We represent and support our member hospices and work with them and other organisations to develop and improve hospice and palliative care throughout the UK and across the world. Job description Purpose of role and key deliverables To provide a high quality HR service to all staff and support to line managers on their people management responsibilities. To support the Head of HR on a range of strategic HR activity and policy work. Key tasks and responsibilities 1. To support line managers on recruitment activity and to champion a revised recruitment process. 2. To undertake the administration and processes necessary to ensure a proactive, customer focused, high quality and effective HR service. To improve existing procedures where necessary and to ensure these processes remain user friendly and efficient. nsuring all paperwork and data is accurate and effectively stored in line with data protection and for clear access. 3. To be the lead in the ongoing use of the Access SelectHR database to support people management processes and the collection of HR related data. To work with the Head of HR to advise managers in the role as line manager and as they carry out people management responsibilities. Support the Head of HR to develop their people management abilities through regular meetings, line manager workshops and other initiatives. 5. Support the Head of HR with the implementation of a new training plan and performance management cycle for the charity. 6. Support the Head of HR in the ongoing review and development of HR policies, procedures and processes. Keep up to date with external developments in HR practice and employment to inform changes to policy and procedure and for use as appropriate when advising line managers. 7. To be active in supporting the development and maintenance of a culture that promotes equality and values diversity, through implementation of appropriate systems and communication with staff. 8. Support the Head of HR with ongoing work related to staff engagement and services around staff care and benefits. 9. Any other task that is reasonable for such a role and in line with the experience and ability expected of the role. This role profile is not exhaustive and is subject to review in conjunction with the post holder and according to future changes/developments in the service.
3 Person Specification Importance: = essential D= desirable Assessment: S = shortlisting/ I = Interview/ T= test or assessment xperience, knowledge and role related requirements Criteria xperience in an HR administrative capacity and initiating, developing or maintaining manual and computerised HR related processes and systems. Ideally some experience of advising managers on HR policy or procedure CIPD qualified or working towards this with the overall understanding of the work of modern HR and how to apply the relevant theory and best practice into day to day work. General understanding of key elements of employment law and the way it impacts on day to day HR activity and it s implications on broader strategic considerations Professional commitment to the principles of diversity and equality of opportunity with a practical understanding of how these affect the work of HR. The knowledge of legal implications in this area including the importance of anti-discriminatory practices S S/I Skills and abilities xcellent IT skills, confident in the use of Microsoft Office (especially outlook, word and excel) and the ability to work with databases Ability to maintain and act as the lead champion of the HR database supporting managers and employees in it s use as well as being able to collate and analyse data from it ffective administrative ability to ensure the paper work generated is accurate and of high quality. Able to ensure that the department has the appropriate systems and procedures in place to provide a smooth and proactive HR service to the charity A professional and discreet approach conducive to maintaining the integrity of the department and the sensitive data and information that are part of HR activity A positive and customer service based approach to operational work as well as the ability to act in line with our values: supportive, professional, collaborative, creative and confident S/T I
4 Core Competencies Criteria To have excellent interpersonal, verbal presentation and written communication skills with the ability to answer complex written and verbal enquiries with clarity, tact and diplomacy. To be self motivated, with the ability to work alone, as a flexible member of a team and collaboratively across the organisation to proactively engage colleagues on projects and HR initiatives. To be responsive to colleagues and work with them to interpret mutual needs and deliver expected outcomes for the benefit of the charity Strong organisational skills to manage a varied range of projects and tasks, to prioritise effectively and to ensure deadlines are met whist working accurately in pressured circumstances and using own initiative. 5 Terms and Conditions of appointment Contract Salary Probation period Notice period Work Pattern Pension Life Assurance Simplyhealth Scheme Childcare vouchers Cycle to work scheme Season ticket loan Holiday Location To cover up to a years maternity leave but subject to the intentions of the existing postholder. Two months notice will be given if the contract is going to end earlier 28,500 per annum The probationary period is three months Two months Full time, 35 hours per week You will be auto enrolled into our pension scheme which is at 4%. Further contributions can be made to the scheme and Hospice UK will match contributions of up to 7% of your gross salary Is provided upon start date at three times salary, subject to acceptance by our insurers A cash plan scheme, which provides payments towards everyday healthcare treatments for example dental, optical etc. up to a policy limit. All employees will be covered under level two of the scheme We offer childcare vouchers Loaning of a cycle via a salary sacrifice scheme An interest free loan is available 25 days per year. The leave year runs from 1 January to 31 December The post holder will be based at Hospice House, Britannia Street, London, WC1X 9JG
