2 State Approved Train-the-Trainers: DHS The Train-the-Trainer courses have been developed and approved by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS), Bureau of Assisted Living (BAL), Division of Quality Assurance (DQA), to offer another option for individuals without the required background to seek approval as CBRF instructors. The courses provide participants with the program knowledge, training skills and curriculum to offer high quality trainings within their own organization. For Medication Administration, Standard Precautions, and Fire Safety, the same required adult education component is offered for all participants at the same time enabling participants to take all three programs. This course is offered on the third day of training from 8:00am to 11:30am. State Approved Train-the-Trainer Savings: One person can take all three or four courses or an organization/agency may send up to three or four people to attend each individual Train-the-Trainer course and receive the savings. 8 Employee and Task Specific Train-the-Trainers: DH Intellectual Disability: Understanding Changes as We Age: 1 Day Course, $299: (Includes instruction, materials, lunch and beverages) May 1, :00am-3:00pm Wausau, WI As people with an intellectual disability live longer, administrators and staff in assisted living environments will be encountering new caregiving challenges. In these environments, questions arise about needed resources and the role of caregiving personnel in helping support individuals as they age. Research indicates individuals with disabilities suffer more undiagnosed and untreated health conditions than the rest of the population. While there are many reasons for this, personnel in group homes, assisted living facilities and adult family homes are in an ideal position to recognize and assess the symptoms of illness and to be effective advocates for the individuals they care for. This one-day train-the-trainer workshop is designed for staff, trainers, and healthcare facility consultants from assisted living facilities, licensed and certified adult family homes, adult day cares, community based residential facilities, residential care apartment complexes, Medicaid personal care agencies and supportive home care agencies, and health and human service professionals. Instructors: Barbara Bowers, PhD, RN, is a professor at the University of Wisconsin- Madison, School of Nursing. She is an educator, researcher and policy consultant on the care of older adults, particularly in long-term care settings. The past ten years her work has focused primarily on aging individuals with intellectual disabilities and support staff.dr. Bowers co-authored the Australian and United States versions of Support for Older People with Intellectual Disability: A Manual for Promoting Health. She has published over a hundred articles related to aging. Kim Nolet, MS, is a longterm care researcher at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Nursing. Ms. Nolet has helped design educational offerings related to the care of older adults including workshops, manuals and online courses for direct caregivers, organizational leaders and the longterm care workforce. 10 Continuing Education Workshops for Trainers: CEHs: Continuing Education hours are accepted by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services and the Bureau of Assisted Living for CBRF Instructors. Completion of the Continuing Education Workshop provides 6 CEHs in either Medication Administration, Standard Precautions and/or Fire Safety. 3 hours from each workshop may be used towards adult learning. Certified Community Based Residential Facility (CBRF) Instructors may be required to take 12 hours of continuing education classes related to the subject area for which they are approved. Check your personal renewal information from the Center for Career Development and Employability Training (CCDET) for specific information regarding your renewal requirements.
