1 FAQs Hills Professional Series NVRs and Cameras (V1.1) 1. What is the default NVR resolution? By Default NVR video output resolution is 1080P. Resolution may be changed if necessary to suit the attached monitor: Go to Configuration General General Resolution 2. What is the default NVR/camera user name and password? NVR and cameras are shipped with the same username and password: Username: admin Password: admin For security reasons, it is important to change this password as soon as possible. [or whenever the recommended stage is] 3. What is the default IP address of NVR and Camera? By default, DHCP client is enabled on NVR and Cameras. If there is no DHCP server in the network, NVR and cameras can be accessed using their factory IP addresses: NVR Static IP address: ; Subnet Mask: Camera Static IP address: ; Subnet Mask: By default Hills NVR will assign an IP address to all Hills Cameras using Hills Protocol. Default Camera IP address range: xxx; Subnet Mask: What is DHCP? How does Hills NVRs and cameras make setting up easy? DHCP allows devices to join an IP-based network without having pre-configured IP addresses. DHCP is a protocol that assigns unique IP addresses to devices, then releases and renews these addresses as devices leave and re-join the network. Hills NVRs and IP cameras are shipped with DHCP enabled. When using only the Hills Professional CCTV product range, setup of NVR and IP cameras is plug-and-play. 5. How does Hills Auto-Config work? When a Hills NVR is connected to the internet, it will register with Hills Auto-Config server. Customers can set up a Hills Auto-Config account using the Hills Video Security CCTV App on their smart devices and link the NVR with the account via a QR code process. An verification will be sent to the registered address for confirmation of ownership. Once verification is successful, customers will be able to see the

2 NVR-connected cameras. 6. How is firmware upgrade done on Hills NVR? On Hills IP cameras? If the NVR is connected to the internet, the firmware upgrade can be done from Hills Server. Go to Maintainance Upgrade Hills Server Otherwise, a copy of the latest firmware can be loaded using a USB memory stick. (See your Hills Account manager or Hills Tech Support for the latest version of firmware.) Insert the memory stick into one of the USB sockets on the NVR and go to Maintenance Upgrade Local Upgrade Press Refresh to bring up the contents of the memory stick. Select the firmware file and then click the Upgrade button. 7. How do the LAN port and PoE switch work in the NVR? The LAN port in the NVR is used to connected to the external network to access NVR via Web browser, PC Client Software, Discovery tool and Apps PoE switch ports are isolated from the LAN port. 8. How to set up the NVR to view over internet? Port mapping must be configured on the router to allow access to the NVR. However, a simpler way is to enable the UPNP function in both the NVR and the router. Port mapping is then automatically managed by the two devices. Once configured, the NVR can be viewed using either a browser or the HVS PC client software. The NVR can be viewed by connecting to the public IP address of the router. (The Public IP address is assigned by the ISP) 9. I can view the camera image on the NVR direct monitor connection, however, when I use a web browser I cannot see the camera image? Ensure Enable Stream Encryption is un-ticked. Enable Stream Encryption is under: Configuration Network Extranet Access 10. What ports numbers does Hills NVR use? 3 11. How to factory reset NVR? NVR doesn t have hardware reset button. You can factory reset via direct Monitor connection, via web browser or using PC client software. 12. Forgot NVR /Camera password and can t access devices, how do I reset the password? Please contact Hills Tech Support How can I configure/ change camera settings? Only basic camera features may be changed via Hills NVR. Connect the computer and the IP camera which needs configuration to the same PoE switch (it is also possible to use the PoE ports of the NVR as a temporary PoE switch and connect both the IP camera and computer to it, but you will need to change IP address of your laptop manually). 14. Does the camera support local storage (SD card)? Only the mini-dome model # NVC-MD1 supports local storage. 15. Is there a Third party camera compatibility list? See Camera compatibility list in download section. 16. How to connect third party cameras? Make sure the camera is in the camera compatibility list. First assign a Static IP address to the IP camera in the range xxx and subnet mask: and gateway address: Now discover the camera using suitable protocol. For more information check NVR user manual. 17. Can I add extra hard drive/s to my NVR? The 3 models of Hills NVRs come with a 3TB SATA hard drive. If more storage is required customers can add 1x HDD to the 8 Channel model (NVR-CH8) and 3x HDD to the 16 channel model (NVR-CH16). Maximum HDD capacity is 4TB. Only basic camera features may be changed via Hills NVR.

4 20. How to extract recorded footage to USB and what is the video format?
