14 LOMBARDY Real Estate REPORT INDUSTRIAL real estate market Industrial Key Sectors Mechatronics Lighting & IT Chemicals & Pharmaceutical Creative industry ( fashion & design ) Rubber and Plastic Bergamo produces 4% of Italian exports (12% of exports from Lombardy) and in the last few years the main export destinations were Europe (two-thirds), North America (close to 10%) and China. Industry is very competitive and export-oriented. Machinery and chemicals are the main sectors, followed by more traditional Italian industries. Bergamo's economic prosperity is highlighted by the average per capita income, which is 14% higher than the EU average. Unemployment is minimal. Bergamo is a pivotal interchange on transport routes between Lombardy and the Veneto region. Well connected to Milan by the A4 (Milan -Venice) motorway and by rail, Bergamo is also linked to European countries and markets through its Orio al Serio international airport, one of the top three in Lombardy.
