1 KEYNOTE SPEAKERS JARMO AHONEN In tennis Ahonen has been a personal physiotherapist and fitness coach for Jarkko Nieminen and Robert Lindstedt ( ). Furthermore, he has been the Davis Cup team physiotherapist and fitness coach. Ahonen is author of 11 sports and physiotherapy related books. Jarmo Ahonen holds a degree in physiotherapy at the Helsinki IV College of Health Sciences. He obtained his degree after doing pre-physiotherapy studies at California State University Fresno (USA). From 1977 to 1994 Ahonen was the team physiotherapist of the Finnish Track and Field Association. During that time he also coached pole vaulters in athletics for several years. From 1986 till 2012 he was a consulting physiotherapist and fitness coach for the Finnish National Ballet. In addition, he is a seven times Olympian Physiotherapist with the Finnish Olympic team. Currently, he is member of the Finnish National Olympic Committee (Medical Board). MIKE BARRELL Based in the UK, Mike has taught tennis for over 25 years working with players of all levels and is the Founder and owner of evolve9. Mike has presented at numerous National and International conferences, authored magazine articles and manuals. He has worked on programs for USTA, Tennis Australia, LTA (GB), Chinese Tennis Association and other tennis nations including Holland, Norway, Estonia, Cyprus and Hungary. Mike is a co - author of the ITF Tennis10s Manual and has been a major contributor to Under 10 programs around the World. As well as his role as Director of evolve9, he also works for the LTA as a Coach Education Master Tutor, delivering coach education, certification and training. An LTA Level 5 Licensed Coach, he was also the 2007 PTR Professional of the Year.
2 NICK BOLLETIERI Nick Bollettieri is one of the most influential people in the world of tennis and a legend who has transcended the sport. In 1978, he founded the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Florida, which is now the IMG Academy Bollettieri Tennis Program. The Academy was the first full-time tennis boarding school to combine intense training on the court with a custom-designed academic curriculum. He has coached ten former #1 players in the world - Agassi, Becker, Courier, Hingis, Jankovic, Rios, Seles, Sharapova and Venus and Serena Williams, as well as a multitude of other worldclass players, including: Haas, Kournikova, Arias and Vaidisova, to name a few. His Academy has become synonymous with tennis excellence and its coaches and students continue to reflect Nick's passion for excellence and the game. JÜRG BÜHLER Jürg Bühler has worked for 15 years as a tennis coach and obtained the highest Swiss coach diploma (A-Trainer). He also achieved a master's degree in developmental psychology and sports psychology at the University of Bern. Jürg Bühler then worked several years as a sports psychologist in various sports as well as a coaches educator. Since 2009 he has been the Head of coaches education at Swiss Tennis Association (70%) and has worked as a sports psychologist with the national junior team at the National Training Center (30%). He is also responsible for the Swiss Tennis Player Development Programme.
3 FRANK COURAUD Frank Couraud has worked for the ITF for the past 25 years and has visited over eighty countries on behalf of the ITF. At the beginning of his career, he travelled as a coach with the ITF Junior Teams, which included Byron Black, Clement N Goran, Benny Wijaja, James Greenhalgh. As Development Officer for Africa between 1987 and 1990 he conducted coaches courses and consultations in 17 African nations. He was Development Officer for the Caribbean from 1992 to In 1998, Frank moved to the ITF s London headquarters to become the Development Projects Administrator, overseeing the Development Officers, the touring teams and training centre projects. He continues to play a very important role in assisting Dave Miley, Executive Director of Development, with these, among other development projects around the world. Frank is responsible for the ITF touring teams which include annually 30 junior teams with 170 players from around the world. He oversees also the ITF high performance centres. Previously, Frank played extensively in France and holds the highest French coaching qualification. MIGUEL CRESPO Miguel is the Research Officer for the Tennis Development Department of the International Tennis Federation (ITF). Based in Spain, Miguel is responsible for the ITF Coaches Education Programme and has been involved in the writing of many of the ITF s coach education publications including: the ITF Advanced Coaches Manual; the ITF School Tennis Initiative Teachers Manual; the ITF s Being a Better Tennis Parent, and The Tennis Volunteer among other publications. He also travels the world conducting coaches workshops and reporting on the latest developments in the field of coaching. Miguel holds a Ph.D. in Sports Psychology and a B.A. in Philology. He is former Director of the National Coaching School of the Real Federación Española de Tenis. Between 1984 and 1989, Miguel was a travelling coach and captain of Spanish National Junior Teams. Miguel has taught coaches at all levels and has written articles and books for coaches, players and officials of the game.
