1 Course Title: Spanish III Course Number: NM RISD Open to grades: 9-12 Credit: One unit Prerequisite: Successful completion of Spanish I and II with a grade of 80% or above or a significant demonstration of proficiency in written and oral Spanish. Teacher approval required to enroll in this class. COURSE DESCRIPTION Spanish III continues building on the themes and content of Spanish I and II. The student s previous knowledge of Spanish will be enhanced with the textbook activities, projects, classroom activities and the use of Spanish in daily activities at school and out of school. Performance Standards for Modern, Classical and Native Languages are met by this curriculum. COURSE OBJECTIVES: A. Communicate in Languages Other Than English 1.1: Students engage in conversation, provide and obtain information, expresses feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions 1.2: Students understand and interpret written and spoken language on a variety of topics. 1.3: Students present information, concepts and ideas to an audience of listeners or readers on a variety of topics. B. Gain Knowledge And Understanding of Other Cultures 2.1: The students demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between The practices and the culture studied 2.2: The students demonstrate and understanding of the relationship between the Products and the perspectives of the culture studied.

Connect With Other Disciplines and Acquire Information 3.1: Students reinforce and further their knowledge of other disciplines through the foreign language. 3.2: Students acquire information and recognize the distinctive viewpoints that is only available through the foreign language and its culture. D. Gain Insight Into The Nature Of Language And Culture 4.1: Students demonstrate understanding of the nature of language through comparison of the language studied and their own. 4.2: Students demonstrate understanding of the concept of culture through Comparisons of the cultures studied and their own. E. Participate In Multilingual Communities At Home And Around The World 5.1: Students use the language both within and beyond the school setting. 5.2: Students show evidence of becoming life-long learners by using the Language for personal enjoyment and enrichment COURSE MEASUREMENT: The students in this class will complete listening, speaking, writing and reading activities with a minimum of 60% proficiency to receive credit for this course. Nine weeks grades are based on daily activities, which include oral, writing, reading and listening. Another part of the nine-week grade will consist of vocabulary tests, grading period exams, chapter and unit tests and maintaining a notebook.
