Tech) Pekka Malinen Paraatikenttä Kouvola FINLAND pekka.malinen@kyamk.fi Studying environment in our school Our school, the unit of Design and Media in Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences, educates future professionals for the fields of design, media and restoration. We emphasise a visual and contentual approach, use of technology and development of the student s communicative skills. Design and Media is a part of the faculty of International Business and Culture. Close cooperation and joint-projects with the Business unit promote entrepreneurial working methods. We focus on comprehensive design of various product and service concepts utilising the expertise in our various degree programmes. A strong sense of form as well as user and context-centered design are key elements in our work. Courses are based on different kinds of, often authentic, projects. Research, development, and innovation activities are interwoven as an integral part of the tuition. Media and Design has four degree programmes: Design Interior Architecture and Furniture Design Product Design Designer-stylist Restoration Media Audiovisual Media Digital Media Graphic Design Degree Programme in Design (studies in English) Our students have an opportunity to participate in various international projects or go abroad for exchange studies or practical training.

She was the only Finnish competitor and the youngest finalist in the competition. The coat rack is made of wooden arcs. Baltic Modo is a design competition organised by the faculty of International Business and Culture. Baltic Modo 2009 was the third time the event had been held and the first to include the countries around the Baltic Sea. The competition was aimed at university students of design and architecture. The objective of the competition was to discover young, innovative new designers. Modo Exhibition 2008 Habitare The theme for the 2009 design competition was What keeps it blue?, which challenged designers to seek answers to environmental and ecological problems through their design. The competition was organised by an international project group consisting of students. The winning entries were presented at Habitare Furniture Fairs in Helsinki (the Design Capital 2012).
