3 Introduction Thermoelectrics Thermoelectrics (TE) is one of the most interesting waste heat utilization technologies and is particularly suited to use in vehicles. Many automotive manufacturers and suppliers have been following the topic for years, developing concepts or contributing to research projects. Developers are, however, faced with the challenge of transferring the technology from the research laboratory to the industrial environment. In addition to a narrowing in the times to series production, TE materials and modules must be developed which are suitable for use in vehicles and exhibit an acceptable cost-benefit ratio. The aim of the conference is to provide an insight into the basics and possibilities of thermoelectrics, the state of research, development, industrialization and application. The focus is on improved, novel TE materials, modules and components, optimum construction and connection technologies as well as innovative concepts and technologies for industrial production. Calculation and simulation methods, optimization strategies and reports on new applications and experience gained on projects complete the range of topics. IAV invites international experts in industry and research to report on their work, research and development results in the field of waste heat utilization and TE, to take part in discussion with a specialist audience and to present their services and products.
