2 What Makes This Race Courageous? It is courageous because of the kids and families that have inspired the race who are steadfast on overcoming cancer and returning to a normal life. It is courageous because of the supporters from the yachting community and beyond that have come together to eradicate children s cancer and support those stricken with it currently. It is courageous because few boats and crew have the guts to toughout 400 miles in one of the longest fresh water races on the planet in the intense autumn winds and seas of Northern Lake Michigan. 3 NOTICE AND CONDITIONS OF RACE 1 RULES 1.1 The Race shall be governed by the current rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS). 1.2 Sailing Instructions and any amendments will be issued from time to time. 1.3 Participating boats shall be outfitted with safety gear as mandated by the USCG. As this is an offshore event, boats are encouraged to comply with the Chicago Mackinac Safety Regulations 2015 as published by the Chicago Yacht Club. 1.4 RRS 52, Manual Power, will not apply. 2 ADVERTISING 2.1 Boats may be required to display advertising chosen by the organizing authority. 3 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY 3.1 The Race is open to any Mono Hull or Multihull boat with inboard auxiliary power. 3.2 Eligible boats may enter by logging on to All information requested for registration must be completed including accurate crew lists. 3.4 Registration is open up until September 11, :00am. A minimum of 5 entries must be received by the entry deadline for this event to be sailed. Should the Race be cancelled due to insufficient participation, 50% of the entry fees will be refunded. The balance will be a charitable donation. 3.5 Late entry request, assuming minimum entries are received, will be accepted after the registration deadline up until 12:00pm September 17, RATINGS & HANDICAPS 4.1 Participating boats must have a current LMPHRF or ORR certificate. 5 FEES 5.1 Required fees are as follows: Boats wishing to enter may do so for a donation equivalent to $50 per crew member paid by the owner of the boat. 5.2 Late entering boats will make an additional donation of $ SCHEDULE 6.1 The Race will commence from each designated starting area at times to be announced as the race start date approaches.

4 7 MEASUREMENTS 7.1 Each boat shall produce a valid rating LMPHRF and ORR certificate. 8 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS 8.1 Sailing instructions will be posted at one month prior to race start. 8.2 Notices to competitors shall be posted at at any time prior to race start. 9 COURSES 9.1 There will be multiple starts from various locations around southern Lake Michigan. The exact location of each start will be determined by the registrant s home port. At a minimum there will be a start in Chicago. The course from each start will be to pass north of North Manitou Island. Boats have the choice to round the island either to port or starboard. Regardless of the direction the boat passes North Manitou Island; all boats must pass through Mainitou passage. Finish will be at a point outside the main breakwater gap at Milwaukee, WI. Exact finish location and finish instructions will be published in the Sailing Instructions. Approximate distance based on the Chicago start is 430nm. 10 PENALTY SYSTEM 10.1 RRS 64.1, will be changed to allow the protest committee to impose penalties other than disqualification for violations. 11 SCORING 11.1 Boats will be scored using two ratings systems. One will use the LMPHRF certificate distance handicap. The second will use the ORR GPH handicap The corrected speed used to determine the rank of the finishers will be: Corrected Speed = distance / corrected time = distance / (elapsed time distance * handicap) 12 BERTHING 12.1 The Organizing Authority encourages all participating boats to enter Louie s Last Regatta held on Saturday September 16 th, Boats shall be responsible for their own berthing arrangement. 13 PRIZES 13.1 Prizes will be determined by the Organizing Authority.

5 14 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY 14.1 Competitors participate in the Race entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the Race. 15 INSURANCE 15.1 Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of $300,000 per incident or the equivalent.
