Rail Industry Worker Card The Rail Industry Worker program is owned and endorsed by the Australasian Railway Association (ARA) on behalf of its members to provide a single national competency management system for those working in rail. As of 01 July 2013 all contractors identified in Metro s competency matrices, located on the Metro Academy website ( who intend carrying out rail safety work for Metro, or on behalf of Metro s contractors, needs to possess a RIW Card. A valid Rail Industry Worker Card is now a required prerequisite for all Metro Academy Rail Infrastructure courses. 7 7 Train Track Safety Awareness This course is the minimum requirement for employees who work within the rail corridor. Tickets have a life of 2 years, or the individual s medical, whichever is the lesser. The session includes a practical component, which allows participants to visit the rail network. The Metro Safety & Environmental Induction is also included. This course is aligned to the following nationally accredited unit of competence: TLIF2080B Safely access the rail corridor. Students who successfully complete all requirements of this course will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for the unit listed above. 1 day Courses are scheduled daily and are delivered at Flinders Street Station and E Gate. Metro Academy can also provide TTSA training on site for large groups. Category 3 Medical Participants must have current employment with an organisation that is authorised to interface with the Metro Trains rail network. $200 per person Minimum 8 persons for a group booking (a discount may be available for high volume bookings). 8 8 Handsignaller This course will provide information on how to fulfil the role of a Handsignaller and Lookout. This course will also provide the necessary prerequisite knowledge for individuals wishing to progress further and become a Track Force Protection Coordinator. This course is aligned to the following nationally accredited units of competence: TLIF2080B Safely access the rail corridor TLIF2081A Perform lookout duties TLIF2082A Perform handsignaller duties Students who successfully complete all requirements of this course will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for the units listed above. This course must be undertaken by anyone performing the duties of a Handsignaller and Lookout. 2 days TTSA & Category 1 Medical Participants must have current employment with an organisation that is authorised to interface with the Metro Trains rail network. $450 per person P:

9 9 Lookout This course will provide information on how to fulfil the role of a Lookout. This course is aligned to the following nationally accredited unit of competence: TLIF2081A Perform lookout duties Students who successfully complete all requirements of this course will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for the unit listed above. This course must be undertaken by anyone performing the duties of a Lookout. ½ day TTSA & Category 2 Medical Participants must have current employment with an organisation that is authorised to interface with the Metro Trains rail network. $250 per person P:

10 10 Track Force Protection Coordinator Level 3.1 This course will provide information on how to implement lookout protection; including how to conduct a track protection assessment, plan, document and apply lookout protection and receive a Permit to Foul the Line. This course must be undertaken by a Track Force Protection Coordinator taking out Lookout Protection. Lookout & Category 1 Medical Participants must have current employment with an organisation that is authorised to interface with the Metro Trains rail network. $460 per person P: days

11 11 Track Force Protection Coordinator Level 3.2 and Level 3.3 This course must be undertaken by a Track Force Protection Coordinator taking out Track Force Protection and Absolute Occupations. Although the theory is common to both roles, the in-field assessment component is different. Those implementing Track Force Protection will be required to demonstrate their knowledge in being a Permit to Foul the Line recipient, whereas those implementing Absolute Occupations will be required to demonstrate their knowledge on managing the Master Permit to Foul the Line system. This course must be undertaken by Track Force Protection Coordinators taking out Track Force Protection and Absolute Occupations. Although the theory is common to both roles, the in-field assessment component is different. 5 days Handsignaller, Track Force Protection Coordinator Level 3.1 & Category 1 Medical Participants must have current employment with an organisation that is authorised to interface with the Metro Trains rail network. $1200 per person P:

12 12 Track Vehicle Operator 1 This course will instruct the Track Vehicle Operator in how to safely operate a Track Vehicle or Track Machine fitted rail guidance wheels within a worksite under protection. The course will also provide the operator with the knowledge in how to care for and maintain the Track Vehicle, implement the procedures required to remove a disabled vehicle from the running line, conduct a Hazard Analysis to determine the safe operation of the Track Vehicle, identify basic fixed signals and provide vehicle security. Additional specific vehicle operator s courses may be required for specific vehicles. This course must be undertaken by any individual required to operate a Road/Rail Vehicle or Track Machine within a restricted environment, i.e. within a worksite protected by a method of safeworking. 1 day TTSA & Category 1 Medical $253 per person P:

