1 Welcome to the second annual LaserPerformance Collegiate Cup in Torbole, Italy! We are so thrilled that you are traveling from near and far to participate in this event. The LaserPerformance Collegiate Cup (LPCC), which first took place in 2015, is an international movement to introduce college sailing to university-age students from across the world. LPCC is held at a different venue each year, providing a common meeting place for university-age sailors to learn about the benefits of college sailing that have been highly popular among North American students. Before the event you will participate in a development clinic with top team race coaches to acclimatize you all to the Z420s, venue, and racing style. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to participate in both team and fleet racing to showcase your skills. We also have some great after sailing activities planned so you can get to know one another off the water. We have been working closely with the SailLaser Lake Garda and Circolo Vela Torbole staff to guarantee a top-level experience for you. Special thanks to Jo Buss and Pietro Negri for providing support through 2015 and Enclosed in this packet you will find a schedule of events and sailing instructions. 2 ABOUT LAKE GARDA AND CIRCOLO VELA TORBOLE Circolo Vela Torbole was founded in 1964 and is now one of the most prestigious sailing clubs in Italy. It s based in the north of Lake Garda, known for its fantastic wind conditions. The Peler in the morning blows from the north and can reach up to 30 knots, then after the sun has risen and warmed the mountains, the thermal switches and in the afternoon the wind can reach 25 knots. The Ora (afternoon wind) provides reliable, consistent conditions and blows from the South. This gives you two different thermal winds in one day with a break for lunch. The morning wind provides the perfect setting for intermediate to expert sailors, and the relatively calm southerly breeze in the afternoon sets the stage for beginners. Luckily for those sailing in the 2016 LaserPerformance Collegiate Cup, there will be many opportunities for sailing throughout the day, providing insight- to all participants- into the famous winds of Lake Garda. Circolo Vela Torbole offers a variety of conveniences. Stop by the restaurant for lunch and check out the new menu items that are added daily. Sandwiches and other selections are available for purchase. Lunch and dinner for the LPCC will include a wide range of rice and pasta dishes, as well as meat and fruit options. Circolo Vela Torbole has worked tirelessly to make sure the LPCC is a Clean Regatta which means it will be providing water refill stations and reducing the use of plastic cutlery by at least 70%. In addition to food services, the club offers a roomy storage area for gear, changing rooms, and restrooms. Conveniently located only 15 minutes from Club Hotel La Vela, sailors can enjoy the sights of Lake Garda on their morning commute to the venue and get ready for a great day of sailing at the LPCC! We d like to extend a huge thank you to the host venue for having all of us to their beautiful space and sharing their amenities with us during our stay at the LPCC.

9 Saturday 27 August: 5 FORMAT 7:00 Breakfast at the hotel 8:30 First Warning signal 12:30-15:00 LaserPerformance party, awards, and closing ceremony 5.1 The format for fleet racing will be a round robin consisting of 12 races. 5.2 The format for team racing will be determined by the regatta chair depending on time and conditions. The following possible formats are listed in order of preference: An 8 team round robin potentially followed by top 4 / bottom 4 rounds, and / or final round(s) of four or six. 6 BOATS AND EQUIPMENT 6.1 Z420 s will be provided for all competitors, who shall not modify any boat or cause them to be modified in any way, except that competitors may adjust lines and controls normally adjustable. 6.2 Shroud turnbuckles may be adjusted on the Z420 s. For reference, the base setting is The penalty for infringing instruction 6.1 will be disqualification from all races sailed in contravention of these instructions. 6.4 Competitors shall report all damage or loss of equipment, however slight, to the dock/boat committee immediatly after arriving on shore or to the Race Committee Finish Boat on the water. 6.5 Breakdown consideration will not be given for the failure of knots (except the head of the main when it was determined there was not an opportunity to check it), or loss of cotter pins and rings. 7 RACING AREA The Racing Area will be Lake Garda. 8 THE COURSES 8.1 The course for will be announced orally and taken from the course diagrams on the official regatta notice board. 9 MARKS 9.1 All marks will be round orange balls.

10 10 THE START AND FINISH 10.1 Races will be started by using Appendix S. This changes rule The starting and finish lines will be between a staff displaying an orange flag on the Race Committee boat and an orange mark. 11 THE FINISH 11.1 The finishing line will be between a staff displaying an orange flag on the Race Committee boat and an orange mark. 12 PENALTY SYSTEM 12.1 The regatta will be umpired in accordance with Appendix D. 13 PROTESTS AND REQUESTS FOR REDRESS 13.1 The red flag requirement of RRS 61.1(a) is deleted and when the identity of the protested boat could be uncertain, the boat s sail number shall be included in the hail. Also, failure of a hailed boat to hear the hail shall not, by itself, be grounds for closing the protest. (Changes RRS 61.1(a)) 13.2 A protesting boat shall, at the first reasonable opportunity after finishing, notify both the Race Committee and the protested boat of intent to protest. Failure to do so may be grounds for closing the protest (Changes RRS 63.5) Protest forms are available in the office on the second floor of the sailing center. Protests and requests for redress or reopening shall be delivered there within the appropriate time limit Protests shall be filed within 30 minutes of securing boats to the shore after the race or set of races in which the incident occurred Hearings will be held in the protest room, located at Circolo Vela Torbole, beginning at the time posted Decisions of the Race Committee will be final as provided in Rule SCORING 14.1 The scoring system is as follows: Appendix D races are required to be completed to constitute a series. 15 IDENTIFICATION AND EVENT ADVERTISING 15.1 All competitors shall wear bibs supplied by the organizing authority at all times while afloat, except briefly while changing or adjusting clothing Application of team sponsors will be at the discretion of the organizing authority. 16 PRIZES 16.1 The overall first place team will be awarded the Collegiate Cup trophy The winners will be awarded trophies.

11 17 RIGHTS TO USE NAME AND LIKENESS 17.1 By participating in this event, competitors automatically grant to the Organizing Authority and the event sponsors the right, in perpetuity, to make, use and show, at their discretion, any photography, audio and video recordings, and other reproductions of them made at the venue or on the water from the time of their arrival at the venue, until their final departure, without compensation. 18 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
