1 VIRTUAL DESKTOP CONNECTION GUIDE Virtual Desktop is a virtual version of your staff or student computer, which provides access, from home, to many resources only available at School. These include: My Documents Home Drive Hard Drive (Desktop, Pictures, Music, Videos) Printers Network applications, such as SM Markbook and AmLib This guide contains basic steps for connecting to Virtual Desktop, for Windows and Mac. If you cannot connect after trying these steps, please contact the IT Service Desk on option 1. Click your system to jump to the relevant guide WINDOWS 7 WINDOWS 8.1 MAC OSX

2 WINDOWS 7 1. Click, located in the bottom-left corner of the screen (1.) 2. Type Remote Desktop into the search field (2.) 3. Please wait for search results to display 4. Click the result that reads Remote Desktop Connection (3.) 5. A new window will appear, titled Remote Desktop Connection 6. In the Computer field, please enter abbvd.abbotsleigh.nsw.edu.au:47637 (4.) 7. Click Connect (5.) 8. A window titled Windows Security will appear 9. Click Use another account 10. You will now see a username and password field a. In the top field, enter abss\ followed by your username (E.g. abss\shortalld) (6.) b. In the bottom field, type your password (7.), then press Remember my credentials (8.) and Ok

3 11. A security warning will appear. Click Don t ask me again for connections to this computer (9.) and Yes (10.) 12. A new window will appear. You have now entered Virtual Desktop. a. Note: i. Several loading screens may appear; please wait for these to finish ii. The first time you connect may take 2-3 minutes, but future connections should be quicker 13. Once the loading screens disappear, you will see a computer desktop, just like on your school computer (11.)

4 14. If you see a blue, rectangular bar at the top-middle of the screen, please ignore and do not click (12.) a. Note: The bar will disappear automatically, but will reappear if your mouse moves too close 15. Once you are finished, please click (13.), and then Log Off (14.)

5 WINDOWS Go to the Start Menu (E.g. from the Desktop, click ) (1.) 2. From the Start Menu, type Remote Desktop (2.) Search appears as soon as you start typing. a. Note: Alternatively, you can open the Charms menu, click Search, then type Remote Desktop 3. Click on the search result titled Remote Desktop Connection (3.) 4. A new window will appear, titled Remote Desktop Connection 5. In the Computer field, please enter abbvd.abbotsleigh.nsw.edu.au:47637 (4.) 6. Click Connect (5.) 7. A window titled Windows Security will appear 8. Click Use another account

8 MAC OSX 1. On Mac computers running OSX: 2. Bring up Spotlight Search. This may involve: a. Click the magnifying glass in the top-right corner of the screen. This will open a search field beneath. 3. Type in: Remote Desktop Connection 4. Select Remote Desktop Connection from the search results. a. Note: If you do not have Remote Desktop Connection, you can download it from 5. The Remote Desktop Connection window will appear. a. In the Computer: field, please enter abbvd.abbotsleigh.nsw.edu.au:47637

9 6. Enter your credentials (as below): a. In the User name field, enter abss\ followed by your username (E.g. abss\shortalld) b. In the password field, type your password c. In the Domain field, please enter: abbvd.abbotsleigh.nsw.edu.au: Click Ok 8. A window will appear stating the below. Click Connect 9. A new window will appear. You have now entered Virtual Desktop. a. Note: i. Several loading screens may appear; please wait for these to finish ii.
