1 MINISTRY OF EDUCATION Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago 18 Alexandra Street, St. Clair, Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago JOB OPPORTUNITIES The Ministry of Education is inviting applications from suitably qualified nationals of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to fill the under-mentioned positions, on contract. (1) BEHAVIOURAL SPECIALIST STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES DIVISION The Behavioural Specialist is responsible for effecting positive behavioural change in students, through the provision of supportive interventions with identified students, their families, teachers, and other support personnel. Bachelor s Degree from an accredited institution in Behavioural Science, Psychology, Education or other related field. Post graduate training in Applied Behaviour Analysis or related area. Evidence of training and experience in the application of positive behavioural strategies to modify, eliminate, and de-escalate/minimise problem behaviours displayed by students with various intellectual, learning and/or developmental challenges/disabilities. Experience in conducting functional behaviour assessments and the development of individualised and group intervention programmes for students with behavioural challenges/needs. Relevant experience working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in an educational environment. (2) CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST The Clinical Psychologist provides professional developmental and psychological assessments of students with the aim of improving students overall psychological functioning and well-being. The Clinical Psychologist specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of behavioural, mental, emotional and learning disorders that impact student learning and behaviour.

2 Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from an accredited university. Considerable experience in the administration and interpretation of psychological tests and measures as evidenced by at least five (5) years work experience in the field. Relevant experience in working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in an educational environment. (3) SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST The School Psychologist is responsible for assessing students level of intellectual functioning, ability to learn and must be able to recommend the best techniques to be used in teaching the special needs child. Masters Degree in School Psychology from an accredited University. Considerable experience in the administration and interpretation of psychological tests as evidenced by at least six (6) years work experience in the field. Certification in Educational Administration will be an asset. (4) SENIOR SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER The Senior School Social Worker is responsible for administering and directing all activities related to the provision of school social work services in schools. A First Degree from an accredited University with a major in Psychology/ Behavioural Science. A Certificate in Guidance and Counselling from a recognised institution. At least four (4) years experience in a teaching or counselling position in the education system. Experience dealing with students with behavioural problems. Teaching experience will be an asset.

3 (5) SENIOR EDUCATION INSTRUCTOR (SPECIAL EDUCATION) The Senior Education Instructor (Special Education) is responsible for assessing the learning environment as well as individual students and managing appropriate intervention strategies. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: Bachelor s Degree in Education or its equivalent A minimum of five (5) years experience teaching students with special educational needs. Certificate/Diploma in Special Education from an accredited University will be an asset (6) SPECIAL EDUCATION INSTRUCTOR The Special Education Instructor is responsible for teaching students with special educational needs. Certification in Teaching as evidenced by the possession of a Teacher s Diploma or equivalent A minimum of five (5) years experience teaching students with special educational needs. Additional qualifications at the Certificate or Diploma level in the field of Special Education field will be an asset. (7) BRAILLE CONVERSION OPERATOR The Braille Conversion Operator provides Braille/Text Conversion and other software related services to the visually impaired community of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. A minimum of five (5) GCE/CXC O Levels including English and Mathematics. Experience in the operation of Braille software would be an asset although not necessary. OR Any equivalent combinations of skills and experience. (8) BRAILLE TECHNICIANS

4 To repair and maintain Braille Machines. A minimum of three (3) GCE/CXC O Levels including English and Mathematics. Certificate or Diploma in Repair and Maintenance of Machines. Experience in the repairs and maintenance of small machines. Successful applicant would be required to undergo a period of training to repair and maintain Braille Machines. (9) INTERPRETER ASSISTANTS The Interpreter Assistant s primary function is to facilitate communication among deaf and hearing impaired students and their hearing peers, teachers and other personnel involved in the student s education through the act of interpretation. A minimum of five (5) O Levels including English and certification in sign language from a recognised institution. Experience in the demonstrating of sign language will be an asset. OR Any equivalent combination of experience and training. EDUCATION FACILITIES PLANNING AND PROCURMENT DIVISION (1) PROJECT MANAGER (ECCE CENTRES) JOB SUMMARY Responsible for developing systems to manage monitor and implement internal aspects of school construction, repairs and maintenance. A Degree in Civil Engineering, together with qualifications in project management from a recognized institution. A minimum of ten (10) years experience in managing projects. Strong negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills will be required. (2) TECHNICAL COORDINATOR

