The McColl School was accredited by the AACSB in Today, the McColl School is focused on providing one of the most rigorous and applied undergraduate and graduate business programs in our region, as well as customized executive education programs, including leadership development programs for physicians and school principals. Graduate enrollment has increased 70% in the past five years. The McColl School focuses on developing leaders. It defines leaders as people who possess the 3 Cs: Competence, Character and Commitment to Community. The 3 Cs are guiding principles throughout the McColl School experience. In addition to demonstrating competence in business strategies and practices, effective leaders demonstrate self-awareness, self-confidence, interact effectively with others, think creatively and learn from experience. The McColl School experience is rich with opportunities to develop leadership ability both inside and outside the classroom. The School s location in Charlotte, North Carolina, offers significant advantages. Charlotte is the No. 2 financial center in the U.S. and is home to headquarters for 19 Fortune 1000 companies. 5 The active McColl School of Business Alumni Association (MSAA) has more than 1,600 MBA and MSOD graduates who are business and community leaders. Alumni giving to the School has increased five-fold in the past four years. The Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership established a Carolinas Entrepreneurial Hall of Fame in Inductees have included Jim Goodnight, Ralph Ketner, Leon Levine and Jerry Richardson. Perhaps one of the biggest building blocks within the McColl School s entrepreneurial foundation lies within the Entrepreneurial Leadership Circle (ELC), a group that was founded by Mr. McColl and the late President Billy O. Wireman in the early 1990s. It is a network of established entrepreneurs in the Charlotte region that provides support to the MBA students at the McColl School by judging business plans and classroom presentations, for example, and by funding scholarships in excess of $30,000 each year. The group also hosts various events throughout the year. McColl faculty offer a wealth of professional experience and teaching expertise at distinguished colleges and universities across the country. While they also have significant management experience, both in large and companies, their primary focus is on creating a transformational experience for their students. Ninety percent of our undergraduate and graduate classes are taught by full-time faculty. We pride ourselves in knowing students as individuals. Indeed, students, faculty, staff, and the community come together at the McColl School to form a collaborative place of ideas and to develop individual leadership abilities. Some 3000 people came to the School s campus to participate in discussions of the most timely of topics. Other strengths of the School include: CEO Forum: An invitation only forum for CEOs of mid-size to larger companies who come on campus for four half day sessions each year to discuss topics of their own choosing with McColl School faculty. Executives in Residence: McColl School Executives-In-Residence are professionals who have established reputations as effective leaders, have substantial experience to share, and are willing to share that experience with our students. Leadership students meet with each executive in small discussion groups. In addition, these executives are available for one-on-one meetings as requested by the students. Leaders-in-Action: The BB&T Distinguished Leaders in Action Speaker Series brings to campus organization leaders from a wide-range of for-profit and not-for-profit entities who share their perspectives on leadership, character, and commitment to community. Coaching Program: The McColl School is associated with approximately 60 coaches who work with our students on a pro-bono basis. Each leadership student meets one-on-one with one of these professional coaches. These coaches include executives and professional coaches who volunteer their time to work with our students. Leadership Forum: An integral part of the EMBA program is the Leadership Forum speaker series. Each week prominent executives interact with participants to share their perspectives on leadership, success and what it takes to make a difference in today s world. 5
