3 TEST REPORT Rendered to: HDG, INC. 209 Tidwell Drive Alpharetta, Ga Report No.: Test Date: 11/07/ /11/2020 Report Date: 09/03/ General Information 1.1 Product Deck Ledger Support Brackets 1.2 Project Summary ICC NTA, LLC was contracted by HDG, INC. to evaluate their Deck Ledger Support Brackets in accordance with ASTM D7147 to establish maximum ultimate loads. Results obtained herein are tested values and were secured by using the designated test method(s). Testing was conducted at ICC NTA's facility in Nappanee, IN. 1.3 Product Description HDG, Inc Deck Ledger Brackets Deck Ledger Support Brackets: 4-in. Queen (H1-GQ) 4-in. Queen Splice (H1-GQS) Deck Corner Bracket (H2-GCL and H2-GCR) Produced in a Manufacturing facility using the following Materials: 12 Gauge cold-formed steel 1.4 Qualifications ICC NTA in Nappanee, IN has demonstrated compliance with ISO/IEC and is consequently accredited as a Testing Laboratory. 4 1.5 Product Sampling A representative of ICC NTA visited HDG, INC.'s facility located in Alpharetta, GA on November 15, 2019 and again on July 25-26, 2020 and selected the materials for the testing reported herein. All test specimens were supplied by HDG, INC. See photograph in Appendix A for typical sampling mark. 1.6 Witnessing A representative of HDG, INC. witnessed remotely, the testing of ASTM D7147 Modified Lateral Test of HDG s bracket assembly containing the Queen Bracket, Deck Corner Bracket and H7-GJR Corner Bracket on June 8 th through June 11 th of Conditions of Testing Unless otherwise indicated, all testing reported herein was conducted in a laboratory set to maintain temperature in the range of 73.4 ± 3.6 F and humidity in the range of 50 ± 5% RH. 5 3.0 ASTM D7147 Direct Load Capacity Test: Vertical 3.1 General The results from this testing provided load data for metal devices used for wood to wood, wood to concrete, or wood to steel connections. These devices are commonly referred to as Joist hangers, and connect joist, beams, and girders together. 3.2 Test Specimens In the testing conducted herein, 3 identical bracket assemblies comprised of two brackets connected to a joist and a header were subjected to vertical loading. Testing consisted of a 4 Queen Bracket, a 4 Queen Splice bracket and a Deck Corner bracket. Each Support was made of 12 Gauge Cold-Formed Steel and installed in the wood members using lag screw or lag bolts per manufactures installation instructions. Each wood member was verified to have a moisture content not less than 11 percent before construction of the test setups. In addition, each member had its specific gravity taken, results can be seen in Appendix C. 3.3 Test Setup and Procedure Each Deck Ledger support bracket was tested in both vertical directions, Upward (uplift) and downward (gravity). Supports were tested in pairs in accordance with figure 1 from ASTM D7145 which can be seen in Appendix B. The test setup consisted of a joist supported between two headers by the support bracket that was being tested. The minimum header length was 18-in. The joist length was of adequate size to prevent contact between the joist hangers and any other material other than that of the header and joist. For downward load capacity, an initial preload was used to seat the brackets. The initial preload did not to exceed 20% of the ultimate load. For Uplift capacity test a preload was not applied. The Joist was loaded through a load transfer block at a uniform rate between 0.03 and.20 in./min. For all tests, the ultimate load shall not be reached in less than 5 minutes. The basic test setup can be seen in Photo 2. Supports were added to the setup as seen in Photo No. 9 to eliminate the specimens wood members from pulling apart during testing. Deviations from the standard include: None. 3.4 Test Results Test Results can be seen in the tables below for each bracket. Additional data can be found in appendix C for each test. 8 4.0 Modified ASTM D7147 for Lateral Load Capacity 4.1 General The results from this testing provided load data for metal devices used for wood to wood, wood to concrete, or wood to steel connections. These devices are commonly referred to as Joist hangers, and connect joist, beams, and girders together. 4.2 Test Specimens The specimens tested and reported herein are HDG Deck Corner Brackets and an assembly containing the Queen Bracket (H1-GQ) and Deck Corner Bracket (H2-GCL,H2-GCR). Photos of the assembly can be seen in Appendix A. Each Support was made of 12 Gauge Cold-formed Steel and installed in the wood members using lag screw or lag bolts per manufactures installation instructions. Each wood member was verified to have a moisture content not less than 11 percent before construction of the test setups. In addition, each member had its specific gravity taken before testing, results can be seen in Appendix C. 4.3 Test Setup and Procedure The Deck Ledger support bracket was tested in combination with the queen support bracket and bolted to a header and joist to simulate a deck. The test setup was done per section 5.1 of ASTM D7147 but modified to align the tested assemblies so that the test load being applied was lateral or in-line with the bracket. The initial preload did not exceed 20% of the ultimate load. The header was loaded through a solid bar at a uniform rate between of.20 in./min. For all tests, the ultimate load was not be reached in less than 5 minutes. The basic test setup can be seen in Photo 10. Deviations from the standard include: Test specimens were rotated and tested in the lateral direction pulling apart from the header. 4.4 Test Results Test Results can be seen in the tables below for each bracket assembly.
