The race is a single-handed ocean sailing race without outside routing The regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing and the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea ("COLREGS") 3.3. The ColRegs will be in force from 20 nm after the start till 20 nm before the finish; however they will always apply between sundown and sunrise (night).

4 3.4. The RRS will apply until 20nm after the start and from 20nm to the finish, except at night No national prescriptions will apply 3.6. ISAF - World Sailing OSR (Offshore Special Regulations) Cat 1 Monohull with changes specific to the IMOCA Class will apply 3.7. IMOCA Class Rules and the Notice of Race rules will apply 3.8. No outside weather routing is permitted, except in emergency cases prompted by RC or rescue services 3.9. The SIs will apply The official language of the event is English 4. NOTICES TO / FROM COMPETITORS 4.1. Notices to competitors will be posted on the Calero Marinas website and from 4 April until the start as well on a board located near the Race Office in Marina Lanzarote The official signal mast will be located outside the Race office The Lanzarote Race Office telephone number will be / solotransat@caleromarinas.com Opening hours will be from April 4 from 09:00-14:00 /16:00-18:00 hrs until the start at 14:00 on April 9. The Newport Race Office contact telephone number is and vinnie@sailnewport.org The Race Office may at any time call competitors while moored in Lanzarote via VHF ch 72 and VHF ch 72 in Newport A representative of the Race can be reached during the race via solotransat@caleromarinas.com and for urgent matters via telephone: Competitors are required on a daily basis during the race, either by or sat phone, to update the Race Committee on his progress, state of boat and skipper, weather and any other relevant info Competitors must during the race cooperate with any requests for interviews or information from or via the RC.

5 5. CHANGES TO SIS 5.1. Changes will be posted 8.30hrs on the day of the start In exceptional cases the RC may change SIs during the race. Such changes will be communicated to the boats by , or when expected to be in range, by VHF ch SIGNALS MADE ASHORE 6.1. Signals will be displayed at the flag mast in Marina Arrecife Competitors are requested not to leave the harbour before 11.00hrs on the morning of the start. 7. START TIME 7.1. The scheduled time of the warning signal is on Tuesday 12 April From the preparatory signal ( -5 minutes) onwards, no other person than the skipper shall be on board, except under RC may countdown over VHF ch 72 to the signals. Failure to transmit or receive VHF messages will not be ground for redress. 8. FLAGS 8.1. The RC will hoist an orange flag when the starting vessel and the starting line are in position During the starting procedure the following flags will be used: -10 minutes: warning signal flag : Calero Marinas event flag -5 minutes: preparatory signal flag: P Start: all flags down 9. START AREA 9.1. The start area will be in front of Arrecife. See Appendix 2 for a chartlet Competitors shall report at the starting line vessel either by sailing closely past it and receiving acknowledgement, or via VHF channel ch.72, calling "Race Committee" until acknowledged. 10. COURSES The race is from Lanzarote to Newport On the morning of the start, departure details will be made known.

6 11. ICE EXCLUSION ZONE An exclusion zone will be in force during the entire race excluding the area North of 43 N, between 40W and 55 W. Entrance into this zone will be taken up by the Race Committee and could result in disqualification. 12. START AND FINISH LINES The starting line will be in front of Arrecife between a RC vessel with an orange flag, and a yellow buoy at its port end. (See Appendix 2) The finish will be near Newport and set between Castle Hill light ( N W): a hill-mounted stone lighthouse (Fl R. 6s 12M), and a bearing of 285º M Competitors must call by Satellite Phone 24 hours before finishing, and again 6 hours and 1 hour before finishing at number minutes before finishing competitors must hail "Sail Newport on VHF ch. 09, and will then be asked to switch to VHF ch Competitors must record their own time of passing the finish line in UTC. 13. THE START Starts will be under Rule 26, with the warning signal 10 minutes before the starting signal and a preparatory signal 5 minutes before the starting signal. The RC will advise by VHF ch.72 at least 5 minutes before the warning signal that they plan to start the procedure. RC will use VHF channel ch.72 At the latest at that moment the starting vessel will display an orange flag indicating it is in position and the starting procedure is about to begin A boat may start no later than 6 days after the official start. She will however need to inform the RC and await any special instructions. In case the starting line is not anymore in position such competitor will discuss this issue with the RC If any part of a boat's hull, crew or equipment is on the course side of the starting line during the last minute before the start, and such boat is identified, the RC will attempt to call such boat over VHF channel 72 and such boat will receive a time penalty of 5 hours If a boat crosses the starting line before the last minute and does not return behind the line to repeat the start correctly, she will be disqualified Failure to transmit or receive VHF messages will not be grounds for redress All participants must complete the Start Declaration (see Appendix 1)

