The Master of Architecture is accredited as a professional program in architecture by the National Architectural Accrediting Board, a designation required by the state of Utah and most other states for licensure as a registered architect. A post-professional program (advanced study beyond the professional degree) is also offered as a Master of Science in architectural studies. Both programs offer professional training in their respective disciplines as well as active programs of research and public service activities. College of Engineering Accreditation: Undergraduate programs in chemical engineering, civil engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, materials science and engineering, and mechanical engineering are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). The biomedical engineering and computer science undergraduate programs are not accredited. The University of Utah School of Medicine has 53 graduate medical education programs accredited by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education and its associated residency review committees. The Medical Laboratory Science curriculum is accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation. The Physician Assistant Program is approved by the American Medical Association. The M.S. in public health and the M.P.H. are accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (C.E.P.H.). The M.P.A.S. is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). College of Mines and Earth Sciences Accreditation: Member, University Corporation for Atmospheric Research. Curricula in geological, metallurgical, and mining engineering accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). College of Nursing Accreditation: The College of Nursing is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (a ten-year accreditation was received in 2001) and approved by the Utah State Board of Nursing. The master s nursemidwifery program is accredited by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. Information about the nursing programs is current at the time of publication of this catalog. The college is a member of the Western Commission for Higher Education in Nursing and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. The college participates in the U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force nursing programs. Chemical Engineering The undergraduate program in chemical engineering is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). The Chemical Engineering Program in the Department of Chemical and Fuels Engineering was reaccredited in In Fall 2003, the department will be reevaluated based on Engineering Criteria 2000 established by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). The new criteria are based on a philosophy of continuous program improvement. The department is expected to establish educational objectives consistent with the mission of the institution and achieve these objectives through an educational program. All students are expected to meet outcomes determined by the department. The program improvement is based on data collected through a variety of assessment and evaluation tools. Civil and Environmental Engineering The undergraduate program in Civil Engineering is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Communication Accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. Communication Sciences & Disorders Accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech- Language-Hearing Association. Computer Engineering The Computer Engineering Program was accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) in In addition, both of the participating departments have been accredited by their respective accreditation bodies.

5 Division of Nutrition The Coordinated Master s Program in Dietetics is fully accredited by the American Dietetic Association. The supervised practice experience exposes students to administrative, clinical, community, food service management, and research-learning activities directed by registered dietitians. Educational Psychology Accredited by the American Psychological Association, National Association of School Psychologists, Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges. Electrical and Computer Engineering The undergraduate programs in electrical and computer engineering are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) Electrical Engineering The B.S. degree programs in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Exercise and Sport Science The CAAHEP accredited athletic training education program (ATEP) provides students with an integrated knowledge and clinical understanding of athletic training techniques and their application within sports medicine. Through a cooperative effort between the Department of Exercise and Sport Science, Division of Physical Therapy, and Intercollegiate Athletics a curriculum has been designed that will provide a variety of learning opportunities leading to a mastery of athletic training skills. In addition, a variety of clinical experiences with University of Utah athletic teams, sports medicine clinics, high schools, and professional sports teams will be provided to prepare the student for a career in athletic training. Family and Preventive Medicine The M.S. in public health and the M.P.H. are accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (C.E.P.H.). The M.P.A.S. is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Geological engineering The undergraduate program in geological engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board of

The goal of the undergraduate program is to produce graduates who have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Examination and who are able to competently apply scientific principles of geology, Material Science and Engineering The undergraduate program in materials science and engineering is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Mechanical Engineering The undergraduate program in mechanical engineering is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Medical Laboratory Science The MLS Programs are accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS). Metallurgical Engineering Accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. Mining Engineering The mining engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Occupational Therapy The Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) is accredited by the U.S. Office of Education as the only accrediting agency for educational programs in occupational therapy. This program leading to a Masters in Occupational Therapy has been accredited by ACOTE (2001). ACOTE is located at 4720 Montgomery Lane, P.O. Box 31220, Bethesda, MD , (310) Graduates of this program are eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). Parks, Recreation and Tourism Accredited by National Recreation and Park Association/American Association for Leisure and Recreation Council on Accreditation.

7 The Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism serves its majors as well as the student body at large. For its majors, the Department provides a nationally accredited curriculum that prepares students for careers in parks, recreation, and tourism planning, management, and direct service delivery. To the campus at large, the Department offers the Natural Resources Learning program. That program teaches outdoor recreation skills in the context of natural resource issues and challenges faced by major land management agencies. As such, the program promotes healthy lifestyles, and safe and appropriate use of environmental resources. It also empowers students to influence public policy concerning natural resource recreation management issues. Pathology Accredited by Liaison Committee on Medical Education Physical Therapy Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) Psychology The graduate program in clinical psychology is accredited by the American Psychological Association. Public Administration The Master of Public Administration (MPA), is conferred by the Department of Political Science, administered by the Center for Public Policy and Administration, and accredited by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA). Urban Planning The College of Architecture + Planning is presently working toward the establishment of an accredited, graduate degree in urban planning.
