2 The Office Design Subcmmittee was charged with the task f prviding the Facilities Cmmittee with the design templates fr seven types f ffice space: Full Time Faculty Cunselrs Adjunct Faculty Divisin Dean and Administratin Divisin Wrk Rms Meeting and Cnference Rms Typical Wrkstatins The fllwing descriptins utline the minimum requirements fr the physical, functinal, and technlgical necessities f mdern and efficient private, semi-private, and pen ffice envirnments. 3 General Cncerns and Cmments fr all Office Spaces After reviewing the ffices currently in use thrughut Chabt Cllege and lking at size and cncerns stated frm ther campuses in Califrnia and the United States, the design subcmmittee fr ffices is prpsing the fllwing requirements r templates be used as a guideline fr ffice space design and implementatin, cllege wide. Fllwing discussins with faculty, staff, and administratin, we have determined that the current ffice size is inadequate fr the specified needs. Current faculty ffices range frm 65 t 80 sq. ft. in size, nt including thse used fr music, which riginally needed rm fr a pian. The prpsed guidelines reflect the clearances required fr the effective utilizatin f Furniture and Equipment within each space. The desired usable square ftage is 100 feet. Additinal width r depth within the spaces wuld be acceptable, particularly in the Divisin Office applicatins. Shuld a prject architect find that they can nt prvide ne f these minimum requirements, all variatins must be presented t the Facilities Cmmittee fr develpment f a revised apprval. These variatins are t be prject specific, rather than whlesale acrss the Design Guidelines dcument. The sub-cmmittee acknwledges with these Design Guidelines that structural details, such as clumns, and architectural details, such as windws, may impact the final layut ptins available t the end user in specific ffices. Each cnfiguratin ffered allws fr a minimum f tw ptins after these issues have been taken int cnsideratin. In additin, wall munted verhead cabinets have been intentinal mitted frm the standards ffering fr Faculty and Cunselr s Offices. N backing will be required within these spaces. Please nte that verhead cabinets (Grup 2) are a part f the Divisin Office requirements, and may require backing. In rder t effectively supprt the layuts and requirements f these spaces, the design subcmmittee requests that the architect specify that all light switches, thermstats r wall munted equipment be placed within the ADA zne (within 60 inches inside an ffice with an inward pening dr, r within 18 f the strike side f a dr). 3

See Faculty Optins 1, 2 & 3 fr desired minimum clear dimensins. Building Infrastructure (Grup 1 details): Windw with screens and mini-blinds r rller shades fr cverings Dr with either side light r view windw (2) fur-plex pwer utlets (ne each n ppsite walls). See Faculty Optins 1 thrugh 3 fr placement.
