4 Course Description The is a 2 day course designed for individuals with responsibilities as a Laser Safety Officer. This unique course reviews the requirements relating to laser safety in Canada as outlined in the updated ANSI Z136.1 (2014) Safe Use of Lasers. The course will provide a solid background for an administrative laser safety program. Course tools allow participants to develop and maintain excellence in laser safety program at their own facility. Content includes: Laser physics and how lasers work Types of laser devices Laser hazards beam and non beam hazards Canadian legislative requirements, international and ANSI laser standards Laser safety program elements Risk assessment of laser hazards Control methods for laser hazards including entrance controls and laser measurements Inspections, audits and laser incident investigation analysis methods Laser accidents and case studies Class discussions, and exercises supplement training materials. No pre requisites required for course. Case studies will be chosen based on participant backgrounds. 4

INSTRUCTOR BIOGRAPHY LIZ KRIVONOSOV, BASc (Chem Eng), DIH, PEng, CIH, ROH is currently President of KRMC Krivonosov Risk Management Consultants Inc. The firm specializes in risk management of hazardous materials such as biohazards, radioactive materials, chemical safety, laser safety and general laboratory safety issues. Liz has developed laser safety programs, audited existing programs and provided laser safety training for Laser Safety Officers and users. KRMC Inc. laser safety clients represent a wide variety of industrial sectors including universities, hospitals, manufacturing. Prior to forming her own company, Liz was the designated Laser Safety Officer at Ryerson University where she developed and implemented the university s first laser safety program. Liz also worked at the University of Toronto for almost 20 years leading her team as the Manager, Environmental Protection Services (Hazardous Materials). Liz is currently a guest lecturer at the University of Toronto s Department of Medicine, Masters Degree Program in Public Health (Occupational Hygiene) on laser safety and ionizing radiation control. She is an invited speaker to the 2015 International Laser Safety Conference (ILSC) : Medical Sessions, speaker at the CRPA 2015 Winnipeg conference and coauthor at a session at the 2015 International Occupational Hygiene Association conference in London, UK. Liz was also trainer at the 2015 Canadian Radiation Protection Association Conference in Winnipeg, where KRMC was also chosen as the course provider for its Laser Safety Workshop. Liz received her BASc in Chemical Engineering and Diploma in Industrial Health both from the University of Toronto. Liz is a Professional Engineer in Ontario and BC. For over 20 years, she has been accredited by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (CIH ) and as a Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) by the Canadian Registration Board of Occupational Hygiene. She was recently appointed Registrar to the CRBOH. She is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Laser Safety Institute of America, Health Physics Society and is past Secretariat to the Board of Directors for the Canadian Radiation Protection Association.