13 13 Track Vehicle Operator 2 This course will build on information provided in TVO 1 and will cover the Track Permission System to enable the Operator of a Road/Rail Vehicle or Track Machine to travel into and out of a protected worksite. This course must be undertaken by any individual required to operate a Road/Rail Vehicle and/or Track Machine in an unrestricted environment, i.e. between locations on a running line. This training is typically used for hi-rail operators of Track Machines running on an S Circular through the rail network. To be advised TVO 1 & Category 1 Medical $TBA per person P:

14 14 Rail Infrastructure Fundamentals This course provides participants with the fundamentals of working on track, within the rail corridor. The training contains the units of competence needed to fulfill the requirements of the Rail Safety Worker Competence Card which is a recognised benchmark within the industry. Metro Academy can tailor the content and delivery of this course to suit your staff s needs. A reduction in units delivered will subsequently reduce course duration and cost. This course is aligned to the following nationally accredited units of competence: TLID1001A Shift materials safely using manual handling equipment TLIB1028B Maintain and use hand tools TLIF1001A Follow OHS procedures TLIE1003A Participate in basic workplace communications TLIF2010A Apply fatigue management strategies TLIU2008A Apply environmental procedures to rail infrastructure TLIW2001A Operate under track protection rules TLIF2062A Apply awareness of safe working rules and regulations CPCCOHS1001A Work safely in the construction industry Students who successfully complete all requirements of this course will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for the units listed above, by arrangement with an external Registered Training Organisation. 15 15 Construction Induction (White Card) All persons working on construction sites in Victoria require a Construction Induction Card to prove they have completed basic, industry-wide Occupational Health and Safety induction training. This course is aligned to the following nationally accredited unit of competence: CPCCOHS1001A Work safely in the construction industry Students who successfully complete all requirements of this course will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for the unit listed above, by arrangement with an external Registered Training Organisation. Staff working on a rail construction site 1 day Nil $300 per person P:

16 16 Drug & Alcohol Assessor Training Training required to be authorised by TSV as an Assessing Officer. An Officers role is to recognise indicators of drug or alcohol abuse and carry out preliminary breath tests. Nominated Assessing Officers 1 day Nil $330 per person (GST inclusive) P:

17 17 Occupational Health & Safety for Managers and Supervisors (3 Day) This training will supply the basic information and skills required by managers and supervisors to understand: Managers and Supervisors (primarily operational or maintenance based) the key elements of the OH&S Act; responsibilities under the Act; the when, where and how of consultation; how to manage hazards and the associated risks, and their role in the activity; accurately discern root causes of incidents and recommend corrective and remedial actions; employee training and competence requirements and their role in implementation; managing contractors; injury management including rehabilitation and return to work; and emergency response roles and responsibilities for managers and supervisors. 3 days Nil $935 per person (GST inclusive) P:

18 18 Leadership and Workplace Relationships This one day course is designed to provide the fundamentals of leadership. Topics covered in Leadership and Workplace Relationships include: providing constructive feedback; identifying bullying and harassment; managing conflict; attributes of leaders; and professional behaviours. Supervisory/Management positions 1 day Nil $330 per person (GST inclusive) P:

19 19 Project Management Fundamentals An introductory level course to provide an overview of the basic fundamentals of Project Management Fundamentals. Topics covered in Project Management Fundamentals include: Supervisory/Management positions 1 day the key principles of project management; defining the project; developing a project plan; administration & monitoring; and finalising project and review. Nil $330 per person (GST inclusive) P:

20 20 Presentation Skills This training applies to supervisors/ managers who may be expected to make presentations for a range of purposes. Topics covered in Presentation Skills include how to prepare, deliver and review a presentation to a targeted audience. Supervisory/Management positions 1 day Nil $330 per person (GST inclusive) P:

21 21 Bullying and Harassment for Employees Online This online training provides participants knowledge in Bullying and Harassment. Key topics covered, include: the effects of bullying and harassment in the workplace; the types of behaviour that are considered bullying and harassment; how to identify bullying and harassment; your responsibilities; and what to do if you or your co-workers are being bullied or harassed. All staff 60 minutes Nil $60 per person (GST inclusive) P:

