1 Primary MFL Nine Lesson Starts Playground Games - ref QCA Unit Jeux et Chansons Synopsis: 1 In the playground, a large group of children are playing while some are standing singing Frère Jacques. Thea, Camille, Corentin and Niels stand at the back of the choir, looking bored. Thea finds some chalk and signals the others to join her for hopscotch. They chalk the numbers in the French style, saying them (and correcting each other) as they do so. The grid has Terre [Earth] at the beginning by Number 1 and Ciel [Heaven] at the end. They start playing hopscotch, taking it in turns and calling out the numbers. : Pouvez-vous écrire de..un à dix...en français? Can you write from 1 to 10 in French? In the playground Theo, Camille, Enzo and Sacha are standing in a circle use a dipping rhyme to choose someone to be it. The pun is in the rhyme: Sept oies becomes c est toi!. Camille suggests they play Un, deux, trois, Soleil. Sacha stands with her back to the others. She counts Un, deux, trois and on the next word, Soleil, she quickly turns round to catch out anyone who is still moving. : Pouvez-vous chanter une chanson française? Can you sing a French song? On the field, a coach is limbering up and blows his whistle to try and get the group of children to listen to him. They are in a huddle, discussing what to play. There is some heated discussion about whether it should be football or skipping...corentin likes football but Margot says Je déteste le foot. Margot and Ivana go off to play skipping, counting together, whilst the rest prepare for a game of football. Yoann and Kevin pick their teams from the numbers on their shirts. As the match heats up, with vain efforts from the coach to control it, Margot and Ivana come to watch and cheer from the touchline... Allez les verts! Qu est-ce que tu préfères...le foot ou la corde à sauter? What do you like best football or skipping?

3 Let s go swimming ref QCA Unit 7 On y va Synopsis: 1 Nicolas sends an e mail to Inès asking if she would like to go for a swim on Thursday. Inès, reading in her bedroom, is pleased to receive the invitation and goes off to ask her Mum, who is reading the newspaper, what the weather is going to be like on Thursday., because she is going swimming. They discuss how she is getting to the pool. Et vous..préférez-vous voyager à vélo ou en autobus? And you...do you like going on your bike or travelling on the bus? It s Thursday and Inès leaves the house on her bike, commenting on the weather. Meanwhile Nicolas.is walking through town to the swimming pool. After stopping to check some road signs, Inès arrives at the pool and sits down to wait. After the hot bike ride she has taken off the hat, scarf and gloves but is now beginning to feel the cold. Quel temps fait-il aujourd hui? Il fait froid ou il fait chaud? What s the weather like today? Is it cold or warm? Inès waits at the pool for Nicolas. being too cold, she starts to gether up her discarded clothes. Eventually Nicolas appears and they discuss how they got to the pool. Then they approach the door, reading out the timetable on it - only to find that the pool is closed on Thursdays. A quelle heure ouvre la piscine le lundi? What time does the pool open on Mondays? Focus: weather days of the week transport je vais, tu vas asking questions

Children make up their own question about the clip Children devise different role plays using the clip as a starting point e.g. change the location, the days, the weather and the travel. LLS Access infromation sources KAL recognise that texts in different languages will often have the same conventions of style and layout Identify a French text or web weather forecast. Try to work out the forecast using learned vocabulary and symbols. identify a French travel timetable and answer questions in English about services on different days of the week [links to Numeracy] L4.4 Write simple words and phrases LLS Use a dictionary to look up spellings Create a class display for date and weather IU4. Know about some aspects of everyday life and compare them to their own Using talk partners and then reporting back to whole class, discuss the similarities and differences seen in the clip, e.g. transport, weather, street scene house features, driving on the right, road names, shops, signposts. IU4.4 Learn about ways of travelling to the country LLS Access information sources Learn some other modes of transport. Plan a journey in France using a simple writing frame, focussing on days of the week, je vais and travel mode, using brochures and websites. O4.1. Memorise and present a short spoken text LLS Read and memorise words; use mental associations to help remember words Role play the TV weather forecast and film it to evaluate 4
5 Pocket Money ref. QCA Unit 8 L argent de poche Synopsis: 1 Corentin is showing off his toys to Noë, who is impressed and going round teh bedroom picking up various small toys like dinosaurs. Then Corentin indicates a large trunk, which seems to glow magically inside a games console!, Noë. wants to know how much it costs and is dismayed to find out that it is 5. Pouvez-vous compter jusqu à trente-cinq en français? Can you count up to thirty-five in French? Noë is shown counting out his money in front of his father he hasn t enough and asks his father for extra...but Dad complains that he can t have everything he would like, such as a Porsche. Noë, disappointed, is out in the garden on the swing when his Dad thinks of helping out by paying him to wash his car. Noë.makes a good job of it and his father is pleased, saying that it is now like a Porsche! He gives Noë 5 pocket money and 10 for the car-washing. Combien d'argent de poche vous donne-t-on?? How much pocket money do you get? At the supermarket Noë and Corentinlook for the consoles and count out the money up to 7. Noë spots something else to buy for the extra. They go through the check out and say goodbye to each other. Noë.returns to the house and proudly shows his father the console, as well as presenting him with a small box the model Porsche car that he bought! Tu as vingt-cinq Euros!