5 Responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of the land acquisition, school construction, repair and maintenance portfolio. B.Sc. Civil Engineering or architecture. Post Graduate qualifications in Public Administration/Management or Project Management/Business Administration from a recognized institution. Minimum of twelve (12) years experience as a senior manager. Experience in education facilities planning, finance, maintenance, curriculum, institutional strengthening, negotiation skills, school construction and maintenance works. Experience working with international funding agencies such as the World Bank, CDB, EEC and IDB will be an asset (3) COORDINATOR, FACILITIES MAINTENANCE AND MANAGEMENT Supervises, coordinates and directs the Facilities Maintenance programme of work in the schools and districts; liaises with service providers, for example, EFCL, schools management teams, key stakeholders and other external parties as well as other functional entities within the Ministry, to ensure a smooth and timely rollout/implementation of all facilities maintenance related activities. Bachelor s Degree in Education Administration or Engineering. Post Graduate training in Facilities Management/Project Management. Ability to develop and implement monitoring and evaluation mechanisms for the execution of Facilities Management Programmes. Five (5) to ten (10) years experience coordinating/overseeing large scale project activities. Knowledge of the education system in Trinidad and Tobago will be an asset. Excellent negotiation, communication (both orally and written) and interpersonal skills will be necessary. CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS DIVISION (1) MANAGER CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS This incumbent is required to develop, implement, direct and evaluate the Ministry s/department s marketing and communications strategies and programmes including public relations, media relations, web site content and the Ministry s/department s identity/image programme.

6 Minimum of eight (8) years experience in the field of Corporate Communications or Public Relations or Media Relations and Advertising. Training as evidenced by a recognised University Degree in Communications Studies or a post graduate Diploma in a related field. (2) SENIOR CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER The incumbent is required to play a key role in the implementation of the Ministry s Corporate Communications strategy and programmes. Depending on work assignment, the incumbent will be required to perform duties in one or more of the Communications functional areas. Minimum five (5) years experience in the field of Corporate Communications or Public Relations or Media Relations and Advertising. Training as evidenced by a recognized University Degree in Communications Studies or a post graduate Diploma in a related field. (3) EVENTS OFFICER To create an events strategy focused on delivering key strategic priorities; take day-to-day responsibility for all aspects of event co-ordination; develop and manage a public engagement programme for the Ministry of Education; work across the Corporate Communications Division to deliver Ministry of Education s strategic operational and delivery plan objectives. Bachelor s degree in Business Management/Administration, or certification/ training in Events Management or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience necessary to perform job duties. A minimum of 5 years experience developing, implementing, and monitoring detailed work plans for events and other relevant activities. Knowledge of the education sector and public service procedures will be an asset. LEGAL UNIT (1) LEGAL RESEARCH OFFICER

7 - The incumbent is required to perform work involving research related to the laws and legal issues pertinent to the operations of the Ministry/Department. Duties include preparing legal documents and developing and maintaining a repository of documents on legal matters. Minimum of two (2) years experience in legal research. Bachelor of Law Degree from a recognized institution. EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE AND EDUCATION DIVISION (ECCE) (1) DISTRICT ECCE CURRICULUM PROGRAMME FACILITATOR The incumbent is responsible for identifying problems/weaknesses in the implementation of the ECCE Services and assisting teachers with teaching strategies. Bachelor s Degree ECCE. Experience in ECCE Curriculum Planning and Implementation. Experience as an ECCE Curriculum Facilitator or equivalent. Trinidad and Tobago Teacher s Diploma with an ECCE elective will be an asset. PROGRAMME AND PROJECTS PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT UNIT (PPPMU) (1) TECHNICAL ASSISTANT (SIX (6) POSITIONS FOR EACH OF THE FOLLOWING UNITS) EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE AND EDUCATION DIVISION STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES DIVISION CURRICULUM PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT DIVISION TEACHER EDUCATION AND TEACHER PERFORMANCE PROJECT UNIT EDUCATIONAL PLANNING DIVISION DIVISION OF TESTING AND ASSESSMENT

8 The Technical Assistant has the overall responsibility for undertaking those activities related to the implementation and completion of the Seamless Education System Project so as to support the relevant Director/Heads in its efficient and effective completion. Bachelor s Degree in education from a recognized university or institution. Considerable experience in the field of education/administration. Project Management certification OR Any equivalent combination of experience and training. DIVISION OF TESTING AND ASSESSMENT DIVISION (1) MEASUREMENT AND EVALUATION SPECIALIST - Ensures the successful implementation of all tests and to conduct related research and evaluation of these tests. - A University Degree in one of the following subject areas:- o Mathematics/Natural Science/Technology Studies o Social Sciences /Geography/History o English o Foreign Language o Art/Music/Dance/Drama Post Graduate training and practical experience in Educational Testing, Measurement and Evaluation. Experience as a Teacher and/or School Administrator at the secondary level. Experience in assessment/program evaluation design would be considered as an asset. Any other equivalent combination of training and experience.