22 22 Bullying and Harassment for Managers and Supervisors Online This online training provides participants knowledge in Bullying and Harassment. Key topics covered, include: the effects of bullying and harassment in the workplace; the types of behaviour that are considered bullying and harassment; the responsibilities of managers and supervisors; how to identify bullying and harassment; how to prevent and manage bullying and harassment using a risk management approach; and how to handle incidents or reports of bullying or harassment. Managers and Supervisors 45 minutes Nil $60 per person (GST inclusive) P:

23 23 Facilitating Change This training will provide skills and knowledge in the principles and application of Change Management Methodology. At the completion of the course, participants will have the ability to demonstrate the following training outcomes: understand the concept of change and change management (What is change? What is change management? Why is it important? What role do we all play in leading change effectively?); ability to identify and understand the change curve ; interpret and apply the Change Acceleration Process (CAP) tools within their contextualised working environment; identify, understand and recognise leaders and those affected by change that are in the change curve stages; ability to recognise the speed and intensity of individuals within the change curve, and, capability to develop strategies to assist in the acceleration of this progress; application of potential solution(s), utilising the Change Agent Toolkit, including optimal use of selected tools; capability to build and foster change resilience; a heightened sense of influencing and communication skills the ability to facilitate change discussions techniques to deliver effective change, without compromising the Metro Values and building flex in their style when dealing with executives all the way through to the field. 24 24 Specification Writing This training will provide participants with an enhanced understanding of how to write detailed, explicit, specifications. The course will cover the following topics: defining specifications business need type of specifications specification requirements preparing specifications structure and content readability/interpretation/ambiguity hints and tips Staff carrying out roles that require them to write a Scope of Works and Specifications 1 day Nil $330 (GST Inclusive) P:

25 25 Manual Handling This training provides an understanding of the mechanisms of the back and the principles of safe manual handing techniques. The session incorporates the fundamentals of manual handling through facilitated discussion, scenario based examples and practical demonstration and interactivity. Staff whose roles expose them to manual handling tasks (workplace or office based) ½ day Nil $200 per person (GST Inclusive) P:

26 26 Terms and Conditions Payment If applicable, the Student warrants that they have been authorised by the Company to complete this Course Booking Form. Organisations can be invoiced on presentation of purchase order or letter of authority. Invoices are to be paid in full within 30 days of invoice or prior to issuing of results whichever has been arranged. If the Student or a duly authorised Company representative completing this Course Booking Form has requested Language, Literacy or numeracy assistance MTM will charge the Company and the Company agrees to pay to MTM a fee for additional LLN support that will be determined, at MTM s absolute discretion, based on participant numbers for the relevant course session; MTM reserves, at its absolute discretion, the right to administer a challenge test at any time during the relevant course session to the Student and the Student must sit the challenge test without assistance including, but not limited to, LLN assistance. If the Student refuses to take or fails the challenge test then: the Student must remove him/herself from the course session and re-book a subsequent session nominating a yes to LLN Assistance the Company agrees to forfeit and will not seek a refund of the full course fee that the Company must pay MTM upon enrolment to the course session prior to commencement. Cancellations Cancellations notified less than 5 full working days prior to the course commencement date will incur a cancellation fee equal to 25% of the full course fee. Cancellations notified less than 48 hours prior to the course commencement date will incur a cancellation fee equal to 50% of the full course fee. Cancellations notified on the day of course commencement will incur the full course fee cost. No refunds will be issued after course has commenced. General In courses where prerequisites do not apply, a substitute may be sent if the original Student is unable to attend. MTM must be notified of this prior to course commencement. No refunds will be issued for non-attendance. Fee for reassessments will be charged at $ per hour. Certificate re-printing charged at $20 per certificate. Statements of Attainment will be issued for Units successfully completed at time of withdrawal, cancellation or transfer, provided that fees have been paid in full for the Units shown on the Statement of Attainment. Metro Trains Melbourne reserves the right to cancel any course that does not have the required enrolment numbers or in the event of exceptional circumstances. A full refund or alternative courses will be offered in these circumstances.
