2 About the city Wrocław is the capital of the Dolnośląskie Province, and is one of the oldest and largest cities in Poland. Its attractiveness is proved not only by its numerous historical monuments, such as the scenic, medieval Main Market Square or the modernistic Centennial Hall that has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site but also by its rich cultural and sports offer. In 2012, Wrocław was one of the host cities of the UEFA Euro 2012 Football Championships and in 2016 it will hold the honourable title of European Capital of Culture. Wrocław is also an important academic centre: over 150 thousand students, from Poland and abroad, study here at the numerous universities. It is sometimes called the Venice of the North due to the abundance of bridges and foot-bridges. The main river in Wrocław is Odra, which is also the second largest river in Poland. Each year it hosts the Odra Cup regatta.

3 About the university Wrocław University of Technology belongs to the largest and best technical universities in Poland. Over 35 thousand students study here at 12 Faculties, the Department of Fundamental Studies, and the three regional branches (in Jelenia Góra, Legnica, and Wałbrzych), under the guidance of 2 thousand academic teachers. In 2012, Wrocław University of Technology was announced the most innovative university in Poland. The route of this year s Odra Cup regatta will lead through the city centre, next to the Wrocław University of Technology campus that extends along the Odra river. The architecture of the campus is a unique combination of tradition and modernism: the presentable Main Building constructed in the 20 th century neighbours the Integrated Students Centre a modern-style building with a distinctive form and austere interiors.

4 About the Odra Cup The history of the rowing eights championships on the Odra river goes back to 1966 when, following the example of the most prestigious rowing competition between Oxford and Cambridge students on the Thames, the two largest universities in the Dolnośląskie region first competed against each other. Since 1997 the competition for the Wrocław University of Technology Rector s Cup has been held regularly. Apart from Wrocław teams, also representations of other Polish cities take part in the competition, including Toruń, Bydgoszcz, Cracov, and Szczecin, as well as foreign teams from such countries as Great Britain, Czech Republic, Germany and Slovenia. The traditional rivalry between Wrocław University of Technology and University of Wrocław has become a permanent part of the event.

6 General information The first 12 teams to submit applications will be provided full accommodation and feeding by the organizers free of charge during the entire event from Friday (24 May) to Sunday (26 May). It is also possible to rent a boat for the competitions free of charge. Such cases need to be arranged individually with the organizer.
