4 SPEAKERS Kim Caron began her career in the alarm industry in 1988 as a monitoring station operator. Over the years, she has worked for a family business, a large corporation and a not-for-profit association (Past National President of CANASA). Working her way up from an entry level position, Kim was able to gain experience in many areas of the industry including monitoring, service, installation, customer service and sales. She is also the National Chair of CANASAs Central Station Committee, and is a Director of the Security Industry Alarm Coalition (SIAC). Rick Florio is a Ryerson graduate in Electrical Engineering. His experience includes national sales and application engineering. Currently Rick is Sales Manager at Pentair Thermal Management. His role includes promoting various cables/control systems to engineering consulting firms, contractors, and end users. Rick interacts with Authorities Having Jurisdiction in the interpretation of national and provincial codes & standards. Rick s varied experience has included commercial construction, electrical and mechanical engineering, and technical and sales work in the buildings and fire safety fields. A member of CFAA for 20 years, Rick has been on the Board of Directors for four years. He is presently on the CFAA Industry Affairs Committee. He also serves as a member of CSA Committees, and is a member of the S.F.P.E. Ontario Chapter. Rick has been President, and served on the Board of the Canadian Fire Safety Association for 20 years. He has been on the Ontario Building Code Commission, and for 10 years represented the CFSA on ULC S-500. Other work has included the Standing Committee on Fire Protection NBC & NFC ( ), and several terms on City of Toronto Committee of Adjustment. William Kuffner, M.A.Sc., P.Eng, PMP is a senior fire protection engineer with WSP, a global engineering company. He is a professional member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers, a Professional Engineer and a Project Management Professional. Mr. Kuffner provides building and fire code consulting services, evaluates and designs fire alarm and security systems, fire protection systems, fire proof and fire stop systems and conducts fire and evacuation modeling.
5 Paul Latreille, Paul was the branch manager of Leber/Rubes Inc. in Ottawa - a fire protection and building code consulting engineering firm for 16. Paul Latreille was also the Manager of the Fire, Life Safety, and Security group at Zenix/GENIVAR prior to joining Secur Fire/Regional Life Safety as a Partner in October Paul s entire 28 year career has been focused on fire protection, life safety and security. He has been a member of the executive of the CFAA, the SFPE, and the CFSA. He has taught Fire Protection and Sprinkler design at Algonquin College, has been a past member of the NBC sub-committee on fire alarm systems. Glenn Somerton P.Eng. CBCO is a Senior Code Specialist with Morrison Hershfield s Code and Life Safety Group. Prior to joining MH in January 2015, Glenn had a 30 year career with the City of Ottawa, the last 14 as the Program Manager, Permit Approvals (Large Buildings). He has extensive experience in the review of all aspects of the Building Code, including considerable experience in the evaluation of alternative solution and presentations to the Bu8ildinG Code Commission. He has also attained the designation as a Certified Building Code Official from the Ontario Building Officials Association. Eric Vaillancourt, ing., P.Eng., LEED AP BD+C is an associate and senior electrical engineer with Pageau Morel, a specialised electromechanical engineering firm. With over 17 years of experience in building design, Eric is involved in multiple fire alarm projects at various stages such as investigation, code reviews, design, commissioning and testing, and construction supervision. He has also worked on fire alarm projects with voice communication, special fire alarm applications, and security systems with mag-lock devices. Eric is a Director for the CFAA NCR Chapter. Jean-Philippe Turcot is a College Maisonneuve graduate. His experience includes; field technician and area sales manager. Currently JP is Eastern Canada Sales Manager at Pentair Thermal Management (formerly Tyco Thermal Controls). His role includes promoting various cables/control systems to engineering consulting firms, contractors, and end users. JP interacts with Authorities Having Jurisdiction in the interpretation of national and provincial codes & standards. JP s varied experience has included commercial construction, electrical and mechanical engineering, and technical and sales work in the buildings and fire safety fields. He has been a member with the CFAA for 3 years and a member of OTPQ for 7 years.
6 Will Loach is a University of Toronto graduate in Materials Science & Engineering. Currently Product Manager for Fire-Rated Wiring with Pentair Thermal Management, his experience also includes four years as Ontario Sales Manager for commercial heat-tracing products with Pentair and approximately ten years in the wire & cable industry. Paul Jewett is a Corporate Trainer for Mircom Technologies Ltd. He has been actively involved in fire alarm inspection and service for over 30 years, specializing in large hotels and hospitals. Paul is a qualified CFAA instructor and has presented courses for Seneca Collage and participated in working groups for ULC standards. He is a member of the CFAA Board of Directors and registered technician since MODERATOR Peter Hallinan, Troy Life Safety and Vice President of the CFAA NCR Chapter, will be the Event Moderator. PRODUCT SHOWCASE Registration at the CFAA Technical Seminar includes admittance into the Product showcase. 7 LOCATION Carleton University is hosting the 2015 National Capital Region Chapter Technical Seminar. It is located at 1125 Colonel By Drive, Building #19, Residence Commons Conference Level 2 FENN Lounge. A Campus Map can be found on the Carleton University website DIRECTIONS Via Highway 417 (runs east/west through the centre of the City of Ottawa) Exit Highway 417 (also called the Queensway ) at Bronson Avenue. Follow Bronson Avenue south approximately 2 kilometres. The campus entrance will be on the right at the intersection of Bronson and Sunnyside Avenue. Via Highway 416 Hwy 416 connects Hwy 401 (interchange near Prescott, Ontario) to Hwy 417. Follow Hwy. 416 to Hwy. 417 (East). Follow Hwy. 417 (the Queensway ) and exit at Bronson Avenue.
