2 Welcome Letter It is my honor and pleasure to welcome you to the D Amore-McKim School of Business at Northeastern University. Since its founding in 1922, the College of Business Administration has been on a tremendous trajectory. We have pushed ahead on all aspects of our mission: teaching, research, outreach, and impact on business practice. The College s name changed in September 2012 when we received a $60 million naming gift from alumni Rich D Amore and Alan McKim. These business visionaries saw what I saw when I decided to join Northeastern in July Our business school model with its focus on experiential learning, globalization, technology-enabled learning, and a rich mix of foundational and translational research is extremely well-suited to meet the evolving needs of today s business student and our society at large. The D Amore-McKim School of Business is committed to experiential learning. Our undergraduate students transition seamlessly from their classes to applied work environments in our world-renowned co-op program. They also contribute to business-focused organizations such as IDEA, Northeastern s venture accelerator. Our students develop a sophisticated and contextual understanding of business concepts that allows them to add immediate value. Our graduate students benefit from experiential learning opportunities as well, such as the six-month corporate residency program in the full-time MBA, global residencies in the Executive MBA, international field study courses in the Online MBA, and innovation projects in the High Tech MBA. It is no surprise that our graduates secure top jobs, and like our benefactors Rich D Amore and Alan McKim, go on to create and lead successful global organizations. This success is reflected in our program rankings: Bloomberg Businessweek has ranked our undergraduate program #1 in internships for seven consecutive years, and in 2012 U.S. News & World Report named our full-time MBA program #5 in the U.S. for job placement of MBA graduates. While our students earn a high personal return on their educational investment, the D Amore-McKim School of Business is also committed to creating value for our economy and society at large. We pride ourselves on conducting research and outreach activities that address the world s most pressing issues, such as corporate governance, sustainability, growth and development in emerging markets, social entrepreneurship and health care management. We have a top-20 international business program and offer numerous opportunities for our students to study and complete co-ops abroad. In addition, we have leading research centers focused on emerging markets, global leadership, and global innovation management. Our faculty are thought leaders in their academic fields and in business practice. Many edit leading academic journals and lead professional organizations, while others serve on corporate boards and actively consult and teach at leading organizations through our executive education programs. In all cases, they are fully committed to student learning and success and in advancing state-of-the-art business research and practice. While we take pride in developing the next generation of business innovators and entrepreneurs, we also consider ourselves educational innovators and entrepreneurs. For example, we are one of the leading providers of online graduate business programs in the country. 4 Curriculum The practice-oriented curriculum of Northeastern University s Online Master of Science in Finance explores a comprehensive range of relevant financial topics. Designed to serve the needs of working professionals in the finance field, this 30-credit-hour program which includes six core courses and four electives can be completed entirely online in as few as 16 months. You may also expand your scope of study by selecting from two tracks: Corporate Finance Track Study the sourcing and allocation of capital in an organization to achieve an overall objective, such as maximizing shareholder value for a for-profit entity. Here are some of the many benefits of online learning with Northeastern: Flexible scheduling The program is based on an asynchronous model that allows you to work at your own pace while meeting deliverable deadlines. Your instructors will outline course requirements so you know what to expect and how to prepare. Intimate classes We keep our sections to fewer than 20 students. Our small class sizes help to foster a peer network that will encourage debate and challenge you. Accessible resources Resources such as the online library and access to current course materials are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, all year long. Individual attention Your section instructors will engage and challenge you. In addition, they are available to provide support and coaching on a personal level that can be difficult to find in other MSF programs. Admission Requirements Undergraduate degree from an accredited institution of higher learning. GPA score of 3.0 or higher on a scale of 4.0. All official transcripts of prior undergraduate and/or graduate work reflecting degree conferred by an accredited institution (International transcripts must be translated and include a WES or CED evaluation). Currently employed with five (5) years of demonstrated professional experience in participation and leadership of work teams, financial and/or budgetary responsibility, and management of staff in a direct reporting relationship.* Current resume English language fluency Two (2) letters of professional recommendation (cannot be from friends and/or relatives). Application essay Non-refundable $100 application fee. *Candidates who do not meet the minimum work requirements, but are approaching five (5) years of professional work experience, may still apply.