4 MICHELANGELO DELLEDERA Michelangelo has been involved in coach education since 1990, working with the State of Puglia, Italy from 1990 until 2001 and now with the Italian Federation. As a coach he has been technical director for the Italian Federation, as well as holding the role of captain for all U12- U18 national teams. He holds a Master s degree in Sports Management also works with the Higher Education institute Roberto Lombardi. WAYNE ELDERTON Wayne is the Head of Tennis Canada Coaching Development & Certification in British Columbia. He is a certified Canadian National level 4 coach as well as being certified by the PTR and USPTA. For two consecutive years he was runner-up for Canadian national development coach-ofthe-year out of nominated coaches from every sport. He is a multiple winner of the Tennis BC High Performance Coach-of-the-year award and the Tennis Canada Coaching Excellence awards. His players have won multiple national championships and some have gone on to become ATP and WTA players. He has also coached 3 players to the top 10 in the world in Wheelchair Tennis. Wayne is currently Tennis Director at the Grant Connell Tennis Centre in North Vancouver, the 2005 Canadian Facility of the year for program excellence. He is a national expert on coaching using a Game-based approach and Progressive Tennis. His materials and articles have been published by Tennis Canada, TennisOne.com, the PTR, Tennis Corporation of America, Tennis Australia, and the ITF.
5 BRUCE ELLIOTT Professor Bruce C. Elliott (PhD, FACHPER, FISBS, FAAKPE) is an Emeritus Professor and Senior Research Fellow within the School of Sport Science, Exercise and Health, at the University of Western Australia. Generally considered a world leader in research into sport biomechanics, particularly tennis stroke production, he has co-edited the ITF publications Biomechanics of Advanced Tennis (2003) and Technique Development in Tennis Stroke Production (2009). He has published over 220 refereed articles in journals and 100 refereed Conference Proceedings, as well as over 50 book chapters or books, all in the general area of sports biomechanics. He was the organiser of the applied research Projects at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, one of which was on shoulder loading in the tennis serve. He is a past president ( ) of the International Society of Biomechanics in Sports and sits on the Coaching Advisory Panel of Tennis Australia. In 1999 he was honoured with the Award of Merit by the Western Australian Sports Federation and in 2003 the Professional Tennis Registry gave him the Stanley Plagenhoef Sport Science Award for his lifetime contribution to tennis and the Australian Government awarded him their Centenary Medal for service to sport policy and research development for sport. The University of Western Australia presented him an award for Excellence in Research Supervision in 2006 and Excellence in Teaching in FRANK VAN FRAAYENHOVEN Frank is working full-time in coach education within the KNLTB (the Royal Dutch Lawn Tennis Association) as a tutor and as a manager. He has been involved in the education of coaches for more than 30 years and has worked with coaches and/or players in more than 70 countries. From '86 to '89 Frank was a national coach, working with both top juniors and top professionals from the Netherlands. Frank has written several books (in Dutch) and many articles on tennis. At the European Coaches Symposium as well as at Worldwide and Regional Workshops for the ITF, he has been a regular speaker during the last 29 years. Presently Frank is working closely together with the Dutch national coaches and published a new development program for talented players in 2011.
