2 On behalf of the Sussex combined clubs committee I would like to welcome you to the 2014 Sussex regatta. As we all are aware along with many regattas throughout the country alongside the economy entries have been lower than the heights of a few years ago however as we have seen with the economy there are green shoots of optimism which we hope will reflect into entries to the regatta, we have therefore taken a number of actions to help with this. In organising the regatta this year we have taken feed back from a number of competitors from last year and those that have competed previously along with those that may wish to enter = and looked to overcome a number of the issues raised so that we can encourage as many of you as possible to compete in this years event. To encourage early entry we have significantly reduced the entry fee for early bird entries down to 40 and also allowing single day entries. As part of the commitment from the host club Sussex yacht club to this event moorings will be provided at minimal cost to visitors, with day storage ashore for those wishing to stay aboard to enjoy the festivities without having to drag the overnight kit round the race course the next day. Sussex yacht club will also look to accommodate as many visitors as possible on the north side of the canal to enable easy access to the clubhouse. On the race course to encourage those that enjoy their sailing but are worried about being left behind the gentleman s class this year will be run using average lap times. The waters off of Sussex allow us to run a unique regatta with the setting of fair and interesting courses without the challenging tides experienced at other venues. On shore Sussex yacht club will be providing a full range of exciting entertainment for all to enjoy. Weather this is your only regatta of the year or the first of many now is the time to prepare your boat and crew for the 2014 Sussex regatta a sailing event not to be missed. 3 The Organising Authority is the 1.0 ORGANISING CLUBS & SPONSORS 1.1 The Sussex combined clubs regatta is organised by the Sussex Combined Clubs Committee comprising representatives of Brighton Marina Yacht Club, Sussex Yacht Club and Sovereign Harbour Yacht Club with the help and co-operation of the event sponsors. 2.0 RULES 2.1 Racing will be governed by; The Rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the prescriptions of the RYA, the 2014 rules of the IRC, Class Rules for One Design boats including their crew limits (if any) and the sailing instructions issued for the event. 2.2 In the event a boat is disqualified as a result of a protest hearing this shall be scored as DNE 2.3 If there is a conflict between languages the English language will take precedence. 2.4 Where there is a conflict with the Notice of Race, the sailing instructions shall prevail except that neither shall change nor alter a class rule. 2.5 It is our intention to run racing for those boats holding Limited Validity IRC Certificates. 3.0 ADVERTISING 3.1 Boats may be required to display advertising chosen and supplied by the organizing authority. This maybe a sponsors flag and/or decal or sticker on the bow, comprising up to 20% of the hull. 3.2 The event is designated Category C for all classes, In all cases, advertising in conflict with the sponsors of the event will not be permitted. 4.0 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY 4.1 The regatta is open to monohull yachts that hold or are applying for a current IRC 2014 certificate, Limited Validity IRC certificate, OR boats that hold or are applying for a current Sussex Combined Clubs Handicap (SCCH). 4.2 The regatta will be open to multihull yachts subject to a minimum entry of 3 boats prior to the close of the standard entry time limit. 4.3 Eligible boats may enter by either completing the online entry form on the regatta web site, org.uk or by completing the downloadable entry form and sending it to Sussex Regatta, Sussex Yacht Club, Sussex Yacht Club, Brighton Road, Shoreham-by- Sea, West Sussex, BN43 6RE or via e mail to secretary@ sussexyachtclub.org.uk. 4.4 Entries must be received by the date indicated accompanied by the appropriate full payment as shown in article 5 of this notice. 4.5 Incomplete entries will be charged the applicable entry fee valid at the time the entry becomes complete. 4.6 Late entries will be subject to acceptance at the discretion of the Organising Authority. 5.0 FEES 5.1 Fees shall be as follows: 5.2 Early bird entry fee applies to completed entries received before midday 18th March Standard entry fee applies to entries received after midday 18th March 2014 and before midday 14th April Entries received after this time will be considered late entries. 5.4 Late entry fee applies - 80

