1 Millennium Learning Centres How to scan documents you want to edit At some of the Millennium Learning Centres you can use a scanner to save a copy of a document that you can edit. The Centres don t all have the same scanner so please follow the instructions below to assist you in using the different scanners. Use the first set of instructions for scanners 3300 et Scanner 3300 is beige and looks like this: Scanner 3400 has a transparent cover and looks like this: Use the second set of instructions for Scanner Scanner 3500 is all gray with a blue front and looks like this: 1

2 Scanners 3300 and 3400 To scan a document: 1. Open the lid of the scanner and place your document in the top right corner of the glass 2. Press the Scan button (first button on the left in front of the scanner) to open the HP PrecisionScan window HP PrecisionScan Window 3. In number 3, select and click once on MS Word from the Where do you want the scan to go? drop down menu 4. In number 4, click once on the icon besides To output type to open the Change output type window 5. Select the word Text by clicking on it once in the Change the output type of the scan box 6. Click on the Send the scan now button at the bottom of the HP PrecisionScan window The Processing window will open to show that it is sending your scanned document to MS Word. Be patient, this will take a few seconds. 2

3 Scanners 3300 and 3400 (continued) Only one page to scan: 7. In the message box Scan another page into the current document? Click Done if you do not have another page to scan. Your document will appear in MS Word. More than one page to scan: 7. Remove the first page and place the second page on the scanner glass 8. In the message box Scan another page into the current document? Click Scan if you have another page to scan 9. Once you are done scanning all pages, click Done in the message box Scan another page into the current document? Your document will appear in MS Word. 10. You can now make the necessary changes in your document To save your document on a diskette: 1. Insert your diskette in the computer 2. Click on File from Microsoft Word s menu bar 3. Slide the mouse down to Save as and click once 4. Select 3 ½ Floppy (A:) in the Save in drop down menu 5. Click on Save in the bottom right corner of the Save as window to save your document on the diskette To print your document: 1. Click on File from Microsoft Word s menu bar 2. Slide the mouse down to Print and click once 3. Click on OK at the bottom of the Print window 3

4 Scanner 3500 To scan a document: 11. Open the lid of the scanner and place your document in the top right corner of the glass 12. Double-click on the Scanner Software icon on the desktop to open the HP Director HP Director 13. Click once on Scan Document 14. In the Scan document window, click in the circle besides Editable Text with Graphic(s) 15. Select and click once on Microsoft Word in the Destination drop down menu 16. Click on the Scan button to bring up the Scanning window 17. Click on Accept at the bottom of this window to save the document in Microsoft Word Only one page to scan: 18. In the message box Scan another page into the current document, click No if you do not have another page to scan Your document will appear in Microsoft Word. 4

In the message box Scan another page into the current document, click Yes if you have another page to scan in this document 20. Click on Accept after each page you scan 21. Once you are done scanning all pages, click No in the message box Scan another page into the current document Your document will appear in Microsoft Word 22.