6 Frank travels occasionally with top juniors to ITF tournaments and European Championships at the under 18 level. He captained the Dutch Junior Davis Cup team winning the world championships in Barcelona Frank is also a member of the ITF Coaches Commission and received the ITF Award for services to the game in ROHAN GOETZKE Rohan Goetzke is the Director of the IMG Academy Bollettieri tennis program in Florida. Goetzke oversees all aspects of the tennis program, ensuring the highest level of development from junior level to professional. The program boasts an impressive list of alumni including the likes of Andre Agassi, Maria Sharapova and Britain's Heather Watson. Born in Australia, Goetzke started his coaching career in Belgium before joining forces with a young Richard Krajicek. He has also worked with the likes of Mario Ancic, and was the Technical Director for the Dutch Tennis Federation working with Robin Haase, Michaella Krajicek,Thiemo De Bakker and Arantxa Rus. TOM GULLIKSON Gullikson of Palm Coast, Fla., began his coaching career shortly after his retirement from playing and became one of the earliest USTA Player Development coaches, where he coached Jim Courier, Todd Martin and Jennifer Capriati, among others. He later served as the program s Director of Coaching from 1997 to Gullikson also served as U.S. Davis Cup captain from and led the 1995 team to the Davis Cup title. Additionally, he was the men s coach during the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, where he helped Andre Agassi win the men s singles gold medal. Gullikson made his professional debut at the 1976 French Open, and over the course of his career, he captured 15 doubles titles (10 with identical twin brother Tim) and one singles title. He and Tim reached the Wimbledon doubles final in 1983, and one year later, he won the US Open mixed doubles title with partner Manuela Maleeva. That same year, he achieved careerhigh rankings of No. 34 in singles and No. 9 in doubles.
7 BRIAN HAINLINE Dr. Brian Hainline has served as the Chief Medical Officer for the US Open Tennis Championships since 1992 and has been actively involved in launching key improvements in the care provided for professional tennis players. Brian is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the USTA, is chair of the ITF Sport Science and Medicine Commission, and is a member of the ITF Wheelchair Tennis Medical Commission. He is co-author of Drugs and the Athlete, and has been actively involved in tennis anti-doping matters. His most recent book, Back Pain Understood, is his first book written for the general public. Brian is Clinical Associate Professor of Neurology at New York University School of Medicine. JOSE HIGUERAS Higueras joined the USTA coaching staff in 2008 after being hired by Patrick McEnroe to oversee all of Player Development s coaching efforts. Higueras has worked with a number of the world s best players both past and present, including Pete Sampras, Jim Courier, Roger Federer, Jennifer Capriati and Mary Joe Fernandez. He was also Michael Chang s coach when Chang won the French Open at age 17. As a professional, Higueras won 16 ATP singles titles and was ranked as high as No. 6 in the world. He reached the semifinals at Roland Garros in back-to-back years in 1982 and 1983, and he received the ATP Sportsmanship Award in Higueras was also a mainstay on the Spanish Davis Cup team, playing for eight years. Since joining the USTA, Higueras has worked with USTA Player Development General Manager Patrick McEnroe to develop an overall strategic approach that best identifies and develops future American champions. He has also travelled the country scouting top junior talent and providing on-court guidance to players and coaches alike.
8 KIM KACHEL Kim Kachel is the Project Talent Leader at Tennis Australia and a Tennis Australia Club Professional Coach. Kim has extensive coaching experience having coached at various clubs and for the National Academy and the Victorian Institute of Sport. More recently he has established the Talent Development Coaches program and Super 10s (an exciting 10/u competition) at Tennis Australia. Project Talent aims to improve the quality and quantity of athletes under the age of 12. Kim holds a Bachelor of Science with majors in Genetics and Cell Biology. CESAR KIST Cesar Kist was a member of the 1986 Brazilian Davis Cup Team. His best ATP ranking in singles was 119 (in 1986) and in doubles he reached number 79 (in 1987). For 3 years he was the coach of Goichi Motomura, who held the Japanese number 1 ranking and was a member of the Japanese Davis Cup team. He also worked with Kyoko Nagatsuka who reached a WTA ranking of 28 and participated in the Atlanta Olympics. Currently as Development Director of the Brazilian Tennis Federation, he is responsible for the Coaching Education Department, Tennis at School Programme, Play and Stay and Tennis 10 s. In addition, he is an ATP coach and member of the ITF Coaches Commission since 2008, delivering several courses and symposiums all over Brazil and abroad.
