5 DC NOISE Goals: Challenge 5 : demographic change The East-Flanders province inhabitants are more aware of present and future demographic evolutions. Regionale stakeholders and policy makers are more aware of the consequences of demographic change. Local governments have learning experiences stimulating them to develop a vision and a strategy to deal with demographic change in a positive way.

6 Challenge DC NOISE Activity example: Visiting inhabitants aged over 80 and living at home to explain harmful elderly people how services and subsidies can help them to reside in their own home for a longer time and as independently as possible, to tell them how community services work, 5 : demographic change to assemble information about existing social isolation, social contacts, need for care, the acquaintance with and the need for social services, mobility, housing and home environment improvement.

7 DC NOISE Activity example: Visiting inhabitants aged over 80 and living at home RESULTS: Challenge 5 : demographic change In 3 municipalities about 2000 elderly people aged over 80 were visited. Lots of useful and specific data on ageing and how to to support elderly people to reside in their homes for a longer time and as independently as possible was produced.

10 RESOC-SERR activity goal 1 1. Local governments and ageing policies Goal: Local government employees will be able to develop an ageing policy based on correctly interpreted data to support elderly people to reside in their homes for a longer time and as independently as possible.

11 RESOC-SERR activity goal 1 1. Local governments and ageing policies Before: Lots of data on ageing are available, some local governments generate their own data (e.g. DC NOISE). Well interpreted data and numbers are critical in order to make the right choices. Local government employees do not always have the skills to correctly interpret available data on ageing.

Local governments and ageing policies Activities: RESOC will develop an ICT tool that helps local government employees with the input and interpretation of relevant data. RESOC will couple the tool with adapted training sessions which will also be written down in a course form.

Local governments and ageing policies Subsidiary project activities: RESOC will map efforts already taken by third parties to give local government employees easier access to interpretation of data on ageing policies. RESOC will develop the tool within the new policy and management cycle for local governments recently imposed by the Flemish government.

Encourage unemployed elderly people (50+) to search for employment by using also social media in addition to the traditional application channels b. Encourage employees in the care sector to promote their profession by the use of social media

19 Ontmoet uw toekomstige werknemers op de eerste Digitale Gentse Jobbeurs! 2 tot 13 mei 2012 U hebt vacatures? Die u op een originele manier wilt bekendmaken? Wij hebben daarvoor de oplossing! VDAB en Stad Gent (Dienst Werk) slaan de handen in elkaar om u een uniek forum te bieden, de Digitale Jobbeurs. U kunt er een onbeperkt aantal vacatures bekend maken, op elk moment de C.V. s bekijken van potentiële kandidaten en met hen een gesprek aanknopen. Bent u overtuigd van een kandidaat, dan nodigt u die uit voor een face-to-face gesprek. Digitale Jobbeurs Met de Digitale Jobbeurs kunt u tussen 2 en 13 mei: - een onbeperkt aantal vacatures verspreiden; - gedurende drie chatsessies live converseren met potentiële kandidaten; - 24 uren op 24 de C.V. s van geïnteresseerde kandidaten ophalen; - die informatie over uw onderneming verstrekken die u verkiest. Een digitale stand ziet er net zo uit als een beurs in real life. U kunt er folders, brochures, filmpjes, powerpointpresentaties en foto s tonen. Als u inschrijft dan ontvangt u van ons alle informatie over het hoe, wanneer U hoeft enkel het materiaal aan te leveren. Wij zorgen dat alles op de juiste plaats terecht komt in de stand. Via uw unieke url en login kunt u vacatures verwijderen of toevoegen en de C.V. s lezen van potentiële kandidaten wanneer u dat het beste past. Wat zijn uw voordelen?

Answer: 50+ club VDAB (public employment services) Obligatory 50+ info session for the unemployed (until 57), organised by VDAB or union Every unemployed 50+ is entitled to an individualised coaching by specialised VDAB 50+ consultants

22 Social media for job searching and job promotion Unemployed 50+ and social media Exploration - Consult with: 50+ club VDAB Ghent (responsible & 50+ consultants) Training centre VDAB ( Spoor 21 ) Conclusions: Spoor 21 offers consultants a broad view on social media But consultants are not trained/supported to translate this info into useful coaching for jobseekers Reluctancy (some are 50+ themselves) Time consuming (create new educational material with an unfamiliar scope)
