Commences Work in the Institution The Federal Government has re-constituted a Governing Council for the Institution. The Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufai, OON inaugurated the Governing Council at Abuja, urging them to carry out their duties diligently. She said the Federal Government counts on their support and cooperation in the implementation of the Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan s administration. Members of the Governing Council are: 1. Chief Sergeant Awuse - Chairman 2. Abdulkareem Usman - Member 3. Hon. Graham Ipigansi 4. Amb. Ghali Umar 5. Hon. Mamman Tambuwal 6. Bashir Tanimu 7. Abubakar A. Kar 8. Sen. Walid Jibrin 9. Dr. M. B. Ibrahim (Rector) 10. Ms Ann E. Haruna - Rep. FME 11. Zayyana I. Kukasheka (Registrar) Secretary. Other members to complete the composition of the Council are being awaited. The re-constituted Governing Council of the Institution had on the 30th May, 2013 commenced work with a call from the Chairman of the Governing Council, Chief Sergeant Awuse on the Polytechnic community to co-operate with the Council to move the Institution forward. He urged stakeholders to abreast the Council with relevant and accurate information that will assist in the discharge of their duties adding that the Council will justify the confidence reposed on them by the President and Commander Inchief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR. In his welcome address, the Rector of the Institution appealed to the Council members to use their wealth of experience and connections to salvage the Polytechnic from its present financial crisis adding that his administration inherited a debt of over one billion naira. Dr. Ibrahim also sought the intervention of the Council in actualizing the conversion of the Polytechnic to University or Degree awarding Institution as announced by the Federal Government stressing that further delay will cripple the Institution especially with the current flight of lecturers with Doctorate Degrees to universities. The Chairmen of the three Staff Unions (ASUP, SSANIP & NASU) pledged to co-operate and support the Governing Council.

2 Kaduna Polytechnic 56 Programmes Scale Through Re-Acreditation 56 programmes of the Institution have successfully scaled through re-accreditation hurdle carried out by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). The Board assembled cream of experienced academicians and industrialists in two batches for the exercise. The College of Science and Technology (CST) includes ND/HND Fashion Design & Clothing Technology, HND Printing, ND/HND Textile Technology, Pre-ND Science & Technology, ND/HND Hospitality Management, ND/HND Nutrition & Dietetics, ND Leisure & Tourism Management, ND/HND Statistics, HND Science Laboratory Technology with options in (Biology/Microbiology, Chemistry/Biochemistry, Microbiology, Physics with Electronics), HND Food Technology, HND Computer Science. Rector Admonishes New Students to Shun Anti-Social Behaviour various disciplines. Furthermore, he urged them to dedicate themselves to consistent study by making optimum use of the libraries and other learning resources available in the institution. Highlight of the occasion was the administering of the Matriculation oath on the students by the Institution's Registrar, Alh. Zayyana I. Kukasheka. In a related development, an orientation programme aimed at acquainting the new students with the system in the institution was held at the Convocation Square. The Rector of Kaduna Polytechnic, Dr. Mohammed Bello Ibrahim has admonished 6,044 students admitted for 2012/2013 Academic Session against involving themselves in cultism and other related vices. This admonition was given to the new students during the School's matriculation ceremony held at the Institution's Convocation Square. 3 244 B.ED Students Take Matriculation Oath NEPAD/TETFUND Handover ILN Centre To KADPOLY A total of 244 students admitted to study Bachelor of Education (Technology) for the 2012/2013 academic session by Kaduna Polytechnic in affiliation with the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna has taken the Matriculation Oath. Both the representative of the Vice-Chancellor FUT Minna Prof. Chukwu Ogbonaya, Director Collaboration, Affiliation and Linkages and the representative of Kaduna Polytechnic Rector, Dr. Aliyu Mamman Deputy Rector in their separate address counseled the matriculants to be guided by the tenet of the oath. 2 Lecturers Bag Ph.D The Dean School of Geodesy and Land Administration, Sunday Ogala Akor has bagged Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) Degree in Environmental and Resources Planning from University of Jos. Also, the former Kadploy ASUP Chairman, Yusuf Yakubu has obtained Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) Degree in Colour Chemistry and Technology from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. The Interactive Learning Network ( I L N ) c e n t r e b u i l t b y NEPAD/TETFUND in Kaduna Polytechnic was formally handed over to the Management of the Institution. The acting Executive Secretary TETFUND, Alh. Aliyu Na'iya handed the edifice to the Rector, Dr. M. B. Ibrahim on-behalf of the two agencies. Alh. Na'iya has agreed to the request of the Rector, Dr. M. B. Ibrahim that TETFUND will upgrade the Centre to network all academic institutions within 100 kms radius in Kaduna, e.g. Kaduna State University (KASU), Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA), Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic, Zaria, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria etc. Also, TETFUND has agreed to upgrade and finance the Inter- Campus network that will interconnect the five campuses of the Institution as a unit of ICT family thereby