9 MARK KOVACS Mark is currently the Director at the Gatorade Sport Science Institute and a co-founder of the International Tennis Performance Association (itpa). The itpa is the worldwide education and certification organization for trainers, coaches and specialists in tennis-specific performance enhancement and injury prevention. Prior to his current role Mark worked at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) overseeing the sport science and coaching education division. Mark was a former professional player and was an All-American and NCAA doubles champion at Auburn University. After playing professionally, he pursued his graduate work performing tennisspecific research and has a graduate degree in Exercise Science from Auburn University and a Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology from The University of Alabama. Dr. Kovacs is also a certified tennis performance specialist (CTPS) through the itpa, a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, a certified Health/Fitness Instructor through the American College of Sports Medicine, a United States Track and Field Level II sprints coach and also a certified tennis coach. He currently chairs the PTR Sport Science Committee, the ITF Health Benefits of Tennis Taskforce and is a member of both the ITF Coaches Commission and the USTA Sport Science Committee. Mark has published and presented tennis specific research in numerous top scientific journals and at national and international conferences. He is also an author of the tennis conditioning texts Tennis Training: Enhancing On-Court Performance, Tennis Anatomy, Dynamic Stretching as well as lead editor for the text Tennis Recovery textbook. He has also personally trained dozens of top 50 ATP & WTA players as well as junior and professional Grand Slam champions in all aspects of performance enhancement and injury.
10 LARRY LAUER Dr. Larry Lauer is the mental skills specialist for USTA Player Development. Larry has a Ph D in exercise and sport science, specializing in sport psychology from the University of North Carolina Greensboro. He has been a sport psychology consultant for over a decade with elite tennis players from juniors, college, and pros. Larry was an assistant coach and mental coach for Michigan State Men s Tennis the past three years, helping the team reach the 2013 NCAA tournament. Formerly, Larry was the Director of Coaching Education and Development in the Institute for the Study of Youth Sports (ISYS) at Michigan State University. At ISYS Larry conducted research on tennis parents, coaching, coach education, aggression in hockey, and life skills development in youth. He also was involved in training Detroit police officers and coaches to mentor youth athletes for the Detroit PAL. Larry was the lead editor for the USTA Mental Skills and Drills Handbook published by Coaches Choice. An AASP Certified Consultant and listed in the United States Olympic Committee Sport Psychology Registry, , Larry was named one of the 100 Most Influential Sport Educators in America by the Institute for International Sport. LEONARDO LAVALLE Leonardo had a former ATP Ranking Singles of 50 and 23 in Doubles with having won 5 ATP doubles titles. Palermo, Rotterdam, Buzios and Mexico ( twice). In 1985 he was Wimbledon Junior champion and finished the year n. 2 in the world in Juniors. In 1991 he was Wimbledon doubles finalist and was twice Wimbledon doubles semifinalist in 1989 and 1990 and twice Roland Garros doubles semifinalist 1988 and He also reached quarter finals in US Open mixed doubles. In Davis Cup, Leonardo represented Mexico for 11 years, winning 30 matches and losing 23. Among the most important players he defeated during his professional career were: Stefan Edberg, Jim Courier, Pat Cash, Emilio Sánchez Vicario, John McEnroe, Peter Fleming, Boris Becker, Jim Courier, Heinz Gunthardt, Brad Gilbert and Peter Korda, among others.
11 BENI LINDER Benedikt (Beni) Linder, from Switzerland has been working as the physical head coach for the Swiss Tennis federation since Prior to this Beni worked as a freelance physical conditioning coach for different sports including Badminton, MotoGP, swimming, formuladrivers, and tennis among others. Beni studied at the University of Bern from 1995 to 2000 and graduated with a Master of Science in Sport. He also holds the highest diploma in training/coaching Swiss Olympic and Swiss Tennis. Beni s current responsibilities include the athletic development and performance of Swiss federation players, as well as overseeing coaches from 10 different partner Academies. He is also responsible for the physical coach s courses in collaboration with the Swiss Olympic Association. Personal interests include Sport, art and kids education. DR JIM LOEHR Dr. Jim Loehr is a world-renowned performance psychologist, Co-Founder of the Human Performance Institute, and author of 16 books including his most recent, The Only Way to Win. He also co-authored the national bestseller The Power of Full Engagement. Dr. Loehr s ground-breaking, science-based energy management training system has achieved worldwide recognition and has been chronicled in leading national publications including the Harvard Business Review, Business Week, Fortune, Newsweek, Time, US News and World Report, Success, Fast Company and Omni. He has appeared on NBC s Today Show, ABC s Nightline with Ted Koppel, The CBS Evening News with Dan Rather and CBS Morning News and the Oprah Winfrey Show.
