Reciprocal actions Vocablulary and verbs from Spanish 3 Demonstrate mastery of preterite conjugation by conjugating and using all 3 types of verbs in a variety of written

Demonstrate mastery of the irregular preterite by identifying the irregularities, conjugating correctly and using the irregular preterite in a variety of written and conversational activities Correctly utilize verbs ending in car, -gar zar in the preterite tense in a variety of written and conversational activities, identifying the spelling change in the yo form. Demonstrate understanding of the basic uses of the imperfect tense by conjugating a variety of verbs and utilizing them correctly in a variety of written and conversational activities to express actions occurring in the past, or to describe situations. Utilize the irregular imperfect verbs ir, ser, and ver to write and talk about childhood activities and events. Use reflexive pronouns se and nos to express reciprocal action with verbs in the present, preterite, and imperfect tenses. Demonstrate mastery of Spanish 3 vocabulary by identifying, defining, and translating vocabulary in worksheets and drills. Unit 2 Uses of the Imperfect Tense, Explore more irregular preterite verbs Approximate Pacing 2-3 weeks Other uses of the imperfect tense: Descriptions (Review) Time, weather, Physical, Mental, Emotional States Introduce comparison of the preterite and imperfect tenses. Irregular preterite verbs oir, leer, creer, destruir Vocabulary to talk about natural disasters/extreme weather, rescues, and to tell a story Explain the usage of the imperfect tense in describing people, things, and events Use the imperfect tense to describe a situation that occurred in the past in terms of time, weather, and events in a variety of written and conversational activities. Use the imperfect tense to talk about the physical, mental, and emotional states of people. Unit 3 More Irregular preterite, Imperfect Progressive Master conjugation of irregular preterite verbs venir, poner, decir, traer Forming the imperfect progressive tense Vocabulary for accidents, body parts, and medical treatment Conjugate and use the irregular preterite verbs venir, poner, decir, traer in a variety of written and conversational activities. Form the imperfect progressive by combining a form of estar in the imperfect with the present participle to express an action that was occurring over an extended time in the past. Relate the imperfect progressive to the pesent progressive tense. Combine the imperfect progressive with a preterite clause to discuss what was taking place when another event/action interrupted it. Demonstrate understanding of proper sentence structure when using an object pronoun with the imperfect

Unit 4 Preterite of IR stem changing verbs, Reflexive verbs with emotional states Master the conjugation of the preterite of ir stem changing verbs Review reflexive verbs, explore the uses of reflexives with emotional states Vocabulary for sporting events, contests, and feelings Identify the irregularity in and conjugate a variety of - ir stem changing verbs in the preterite. Use these irregular verbs in a variety of written and conversational activities. Review the use of reflexive verbs, and differentiate between those used to talk about actions one is performing, and those used to describe a change in emotional states. Identify and categorize reflexive verbs according to these two different usages. Conjugate and utilize reflexive verbs in a variety of written and conversational activities. Unit 5 Verbs with Indirect object pronouns, Present perfect tense, Review Indirect object pronouns Explore usage of indirect object pronouns with aburrir, doler, encantar, fascinar, gustar, importar, interesar, molestar, parecer, quedar Introduce the present perfect tense Vocabulary to talk about movies/making movies Use the personal a+ a noun/pronoun with an indirect object pronoun in order to emphasize or clarify who is being talked about Demonstrate mastery of using indirect object pronouns with gustar type verbs by utilizing them in a variety of written and conversational activities. Suggested activities for each unit include: Students will conjugate all verbs in chapter Students will write questions to ask each other based on concepts/vocabulary taught. Students will develop a short skit, or act out the video script from the text. Students will use sentence strips to demonstrate proper word order by combining the words to make a sentence, and using the collected sentences to make a story. Students will translate and read passages to build vocabulary skills. These passages can come from the text, or other resources. Students will write a variety of sentences to build writing strength. Each full chapter will culminate in a writing exercise of at least 2-3 paragraphs in the target language that pulls together the concepts learned in the units. Students will write a progressive story in groups, with each group adding a paragraph. Projects with oral presentations based upon chapter vocabulary. Games to practice vocabulary, grammar, or conversational skills Songs to help memorize vocabulary

Write a short biography of a person in their family, or a person in the community Write letters to Spanish speaking pen pals Write and act out a Telenovela based on chapter theme Assessment: For each unit there will be vocabulary and grammar quizzes as needed. Design a Webquest for fellow students based on the cultural theme for the Practice online with phschool.com web activities. Research and design a lesson to be presented to the class to teach the concepts being taught in the Make a podcast for fellow students. Culturally based readings/stories in English at a grade appropriate level which enhance understanding of other cultures. Speakers from other countries who will share their stories about life in other cultures, and their immigration experiences. Make a photo album and a synopsis of a fictional trip to a Spanish speaking country. Write a blog in Spanish about the cultural themes in the text.