4 6.0 SCHEDULE 6.1 Racing will take place on: Friday 18th April 2014 Saturday 19th April 2014 Sunday 20th April Racing will be available for the following classes: IRC SCCH Gentleman s SCCH 6.3 Classes may be split depending on entries. Details will be posted on the regatta web site before midday on Wednesday 16th April There is no official registration after entry to this event however it is anticipated that there will be a briefing for all skippers and crew prior to the first race. 6.5 It is anticipated that the following races will be run: 18th April 2014 (2 races): First start 1430 hr local time 19th April 2014 (3 races): First start 1100 hr local time 20th April 2014 (2 races): First start 1100 hr local time 6.6 Maximum of 1 additional race per day may be sailed. 6.7 No start sequence will commence after 15:00 on Sunday 20th April MEASUREMENTS 7.1 Each competing yacht shall produce on demand a current IRC certificate or SCCH handicap. 7.2 Yachts requiring a SCCH handicap shall complete and return the application form before 12:00hrs on Monday, 14th April Yachts entering IRC classes shall provide a copy of their current IRC certificate by Wednesday 16th April The organisers reserve the right to assign a boat to a class within the fleet of entry. 7.5 The organising committee reserve the right to check measurements and compliance with class rules and/or ORC safety regulations. 8.0 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS 8.1 The sailing instructions will be available for download after 12:00 hr on 25th March 2013 at org.uk. 8.2 It shall be the responsibility of the competing yacht to download these instructions. Written copies will not be available from the Organising Authority. 9.0 VENUE 9.1 Racing will take place within an area within 5 miles of the entrance to Shoreham Harbour. 9.2 The regatta will be run from the Sussex Yacht Club 10.0 THE COURSES 10.1 The Courses to be sailed will be described in the sailing instructions PENALTY SYSTEM 11.1 RRS 44.1 shall apply 12.0 SCORING 12.1 The low point system of scoring as laid down in RRS Appendix A4.1 shall apply races are required to be completed to constitute a series a) When fewer than four races have been completed the yacht s series score shall be the total of her race scores. b) When from four to six races have been completed the yacht s series score shall be the total of her race scores less her single worst score c) When more than six races have been completed a yacht s series score shall be the total of her race scores less her two worst scores SAFETY 13.1 All competitors shall conform to the requirements of ORC Category 4, and be issued with a minimum SSSN 10 or equivalent, except that any boats that do not comply fully with the requirements may apply to the organising Authority for written dispensation.

5 14.0 PRIVATE SUPPORT BOATS 14.1 During racing, support boats shall remain more than 100 metres from the course area, except when asked to assist by the Race Committee or safety boats, or assisting a crew in difficulty BERTHING 15.1 Boats shall be kept in their assigned places in Shoreham Harbour Competitors shall obey instructions from members of the Organising Committee and staff of Shoreham Harbour Berthing fees 16.0 HAUL-OUT RESTRICTIONS 16.1 Boats shall not be hauled out during the regatta except with and according to the terms of prior written permission of the Organising Authority DIVING EQUIPMENT AND PLASTIC POOLS 17.1 Underwater breathing apparatus and plastic pools or their equivalent shall not be used around boats between the preparatory signal of the first race and the end of the regatta RADIO COMMUNICATION 18.1 Race control VHF channel shall be CH Except in an emergency a yacht shall not make any radio transmission during the starting sequence PRIZES 19.1 Prizes will be awarded to 1st and 2nd in each class subject to minimum entry of 5 yachts. Additional prizes may be awarded at the discretion of the Sussex Combined Clubs Committee An award will be made to the most successful team from any one club in both IRC and SCCH Divisions. A team will consist of the best 3 scoring boats from one club from within each Division Additional random prizes maybe awarded at the prize giving Dailey prizes maybe awarded to race winners in each class (if the winner is not present, the prize will be awarded to the highest finisher in each class) 20.0 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY 20.1 The sponsors, The Sussex combined clubs and their members are providing this series of races only on the understanding that the clubs, their representatives and/or members bear no responsibility for any loss, damage, injury or inconvenience to the boats or persons howsoever arising directly or indirectly by any accident or wrongful negligent act, default or omission of any member or any person during the Sussex regatta 2014 races and any other related activity. Owners shall acknowledge their responsibility on the official entry form, and draw the attention of their crew to this disclaimer before the start of any race. Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk, see RRS rule 4 Decision to Race INSURANCE 21.1 Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of 2,000, SOCIAL EVENTS & ENTERTAINMENT 22.1 A full and varied programme of social events will be provided by Sussex Yacht Club at both their Southwick and Shoreham clubhouses.