12 JORGE LOZANO Jorge achieved a best ATP singles ranking of 51 and Doubles of 4, twice winning the Roland Garros mixed doubles in 1988 and At the US Open he was a doubles semifinalist in 1988 and won 9 ATP doubles tournaments (Rome, Stockholm, Athens, Rio de Janeiro, Boston, Casablanca, Stratton Mountain, New York, and Rotterdam). Jorge has been a Davis Cup player for Mexico for 15 years, between 1981 to 1995, and he is the current Mexican Davis Cup captain since DOUG MACCURDY players, system development and coaches education. Doug MacCurdy is a tennis development specialist. He is currently heading the Korean national junior team initiative. In recent years he has conducted extensive development initiatives in China, India, and Thailand in conjunction with the ITF, Olympic Solidarity and the host nation. The areas of work involve training top MacCurdy was director of USA Tennis Player Development from 1998 to In this capacity, he led the efforts of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) to develop competitive tennis players. Under his leadership the number of internationally ranked professional players increased dramatically, reversing a 30- year decline in the presence of American players in the world game. From 1984 through 1997, MacCurdy was director of development for the International Tennis Federation. He advised national associations, implemented development programs, educated coaches and trained players in over 160 countries. In 1995, MacCurdy was named general manager of the ITF while continuing to serve as director of development.
13 CARL MAES Carl is one of the most experienced and respected coaches of female tennis players in the world. He joined the Belgian Tennis Federation in 1992 working with both seniors and juniors ( Clijsters, Flipkens but also Vliegen and Malisse). Carl worked with former US Open champion Kim Clijsters from the age of 12 till 19 during which time Kim reached a Sony Ericsson WTA world ranking of No.3. He coached Clijsters again during the last 2 years of her career until she retired in the Us Open As Belgium s Fed Cup captain, he led his side to only their second ever final. He was formerly the LTA s Head of Women s Tennis where his role was to oversee and develop the junior and senior women s game in Britain. Carl has also been a WTA board member for two years as a Player Representative and is TV commentator for Belgian television. Carl is currently involved in 3 academies. His own academy MacTen in Ostend (Belgium), the Kim Clijsters Academy in Bree (Belgium) and the TEN4 Academy in Olso ( Norway) where he also operates as a consultant for the federation. PATRICK MCENROE Patrick McEnroe is the General Manager of USTA Player Development, a position he assumed in April In this role, McEnroe oversees all of USTA Player Development s operations including the USTA s national coaches and coaching program.since taking over USTA Player Development, McEnroe has established a cohesive, comprehensive strategic approach that best identifies, trains and develops future American world-class players, with an emphasis on inclusiveness and the development of players and coaches who excel on all surfaces and in all situations. McEnroe served as the U.S. Davis Cup captain from 2001 to 2010, making him the longest-serving captain in U.S. history. McEnroe is credited with bringing aboard a new crop of young talent including Andy Roddick, James Blake and the Bryan brothers when he assumed the captaincy, and he led that group to the Davis Cup championship in 2007.Overall, McEnroe captained the team to the semifinals or better on five occasions, and his 18 total victories as captain tie him with Tom Gorman for the most in U.S. Davis Cup history. He also coached the 2004 U.S. Olympic men s tennis team.
