightly News Club, along with the journalism classes, produce the school newspaper at Westview. League of Philosophers-10 The purpose of the club is to attempt to produce mutually supported and consistent answers to questions about the nature of being, knowledge, and goodness through discourse; to share and gain wisdom while discussing these topics. Students who participate in this club meet weekly to discuss (not debate!) philosophical topics. Marine Corps Junior ROTC-169 THE MCJROTC program is a co-curricular club. The purpose of the club is to build leadership among young men and women by instilling disciple and responsibility. The organization of the club is identical to the format of a Marine Battalion. MCJROTC is actively engaged in Drill and Ceremony competitions and community service projects. Westview s MCJROTC is nationally recognized by the Navy. NHS-156 National Honor Society is a national and local service organization that requires its members to play an active part in the community, both school and non-school. To be considered for membership to the Westview chapter of the National Honor Society, a student must have a 3.5 cumulative grade point average at the end of the first semester of their sophomore year. If a student is accepted into National Honor Society, they must maintain the 3.5 or higher grade point average and complete a minimum number of service hours each year of membership. No Cussing Club-10 The No Cussing Club members take up the challenge to not cuss, swear, use bad language, or tell dirty jokes. They try to use language to uplift, encourage and motivate. Our main event of the year is in March, when we challenge the entire school to take up the challenge. I don t know how many members there are because we ve only met with the officers and a few other people. Peer Counseling 25 students The Peer Counseling program is a peer-helping program in which selected high school students, grades 9-12, are trained to work with other students either on our campus or on our feeder school campus. The ultimate goal is for students to become invested and active in the community around them we do this in class through Sean Covey s 6 Most Important Decisions, teambuilding activities, student-run service projects and various activities around campus designed to make Westview a better place.

4 Performance Dance Company-10 PDC s motto is about entertaining and educating the community about the various genres of dance. Spanish Club-11 The Spanish Club is dedicated to broaden club members perspectives of the Hispanic culture and prepare them for multi-cultural experiences. We have currently have 11 members, but we re trying to recruit more. SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions)-10 The purpose of the club is to provide students with the best prevention tools possible to deal with the issues of underage drinking, other drug use, risky and impaired driving, and other destructive decisions. Students who participate in this club run campaigns to promote awareness about these issues in order to help people avoid making decisions that could be harmful to themselves or others. Step Club - 12 The Step Club is composed of a group of Westview students who joined voluntarily to promote school spirit while at the same time entertaining with student made step routines. The club is an opportunity for students to engage in extracurricular fun after school and perform at events such as pep rallies, and school talent shows. Eventually the students would like to compete once they learn more and grow in size. Student Government-34 Student government is a co-curricular course of elected and appointed students. The function of Student Government as a club is to implement the organizational and leadership skills learned to raise spirit and awareness for Westview High School on campus and in the community. WHSup (Westview High School Unity Program) 30 This organization is established to promote unity on our campus and to reduce all forms of prejudice, such as those against race, gender, culture, social class, etc. We strive to unify the whole school by promoting activities that break down barriers to encourage appreciation of each other s differences. We encourage students to develop or continue developing school pride/spirit as well as self-pride.students who participate in this club meet weekly to discuss social justice issues. Club officers and members create and share presentations on the issues they are passionate about. Wild Science Film Club-25 In our club we watch and create science films (short demonstrations, experiments, interesting facts/news, etc.). We also go on science-based field trips (Arizona Science Center, zoos, camping in the Grand Canyon, etc.). Yearbook- 25 Yearbook Production is made up of a group of hardworking and creative students. Students are trained to take dynamic photographs, to design engaging layouts, to write captivating

5 stories, and to promote the selling of our book. Collectively, with these skills, we capture a years worth of memories that will last a lifetime. Youth Alive-30 Youth Alive is a Christian club on campus dedicated to impacting our culture and changing lives. YoungLife- 46 Westview s YoungLife is part of the national YoungLife Organization that focuses on changing the lives of students. Students are encouraged to come as they are, but to leave forever changed through God s grace. We are student driven: our student leaders take ownership in making club a reality, and they care about the students who come into the club.