bringing the Polytechnic at per with its peer in the comity of P o l y t e c h n i c s i n D i g i t a l Technology. The Rector who expressed gratitude for the donation pledged to use the centre maximally. ILN is a dedicated network learning centre which creates a sustainable educational platform using appropriate technology through which quality educational content and data can be accessed. Kaduna Polytechnic is hosting the North West centre. DSS/Staff Primary School Case Will Soon Be Over The Rector, Dr. M. B. Ibrahim has secured a waiver from the Federal Ministry of Education to absorb qualified Staff of the Institution's Demonstration and Staff Primary School into the main stream Polytechnic. The absorption is going to be done in phases and gradually depending on the qualification of each staff. Abdulhammeed Becomes Corbon Board Member Bldr. Ahmed Sambo Abdulhammeed has becomes a Member of the 5th Board of the Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON) representing Tertiary Institutions. His nomination was approved by the President and Commander In- Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR. A Chef Lecturer in the Department of Building, Abdulhammed holds Master of Science (MS.c) Degree in Construction Management from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria. The case of two schools Staff which has traumatizing them has been lingering for a very long time. The timely intervention and follow up of the case by the Rector has finally brought respite to the affected Staff and the Polytechnic. After the current national strike by the Staff Unions, the absorption exercise will commence. He is a professional Member, American Concrete Institute (MACI), Quality Control Society of Nigeria (MQCS), Nigerian Institute of Building (MNIOB), Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (MNIQS) Registered Builder, Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria, Fellow, Nigerian Institute of Building (FNIOB). He was a one time Head of the Department of Building.

4 KPT & GTTI Signs MOU Kaduna Polytechnic and Gambia Technical Training Institute (GTTI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The Rector Dr. Mohammed Bello Ibrahim signed on-behalf of the Institution while Alhagie Ahmadou Gigo Chairman, GTTI board of Governors signed on-behalf of the Gambian Institute. With the signing of the MoU, both institutions will collaborate in staff development, exchange programmes and Technical Aids among others. World Bank Commends KADPOLY On Project Execution Rector Secures N112.5m Grant From Federal Government And Dangote Barely eight months in office, the Rector Dr. M. B. Ibrahim has secured a grant of one hundred million (N100,000,000.00) naira grant from the Federal Ministry of Finance for the Institution's re-accreditation programmes and a donation of twelve million, five hundred thousand naira (N12,500,000.00) from Dangote for the sustainability of STEP-B Centre for Solid Mineral Research and Development. Shortly after taking over the affairs of Institution, the Rector, faced with the reaccreditation issues which ought to have been done in 2011 but was not possible due to the crisis at that time wrote an appeal letter to the Federal Ministry of Finance for financial assistance. Though he requested for the sum of one eighty two million (N182,000,000.00) naira, the one granted is a huge success. Similarly, the Rector in a letter, requested Dangote to sponsor STEP-B's research on 'Design and production of small scale lime rotary kiln'. The President/Chief Executive of the company, Alh. Aliko Danote, GCON, granted the request. The World Bank has commended Kaduna Polytechnic for the execution of various projects at the Science and Technology Education Post- Basic (STEP-B) Centre according to the Bank's specifications. The Co-Task Team Lead (TTL) of the STEP-B Project Dr. Tunde Adekola gave the commendation when he led a team of World Bank officials on the - spot assessment of the projects in the Polytechnic. He therefore urged Staff and students of the Polytechnic to use the opportunity of the State of- the- Art equipment at the centre for the development of Solid Minerals in the country. In his address, the Rector, Dr. Mohammed Bello Ibrahim stated that the creation of the Centre was timely as it will solve the challenges facing research development in Solid Minerals' sector. Kaduna Polytechnic is a recipient of STEP-B grants in three areas; first, Improving Science & Technology teaching and learning to raise quality and relevance, efficiency and equity in Mining & Metallurgical Engineering; second, the Innovator (IOT) of Student Research Grant; and lastly, to support the emergence of a Centre of Excellence for Solid Minerals Research & Development. KADPOLY To Run Six Programmes For KRPC'S YESAP Kaduna Refining and Petro-chemical Company (KPRC) has approved the request of the Institution to run six programmes of the Company's Youth Empowerment and Skills Acquisition Programme (YESAP). The Manager of the Company, Alh. Abdullahi Idris disclosed the approval during the kick of the meeting of the fifth edition of the Programme at the Company. Kaduna Polytechnic will run Photography and Visual Imaging, Masonry and Interlocking, Fashion and Textile Design, Electrical Installation and Rewinding. Others are Making of House Hold Items (soap, paint, detergents etc) as well as Screen Printing. It may be recall that the Rector, Dr. M. B. Ibrahim has since assumption of duty been visiting various organizations in search of collaboration, one of which is KRPC that has now yielded fruit. In a related development, the Rector has written to partner with Kaduna State Government on skill acquisition training for the youths of the State. The approval is been waited.