14 DAVE MILEY Dave is the ITF Executive Director of Tennis Development and is responsible for overseeing the juniors, veterans and wheelchair activities of the ITF as well as the ITF Development Programme. Since joining the ITF in 1991 he has visited over 150 countries advising National Associations, conducting coaches workshops and directing junior training programmes. Dave has been involved in the writing of many of the ITF s coach education publications including: the Advanced Coaches Manual; the ITF Schools Tennis Initiative Teachers Manual; and the ITF s Being a Better Tennis Parent. Dave has been a British LTA Level 3 Professional Coach since 1984, was Irish Men s Doubles Champion in 1984 and 1987 and is a former captain of the Irish National Men s Team. STUART MILLER Stuart Miller is the Director of Science & Technical of the ITF, where he has been since December 2012, having come to the ITF from Leeds Metropolitan University, where he was Course Leader of the BSc Sport and Exercise Science degree. Stuart obtained a BSc in Sports Science at Crewe + Alsager College, which he followed with an MSc in biomechanics from Salford University, and his PhD in neuromuscular biomechanics from Manchester Metropolitan University. Stuart was one of the first biomechanists in the UK to be fully accredited, and in 1997 became the Secretary General of the International Society of Biomechanics in Sports, the world s leading sports biomechanics society, and was elected as a Vice President of the organization in An active researcher, Stuart s expertise is in the field of sports science, and he regularly contributes scientific papers to national and international publications. A keen sportsman, Stuart played basketball in the English National League for Warrington. Stuart s responsibilities at the ITF include Sport Science & Medicine, Technical (equipment) and Anti-Doping.
15 JUDY MURRAY As a coach, Judy Murray was the Scottish national coach from 1995 to 2005, during which time she set up the first National Development School aimed at juniors aged Of the 20 players originally selected, 5 became full time players and played Davis and Fed Cups for Great Britain. 4 represented GB in the 2012 London Olympics. Of those 4-2 became Grand Slam champions, 1 became a Commonwealth gold medallist and the 4th was a top 50 WTA player. She is currently the Great Britain Fed Cup captain. Judy set up Set4Sport programme in 2011 which shows parents fun games to play at home with children to help them develop the physical skills that are the foundation for all sports. As a former player, she won 64 Scottish titles and represented GB in World Student Games in Judy also undertook a BA in French and Business Studies at Edinburgh University and has an Honorary Degree from Edinburgh University for services to tennis. She is also a Member of a government strategy group looking into issues surrounding the involvement of Women in Sport. MARY PIERCE Mary Pierce started playing tennis at the age of 10 and turned Pro at 14. Her best WTA ranking was No. 3 in singles and doubles, achieving 511 victories in Singles and 197 in Doubles. She won 2 Singles Grand Slams (French Open, Australian Open) and 2 Doubles Grand Slams (French Open and Wimbledon). Mary also won the Fed Cup two times with France in 1997 and Throughout her playing she has received many awards such as the WTA Most Improved Player in 1994, the WTA Comeback Player of the year in 1997 when she began the year 25th and finished 7th, and more recently she won the USTA FL Hall of Fame Award which rewards a player who has been, through her efforts, willingness, cooperation, and participation, most deserving of the respect and honour of all volunteers, either in play or organizational work for having made the greatest contribution to tennis in Florida during the past years.
16 JUAN PINO Juan Pino has been Davis Cup Team Captain for Cuba since Besides working with the national team, he trains and travels with Cuba s best junior players. He holds a Level 3 Coaches Certification, and completed a six week SO/ITF elite level training programme in Valencia, Spain. Juan played for the Cuban Davis Cup team for 12 years. His highest ranking as an ATP Tour player was 140. He is also a graduate in Physical Education and Sport Science. BABETTE PLUIM Babette Pluim is the doctor of the Royal Dutch Lawn Tennis Federation (KNLTB) and chairman of the Society of Tennis Medicine and Science (STMS). She is team doctor of the Dutch Davis Cup team and tournament doctor of ATP and WTA tournaments in s Hertogenbosch (Ordina Open) and Rotterdam (ABN-AMRO World Tennis Tournament). Pluim is member of the medical commission of the ITF, the medical commission wheelchair tennis of the ITF and the Health, Medical and Research Committee of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). She is editor in chief of Medicine and Science in Tennis and of Geneeskunde and Sport. In 1998 she promoted on research on the sport heart. Over the years Pluim has written several books, in collaboration with respected names in the field, on tennis, medicine and health.
