1 This tutorial is meant to help guide you through the process of logging into a computer and then logging into the Student Virtual Lab for assistance. It will walk you through the entire process of logging in to get assistance and then logging back out after receiving assistance. 1. From the start screen press Ctrl + Alt + Delete. 2. The CPCC Acceptable Use Policy for College Technologies will show. 3. Click OK at the bottom of the policy to access the login screen. 4. Enter your CPCC username in the top input box User name. 5. Enter your CPCC password in the bottom input box Password. 6. Click the arrow to the right of the password field. P a g e 1 13

2 7. The default desktop will appear. 8. In the taskbar (bottom-right corner of desktop) rightclick the Citrix Receiver icon. 9. Click Open on the menu that appears. P a g e 2 13

3 10. The Add Account window will open. 11. In the input box, type remote.cpcc.edu and click, Next. 12. Citrix will ask to make changes to your computer to optimize access to Store. Click Yes P a g e 3 13

4 13. Citrix will tell you that your account has been successfully added. Click Finish to close box. 14. The Citrix Receiver login box will open.se and the Citrix Receiver login box will open 15. In the Username field enter your student username 16. In the Password field enter your student password 17. In the Domain box, click the drop-down arrow and click on lab.cpcc.edu 18. 5 19. The login prompt screen will close and the Citrix Receiver window will open and will show an icon for the Windows 7 with Office Click this icon. 20. This window will initially appear. 21. After connecting and loading, the virtual desktop will appear. P a g e 5 13

6 NOTE: Once you are logged into the virtual lab desktop, feel free to get acquainted with the software options. The virtual lab provides many of the same options that are available in any computer lab. Users have the ability to access web browsers such as Internet Explorer and Firefox, create and edit documents with Microsoft Office, and also enjoy music and videos with Windows Media Player. 22. On the left side of the desktop, double-click the Virtual Lab Assistance icon. 23. Internet Explorer will open and will begin to load the virtual lab s website. 24. Once the virtual lab s website is loaded, you will see this window. 25. Enter your first name, last name, and address into the appropriate boxes. 26. Enter your phone number in the Number box (The Country/Region field should be left at 1 unless your phone number is from another country). 27. Enter a short description of what you need help with. 28. Once all of your information is entered, click the Submit button. P a g e 6 13

7 29. The remote support window will load and you will be put into a queue to receive assistance. 30. Your number in the queue will be shown and there will be a short wait for an agent to assist you. (If no agent is available to assist you, go to Step 41) 31. When an agent is ready to assist you and begins to chat you will see the following: The online student virtual lab is an online chat service to assist student with basic questions about how to perform a task within any of the Microsoft products (ex. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) This chat will also help answer basic questions about an assignment unless it is a test or quiz. Tutoring is not offered with this online chat, if tutoring is your desire please contact the Academic Learning Center at P a g e 7 13

8 32. You may then begin to chat with the agent by typing in the input box. 33. When you are done chatting with the agent and are ready to leave the session, click the Leave Session button. 34. You will get a prompt asking if you want to leave the session; select Yes. P a g e 8 13

9 35. You will be asked if you want to save the chat log for the session. If you do not want to save it, select No and go to Step 37. If you would like to save the chat log then select Yes. 36. If you select Yes, a Save Chat As window will open. You will be able to change the name of the chat, where the chat is saved, and the format in which it is saved. 37. Once the chat session is saved, the support session will close and you will be prompted to take a survey. 38. Once you complete the survey, click the Submit button. P a g e 9 13

10 39. A feedback confirmation window will appear thanking you for taking the survey. You may then close the window by ckicking the X in the upper right corner. 40. You will then be returned to your Virtual Computer s desktop. (To exit the virtual desktop and Citrix, go to Step 44) 41. If no agent is available or if you enter the virtual lab when the lab is closed you will be asked to leave a message in the text box. An agent will either call or you when they are next available to assist you. P a g e 10 13

11 42. Once you submit your message, Internet Explorer will ask you if you want to close the tab, select Yes. 43. You will be taken back to your virtual computers desktop. 44. To log out of Citrix and then close it, click the arrow at the top-middle of the screen and a menu will drop down. P a g e 11 13

12 45. Click the Disconnect option on the drop down menu. 46. You will get a prompt telling you that disconnecting will leave the virtual desktop running. Click OK. 47. You will then be taken back to the Citrix Receiver window. Click the arrow next to your name and a drop down menu will open. P a g e 12 13

13 48. On the drop down menu, click Log Off. 49. Close the window by clicking the X on the upper right corner. 50. You will now be back at your default desktop. P a g e 13 13