5 NCC Trains 75 Staff On ICT The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) has trained 75 Staff of the Institution in Advanced Digital Appreciation Programme. The training took place in the College of Engineering (COE) of the Polytechnic. The trainees were equipped with skills to perform jobs using ICT facilities. The Rector, Dr. M. B. Ibrahim who declared the training opened thanked NCC for the gesture. In an interview with the Institution's coordinator of the programme, Dr. Aliyu D. Usman, said the second batch of the training for the Polytechnic Staff comes up in July, KADPOLY Consult Gets New MD KADPOLY Assess 2011/2012 TETFUND Intervention The confidence building tour of the Rector, Dr. M.B. Ibrahim to TETFUND office at Abuja has yielded fruit with the approval granted by TETFUND for the Polytechnic to assess year 2011/2012 merged TETFUND Normal Intervention Allocations. The Institution nearly lost the allocation due to the crisis that rocked the Polytechnic in 2011, however, with the approval, the Polytechnic has now advertised for the projects and the Technical and Financial bids process completed. The projects that the Institution benefits includes, Construction of Classrooms and Staff Offices for Department of Environmental Sciences at the College of Environmental Studies, Procurement of Equipment for Glassblowing Laboratory, Department of Applied Science, College of Science and Technology, Procurement of Borosilicate Tubing for Applied Science Department, College of Science and Technology, Procurement of Computers and Accessories for Agricultural Engineering Department, College of Engineering, Procurement of Office Equipment for Chief Lectures Offices and Procurement of Office Furniture for Chief Lecturers Offices.... Year 2013 Capital Projects Too Kaduna Polytechnic will enjoy lofty projects as the Rector's effort has made the Polytechnic to secured year 2013 Capital Projects. Already, the Institution has advertised for interested bidders to bid. These projects are Construction of Lecture Halls & Offices at the Tudun Wada Main Campus, Construction of Perimeter Wall Fence at the College of Administrative Studies & Social Science, Bye pass Campus, Procurement & Installation of Office Furniture for Principal Lecturers, Procurement & Installation of Generators, Procurement & Installation of Equipment, Procurement & Installation of Security Equipment for the Tudun Wada Main Campus, Rehabilitation of Roads & Parks, and Rehabilitation of Academic Buildings. Alh. A. D. Umar M. D. Kadpoly Consult In a related development, the Management of the Institution has approved the Procurement, Installation & Commissioning of Equipment for the Chemical Engineering Department. The project would be funded from the Institution's Internally Generated Revenue. The Rector, Kaduna Polytechnic Dr. Mohammed Bello Ibrahim has approved the appointment of Mallam Abubakar Dan'Asabe Umar as the Managing Director Kadpoly Consult Nig. Ltd. Until his appointment, Umar was the Dean, Student Affairs of the Institution.

6 New Dean, Student Affairs Appointed The Rector, Dr. Mohammed B. Ibrahim has approved the appointment of Dr. Nasirdeen Khalid Abdullahi as the Dean Student Affairs of the Institution. A Principal Lecturer in the Department of Applied Science, Abdullahi holds Doctorate Degree (Ph.D) in Applied Geophysics from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He is Professional Members of Nigerian Institute of Physics (NIP), Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS), Nigerian Association of Hydro-geologist (NAH), Society of Exploration Geophysics (SEG) and European Association of Geosciences Engineers (EAGE).