THE FINISH The finish line location and description is shown in Appendix No later than 12 hours after finishing each competitor shall provide the RC with his Finish Declaration Form, fully completed and signed (Appendix 4) See SI Art PENALTIES Penalties will be at the discretion of the Jury. They can consist of time penalties or in serious cases disqualification. 16. PROTEST and REQUESTS FOR REDRESS Protest forms are available at the Race Offices Any protest or request for redress must be handed in to the Jury at Newport no later than 24 hours after finishing of the protesting boat A protesting boat shall inform the other party by VHF and the other boat within 6 hours of becoming aware of an incident, and also at that time inform the Jury via stating time, place and a short description of the event The address to be used is solotransat@caleromarinas.com Notices will be made known to competitors at the Marina in Newport.Such notice will also inform of time and location of hearings No red protest flag is required Decisions by the Jury are final 17. SCORING Boats will be scored in the order of finishing after applying redress or penalties To be scored every competitor must complete and sign the finish declaration form ( Appendix 4) declaring he has sailed the race according to all rules as prescribed by these SIs and the Notice of Race The time limit to be scored is 10 days after finish of first boat This limit may be extended by the RC if time penalties are given by the Jury, or in extreme circumstances. 18. SAFETY Any boat retiring must inform the RC immediately via solotransat@caleromarinas.com Every competitor will have an AIS receiver/ transmitter switched on as a minimum from 8.00hrs of the day of the start till mooring in Newport.

8 18.3. VHF shall be continuously switched on in harbour on ch72 in Lanzarote and on VHF ch 09 in Newport At sea after the start and until the finish, VHF shall be continuously switched on to ch Every competitor is required to carry and keep switched on a Yellow Brick tracker from 8.00hrs on the day of the start till mooring in Newport. These trackers will be supplied at no cost by the RC. Competitors must supply the RC with the necessary passwords to use the trackers. Any competitor making use of a supplied tracker will inform the RC thereof no later than the 6 th April. Such tracker will demand a cheque deposit of 825. After finishing the race or after retiring competitors shall return the supplied trackers to the supplier in good shape and via the method provided by the RC All boats shall have Sat C switched on from 8.00hrs on the day of the start till moored in Newport 19. INSPECTION Boats, equipment and skippers may be inspected at any time for compliance with all applicable rules. 20. ADVERTISING Boats are required to display the banners and flags as supplied by the organisers from mooring in Marina Lanzarote till 20 nm after the start and from 20nm off the finish till after the prize-giving in Newport Exact locations of advertising materials will be communicated at the Race Office on arrival in Lanzarote MOORING All boats are to be moored at Marina Lanzarote at their designated spots no later than the Skipper s Brief on the 11 th April All boats are required to be moored at Newport Shipyard, Newport at their designated spots till after the prize-giving. 22. PRIZES Prizes will be awarded to the first three ranked boats. 23. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. The decision to start, to abandon, to retire, to seek shelter etc is fully and solely the competitor's decision. The organisation will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.

9 Competitors are aware of the special nature and risks of a solo transatlantic race. The fact that trackers, AIS devices, communication equipment and communication schedules are required does not in any way make the organising committee or any person involved in running this event in any way liable. By participating in the race or remaining racing the competitor gives up any right to appeal, other than indicated in the RRS. By starting the competitor declares his boat and equipment as well as himself to be seaworthy and fully compliant with respect to all safety rules. Competitors are required to sign Appendix 5 (ref. article 24 of the SI) before leaving Marina Lanzarote. 24. 11 CALERO MARINAS SOLO TRANSAT APPENDIX 2 - START LINE The race is due to start at 16:00 on Tuesday 12 th April, 2016 The start line will be set between the inshore committee boat (identified by an orange flag) and a yellow inflatable buoy. The radio channel for the race will be VHF ch.72. Flags used will as follows: 10-minute warning signal Calero Marinas event flag 5- minute preparatory signal flag: P Start: all flags down

12 CALERO MARINAS SOLO TRANSAT APPENDIX 2 - FINISH LINE 1/2 The Finish Line will be set between Castle Hill light ( N lighthouse (Fl R. 6s 12M), and a bearing of 285º M W), a hill-mounted stone Competitors must call by Satellite phone 24 hours before finishing, and again 6 hours and 1 hour before finishing at number minutes before finishing competitors must hail "Sail Newport on VHF ch. 09, and will then be asked to switch to VHF ch.72. Competitors must record their own time of passing the finish line in UTC. The Traffic Separation Zones that will impact the last of the leg into Newport are well marked on NOAA chart The inbound and outbound lanes to Narragansett bay start 3.25 NM south of the R2 bell (labelled on attachment) and run due south less than 12NM. The Buzzard s Bay separation zone runs NW/SE from the southernmost end of the Narragansett Bay lanes 15NM NW towards Cape Cod. The lane is about 8NM offshore at the north-west end and 16NM offshore at the south-east end. The green lanes inside the bay are the recommended route for all commercial traffic, boats should monitor VHF 16 and 13 for all updates from commercial vessels, and use due caution in these areas. VHF Channels 16 and 9 are hail-only channels in the local area. Leaving all red navigational marks to starboard (R2, R4, R6) will ensure that there will be no water issues. There are currently no exclusions for local wildlife (ie. North Atlantic Right Whales) south of Cape Cod.
