How to setup camera with NAS V This article describes how to set up a Phylink camera with your NAS driver. Once your camera is authorized to access the NAS, it will be able to record its snapshots and vedios to NAS drive. 1. Overview Phylink cameras can record directly to a NAS (Network Attached Storage) drive. You could configure several cameras to write to the same NAS drive. All Phylink cameras currently offered for sale are compatible with most standard NAS drives. It doesn't have to be a special or expensive NAS drive. We have tested the below NAS model sucessfully with our cameras: - QNAP TS Synology BeyondCloud - Synology DiskStation DS112J - Synology DS Synology DiskStation DS Buffalo Link Station Lite (LS-L320GL) - Apple Time Capsule - WD My Cloud Phylink brand does not be listed in any NAS Manager software (e.g. Surveillance Station) as a compatible vendor. But this does not matter. You can set it up on the camera to get it work.it's very simple. You only need to set up very little information on the camera, and then the camera can work with your NAS. Below are the benefits with this method. 1. You can access the camera from browser remotely to playback or download the recoded files on NAS. 2. You can view the recorded files on NAS remotely using mobile App. 2. Connect your NAS to Phylink Camera 2.1 Step1 Check your Hardware connection Connect the Phylink camera to the same local network as your PC and NAS, and power it on. That means your NAS, computer and your camera should be connected a same router at your home or office. For most routers, DHCP are default setting on to assign local IP address the network camera. The IP address of first 3 fields should be same with your router's. ( e.g. Your router's IP address is , and your camera's could be ) If not, you have to set a static IP address for your camera. You can find out your camera's IP address or set a static IP address for it by using Phylink Camera Live. 2.2 Step2 Create a shared folders on NAS Create a folder in the root of your NAS drive for your recording files to be saved to. The camera only saves to folders one directory deep from the root of the NAS drive. Please note that the folder name cannot contain spaces and other special characters. You can use underscores instead of blank spaces in folder name.
Ideally, create a new user in the NAS drive settings just for your camera to access the drive. When creating the user, give it access to the directory you have just created, and make sure it has Read and Write access to it. If your NAS drive doesn't allow you to create new users, or you don't want to, just remember your admin username and password. 2.3 Step3 Find out your NAS drive IP address Find out your NAS drive IP address and and take note of it. This can be found within your NAS settings or by using the assistant tools that came with the drive. For example, you can use QNAP Qfinder or Synology Assistant to check the IP address of the NAS. 2.4 Step4 Configure camera to access NAS Next step is to get your Phylink camera talking to your NAS. To start this process you will need to access your camera's Settings page, and then access the Storage menu (located on the right of the Settings screen) and then Storage Setup. Now you need to enter your settings within this menu, let's do it step by step: a. [Storage ] Click the Radio Button to enable the storage and then click the Radio Button on "Store to" to select the NAS instead of SD Card. b. [NAS remote path] This is where you specify the IP address of your NAS drive and also the folder you want the files saved in. Enter your NAS drives IP address (found in Step 3). You should put two forward slashes before the IP address this is a networking command that gets the camera to access your network. Don t enter or www in this box, just the two forward slashes and the IP. Follow this IP address with a directory name the directory already needs to exist on the NAS drive for the camera to save files to it. - The Phylink camera only accepts one level of directory. So your address should look like i.e. // /Camera. - Please note that the folder name cannot contain spaces or special characters. - You can use underscores instead of blank spaces in folder name.
c. [Authorization] Your NAS drive may need a username and password to access it if this is the case, select Yes, and then enter the details below. d. [User name & Password] Type the user name and password of the NAS Drive. This field is required if your NAS Drive requires authentication. - Make sure the user has Read and Write access to the share folder you type in NAS remote path. - Please note that the user name cannot contain spaces or special characters. - Your password case-sensitive. Please make sure you type it in correctly. e. [Store directory] This is the folder that snapshots or videos will be saved to. Camera will create a folder with this name under the shared folders you have create in step 2. f. [Max Space] Storage capacity the camera will use on the chosen storage. g. [Max files] The maximum number of files for all the videos can be recorded before overwriting. Please click "Apply" to confirm your settings. Your camera and NAS should now be connected. To check if the camera has connected the NAS, please browse to Setting > System. At the system information page you can find the info and status of NAS. 3. Confiture recording task in Task Management After your camera has connect to NAS successfully, you need to tell it when you want it to record, either continuously, on alarm (when motion is detected) or at intervals. These options can be accessed within your camera settings under the Task Management Menu. Login the web interface of the camera and browse to Setting > TASK > Task Management.
Click the task name to configure recording task Check the box to enable the task. To configure the task for recording you can go to the task configurations page by clicking the task name on Task Management page. 3.1 Snapshot to Storage on Alarm The camera refers to motion detection as an alarm. You can select what you want the camera to do once the motion is detected. You can use motion detection to initiate the snapshots to NAS (Snapshot to storage on Alarm) or at regular time intervals (Snapshot to Storage Periodically) to take snapshots and store them to NAS. Click the task name in the Task field to go to the task configurations page as shown below. [Snapshot from] Select snapshot stream source. [Snapshot duration] The number of seconds that the camera should keep sending images after motion stops. [Snapshot frame rate] The number of frames per seconds that the camera should keep sending images at when an alarm is triggered. [Alarm interval] This is the number of seconds for which the camera should stop sending alerts after the first set. Setting the time to 0 disables this feature. 3.2 Snapshot to Storage Periodically Instead of using motion detection in Snapshot to Storage on Alarm, you can also use the Snapshot to Storage Periodically task to record the snapshot at regular time intervals.
[Period interval] Time interval between snapshots. [Snapshot from] Select snapshot stream source. [Snapshot frame rate] The number of frames per seconds that the camera should keep sending images at when an alarm is triggered. 3.3 Record to Storage on Alarm [Record from] Select the stream from which it should record. [Record duration] The number of seconds that the camera should keep recording video after motion stops. If there is any motion within this time the camera will keep recording until there is no motion for the duration of this parameter. It can be from 5 seconds to 24 hours. [Split duration] This specifies the maximum duration of one file. If the recording goes on for longer than this parameter the camera will split the video into a number of files [Record thumbnail] Enable or disable thumbnail. 3.4 Record to Storage Continuously [Record from] Select the stream from which it should record. [Split duration] This specifies the maximum duration of one file. If the recording goes on for longer than this parameter the camera will split the video into a number of files. [Record thumbnail] Enable or disable thumbnail.
4. Access the recorded files on NAS drive There are several ways you can access the recorded files on NAS drive. 1. You can browser the NAS folders using manage tools come with the NAS driver. 2. You can access the camera from browser remotely to playback or download the recoded files on NAS. Login the web server of camera and browse to Setting > Storage > Browse Storage. There are four directories for different recording task. Click directory link to go to files manage page. Click "Play" to playback the video online. You can also download or delete the recoded files. You do not need to delete the movies manually. You can set a max number of files to store and then it automatically deletes the oldest files. You can do continuous recording and the camera will simply overwrite the oldest files as necessary. 3. You can view the recorded files on NAS remotely by using Smartphone App.
