2 University of Stirling Swimming Scholarships Swimming is a core sport in the University of Stirling s International Sports Scholarship Programme, whose alumni include Olympians, World and Commonwealth Games athletes. The swimming programme supports able-bodied and disability athletes from its base on-campus at the National Swimming Academy, home to Scottish Swimming. Stirling has also been awarded Intensive Training Centre (ITC) status by British Swimming. Training and Competition Our individually tailored swimming programme, for men and women, enables scholars to combine their high performance training with study for an academic degree. The weekly schedule comprises around 25 hours pool time and daily land conditioning training with specialist staff. There is access to sports science support, including diet and nutrition, psychology, physiotherapy, lifestyle management and medical expertise. Squad members compete in Scottish and British University competitions and national and international events, including major Games. 3 Facilities Swimmers have access to world-class training facilities, including: 6-lane 50m swimming pool Land-conditioning suite MP Jackson Fitness Centre with aerobic area Strength and Conditioning Super Centre State-of-the-art sports science laboratories Notational Analysis support Coaching Each swim squad has its own professional coach. The Intensive Training Centre squads work alongside Scottish Swimming s Stirling Performance squad. There is also a Stirling Integrated squad which supports elite disability swimmers and talented non-scholarship swimmers. Funding Selected scholars can receive financial support up to 5000 per annum to subsidise competition entry, travel and training camps abroad and on-campus accommodation. Academic Flexibility A fundamental part of the scholarships is academic flexibility to help combine study with high performance sport. This includes assessment extensions, exam deferment and study extension periods. Accommodation and Equipment Swimmers have the opportunity to stay in on-campus accommodation, while essential clothing and equipment is also provided.

4 Apply Now Applicants must meet the normal entry requirements for study at the University of Stirling. Prospective scholars should hold a high profile in national swimming competitions at youth level or above. Apply by the end of February for entry the following September. 5 Study at Stirling Flexibility and choice Stirling has a refreshingly different approach to degrees. You get to adapt and develop your study choices as you go, combining subjects from across the University. Scholarship swimmers can study full-time or part-time in undergraduate or postgraduate degree programmes of their choice. Sport specific programmes at the School of Sport which make up 12% of all applications to Stirling include: BA Sports Studies, BSc Sport and Exercise Science, MSc Sports Management and MSc Sports Coaching.
