2 PMI Mass Bay 2016 The Project Management Institute (PMI) Mass Bay Chapter is pleased to announce our Seventh (7 th ) Annual to be held at the Four Points by Sheraton, Hotel and Conference Center in Norwood, Massachusetts. The conference will be held over two (2) days on Friday, September 16 and Saturday September 17, This is our Premier Professional Development event and we invite Speakers and Practitioners to submit presentations and white papers focused on the latest Project Management Trends and Best Practices in the industry. Each proposal should align directly to the PMI Talent Triangle. Please note that agile topics are represented in each of the categories. Suggested topics in each category include the following: Technical Project Management Skills - Moving up! 3 Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from the above-mentioned topics while being able to obtain PDUs towards their professional education requirements. Furthermore, the Attendees will have the opportunity to network with fellow colleagues and the speakers and be able to talk with local sponsors about their companies and services. PMI Mass Bay is looking for experienced and dynamic speakers to present their applications for our seventh (7 th ) annual PD Day event. This document contains the information needed for the candidates to submit their applications for consideration to present at this event. 5 About PMI Mass Bay The PMI Mass Bay Chapter, serving the Greater Boston area, is proud to be one of the largest and wellestablished local networks of project management professionals in the United States. Local chapters, such as the Mass Bay Chapter, advance the mission and objectives of Project Management Institute a global organization founded in 1969 for project management consisting of more than 500,000 members and credential holders in 170 countries. Our chapter includes an active membership of 2,600 members and a mailing list of over 5,000 recipients. Many of the area s largest and most respected companies are represented by the PMI Mass Bay Chapter, including industry leaders in construction, consulting, engineering, financial services, government, healthcare, information technology and pharmaceuticals. Description of Services Required Again, PMI Mass Bay is looking for Workshop Facilitators to share their topics and expertise with our Attendees during the event (see Event Schedule above). This year we invite Speakers to submit presentations and practitioners to submit white papers focused on the PMI Talent Triangle: Leadership Technical Project Management Skills Strategic and Business Management Please ensure that you note which topic area your presentation will represent in your application. This year s event is geared towards learning the Competencies and Skills needed to prepare Project Managers to become more effective leaders in their organizations. Topics should be written to appeal to Project Managers, Program Managers, Portfolio Managers, Business Analysts, and Agile practitioners. Presentations will be expected to follow the Workshop Format guidelines, as specified below. PMI Mass Bay Page 5 of 9

6 Workshop Format Depending on the scheduled duration and format of your session (presentation or white paper), a PMI volunteer will provide a short introduction and you will have to present your material. We strongly encourage all presentations be in an interactive format that encourages participation throughout the session. We discourage presentations, other than white papers to be in a lecture (presenter speaking only) and Q&A format. We also suggest that presenters provide participants with a useful takeaway that can be used to better manage their projects. Examples include templates, how to guides, references to blogs and other useful information. There will be three presentation rooms, each seating an average of 100 participants at round tables. Each room is equipped with audio (microphones and speakers) and visual (projectors and screens) equipment. Facilitators are required to bring their own laptops to present. If you have a special adapter that is needed to connect to the AV equipment, please be sure to bring it along. Examples may include an adapter for Apple products to the PC based hotel products. Laptops will not be available for presenters at the event. Proposal Submission and the Evaluation Process Refer to the Workshop Facilitator Application Form at the end of this Call for Speakers document for information required to be sent to PMI Mass Bay. Please note that any one person or company may submit up to a total of five (5) topics for review. The Speakers Committee for PMI Mass Bay will evaluate the responses to this Call for Speakers. Each member of the Selection Committee will rate proposals with the results subsequently compounded into an overall rating. The highest rated applicants for the options will be recommended for selection. The evaluations are based on written submissions using the following criteria: FIT - based on the proposed topic and content. EXPERIENCE as it relates to qualifications and experience of the applicant who will be the presenters/facilitators in the field of discussion. APPROACH AND METHODOLOGY OF PRESENTATION The strategy proposed to deliver the presentation; the understanding of what is expected and how the Facilitator intends on delivering the presentation including any innovative techniques. We prefer presentations to be interactive and encourage audience participation throughout the session. Case studies/real life examples are strongly encouraged to illustrate your lesson. White papers can be more lecture format with Q&A. PMI CERTIFICATION - it is preferred (but not required) the applicant has attained a Certification from PMI, such as a PMP, PgMP, etc. TAKE AWAYS templates and worksheets are examples of popular takeaways. Each presenter should offer a takeaway that participants can put into practice when they return to their offices. OWNERSHIP OF INFORMATION Speakers are responsible for securing any and all permissions needed for the use of copyrighted materials that they intend to include and/or use in their presentations. 7 LOCAL PROXIMITY Facilitators with presence in the Greater Boston and New England areas will be preferred over Facilitators that must travel a great distance. FEES In most cases, PMI MassBay will not engage a speaker for a fee. We will, however provide publicity for you and your company in our advertising and promotions to our mailing list of over 10,000. We will also provide exposure on our social media channels and at our events. Agreement for Services Contract The successful applicant will be required to sign a Speakers Agreement with PMI Mass Bay for the services indicated in this Call for Speakers. The Speakers Agreement will be sent via to successful applicants by PMI Mass Bay. Please refer to the Key Dates section above for submission and due date requirements.