17 GEOFF QUINLAN Geoff is the Tennis Australia s Manager of Coach Development. He previously managed Tennis Australia s National Academies. Geoff has completed the Tennis Australia High Performance Coaching Course (previously the Elite Coaches Course). He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Honours) in Human Movement and Sport Science with his Honours thesis a tennis specific study - A Comparison of Strength Training Methods for Tennis. He has previously run his own tennis coaching business in Melbourne; Tennis Time servicing all ages and levels of playing ability. Geoff is a former member of the Tennis Coaches Association of Victoria Board and Head Coach of tennis at Wesley College. LUCA SANTILLI Luca is the ITF Head of Juniors and Seniors Tennis since 2003 and is responsible for the ITF juniors and seniors activities world-wide including the coveted Junior Davis Cup and Junior Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Finals and Regional Qualifying events as well as the Youth Olympic Games Tennis event. Luca has many years tennis experience including 8 years working for the Italian Federation where he was in charge of Junior and Women s events. He was a Development Officer for the ITF and Tennis Europe for four years ( ) and in the course of his tennis career has travelled to some 70 countries. Luca holds the Level 3 Italian Coaching qualification.
18 FERNANDO SEGAL He has been the Director of the Mexican Tennis Federation since May He designs and implements the following programmes: Top performance, Training, Promotion, Applied Sciences, National Competition System, Development Programmes (National Centres, Regional Centres, Wheelchair and others). He is internationally known as a specialist in tennis development for the National and Regional Federations, clubs and world class players. He has written 11 books on different subjects about teaching, technique and tennis development. He has written over 160 technical articles. He has made more the 100 presentations in conferences and courses in the Federations of more than 40 nations. He designed and directed the National Development Programme for Argentina which changed all the player development structures, education and training programmes for teachers and coaches, promotion and organization programmes of the Argentine Tennis Association. These programmes are still being used. MERLIN VAN DE BRAAM Merlin is currently responsible for managing the ITF Tennis icoach -the official coaching website and professional development resource of the International Tennis Federation. He previously worked as the Assistant Research Officer within Coach Education and Development at the ITF. During this time, he held the position of Associate Editor of the ITF Coaching and Sport Science Review journal-the ITF s global sport science and tennis publication. Merlin holds a Master s Degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology with distinction from Loughborough University, a Bachelor s degree in Psychology and has written and published articles on mental imagery in tennis and continuous professional development in sport. Merlin has eight years coaching experience including both development and performance coaching in the Republic of Ireland, the UK and Greece. In 2012 was the assistant coach for the ITF International Touring Team, at the Lawn Tennis Championships, Wimbledon, and ITF grade A tour events.
19 MAX DE VYLDER Max is the Research & Development manager for the LTA. Having a masters degree in physical education and sport science he was involved in writing and delivering applied biomechanics and motor learning in the Belgian coach education, as well as teaching tactics and technique in the different levels of tennis coaching courses. He also worked as coach for the Belgian tennis federation and has extensive experience in working with promising junior players. Max worked on the implementation of an extensive Talent ID programme and the training of the LTA coaches on the quality of a 10&U performance programme. He also developed a performance analysis programme for the players in the National Tennis Centre. HRVOJE ZMAJIC (ITF) Hrvoje graduated from the Faculty of Physical Education, University of Zagreb, as a Professor of Physical Education. The same year he completed his coaching training by Faculty of Physical Education in Zagreb, where he was certified with the degree of Tennis Trainer. He is also a tennis trainer B by the German Tennis Federation. He obtained a Master degree at the Faculty of Physical Education, University of Zagreb. Since 1994, he has been writing articles published in Croatian Tennis review, ITF Coaches Review and has written several manuals for education of tennis coaches at different levels in Croatia. He has worked for the Croatian Tennis Association and at the tennis coach school founded at the Faculty of Physical Education, University of Zagreb. Furthermore, he has worked closely with Croatian Fed-cup captain Mr. Vjeran Frišcic. He has been the Croatian team captain for juniors under 14, and also a member of the Croatian Tennis Association Sports Committee. He worked previously for the ITF as a travelling coach for Under14 boys and girls and in 2002, Hrvoje became responsible for coaches education (tennis) at the Croatian Olympic Committee. In 2003 he became ITF/Tennis Europe Development Officer for Europe.
